What's that based on? Not a dig, I just genuinely don't know much about your squad.
All subjective innit but I reckon we've got one of the best young managers in the football league, a goal scorer, tight defence with some genuinely dangerous attacking players. We are one of the fittest sides around ( see the amount of late goals we scored) and have a great team spirit. We have some money to spend ( how much is being constantly argued about )and we do need to spend because we are lacking a bit of creativity in midfield and cover at the back. A new goalkeeper might be a idea too. Overall though after watching a fair bit of league 1 I'm confident we can strongly compete in this league.
A lot of people will disagree with me and that's fine. They did last season too :cool1:

That's all fine, but I question how much of last season's success was down to momentum and mental attitude rather than quality. You might find that once you've been spanked a couple of times, confidence drains away quite quickly. I don't think you'll be in trouble with the bottom 4, but I can't see you troubling the play-offs.

As I said, it's subjective. Good luck for the season.

It could go one of two ways for us.

We could sell Grant and have an absolute nightmare of a season where all our new imports struggle to get to grips with league one and we get relegated by Christmas.

or...

We'll be absolutely brilliant and blow everyone away.

I don't think there's anything in between.

On last night's friendly, we look to have signed players with real technical ability and in Tavares I think we'll have one of the leagues best midfielders. As usual with us, it's a case of will we keep enough clean sheets (not sure about the new defenders just yet) and will we score enough (not sure we have a 20+ goalscorer). The real acid test will be when the weather gets worse and some of the new lads have to really grind out results.

Hopefully we'll turn some of our possession into chances and goals come the start of the season. Like I say, we're a complete unknown but from the preseason games so far, I'm hopeful that we won't be troubling relegation.

We seem to be tipped for relegation every year, in spite of the fact that we're nowhere near the smallest team and have a mid to upper table budget and had about 2 months since we've been back in league one where we've even looked close to the relegation spots. The trouble is, a myth has been perpetuated that we are cash strapped and have no money, so this in essence is how people decide on us. The Rochdale & Burton chairmen for instance pointed out that they could get nowhere near the wages we were offering to players. I'm just perplexed as to how bookies and opposition fans always tip us to struggle when we rarely do?

The Cash Strapped theory... Smurf bleated about it to get Page out then once he walked whipped it back up to 2.5 million or whatever with a back up plan if failing to work by Xmas (which I assume involves even more investment).

Heard positive things about us last night, especially Tavares and De Freitas so we will see. I imagine we will be one of the technically best teams and dominate possession etc but as you say can we convert chances (although I fancy JJ Hooper to be a surprise package this season) and will these boys do it on a cold Tuesday in Stoke!

Don't think we will go down but not worried by the bookies or other fans predictions as we have this every year and have been relegated twice in 25 years!

Will we challenge at the top... haven't a clue.

I am going into this season with optimism and I can't wait to see how we do. We have a better squad this time than we did the last time we got promoted into League One back in 2007, so I feel there is every reason for us to be confident.

Darrell Clarke and this group of players have restored the pride in Bristol Rovers over the last couple of years and they've given Gasheads the belief that anything is possible. That's not to say any of us a truly expecting a promotion push or an assault on the play-offs, but we are 100% aiming upwards rather than looking to consolidate anywhere above the relegation zone.

There are still two or three more players to come in (with a goalkeeper, another defender and a goalscoring midfielder the priorities) and if we can get the right people on board, I fancy us to finish in the top half of the table.

I'm certainly not underestimating anyone, but I think other people might underestimate us and that will work in our favour.

I don't share the same optimism that we'll end up challenging the POs, I'm not sure I know how much L1 has changed in the 6 or so so years we were away to be that confident. There's some top top clubs I expect to be in the top 10 though.

However the argument that is was simply momentum which saw us through completely disregards our starts in the last two seasons. Last season we were bottom half at the start of December, even in the Conference we struggled initially. So it's a tough group that doesn't cave in at the first sign of defeat. We may struggle to adapt to League 1, but you'd hope not.

I fancy us to avoid relegation, and a top half finish in the 1st year back would be great. Boring mid-table/comfortable bottom half would be nice actually

It's nice having so many people putting us in play-offs and promotion places but it simply isn't going to happen.

We don't have the players, the squad is quite thread bare and there isn't much quality. No strikers, and no players close to coming in as we bottle giving bigger contracts. So no Aneke or Hall.

Mid-table for us.

Very much agree with you here. Putting aside rivalries etc, it seems very clear that your squad is weaker than last seasons, and that one was was weaker than your promotion squad. Your forum is a pretty despairing place right now!

Definitely is, rather annoying, nobody's really happy with seeing all our targets going to championship clubs. Management are aiming too high with the sort of players they want, we really need to lower our sights.

Oldham. Would love to put the gash but think they will survive, unfortunately.

All total guess work but I think Sheffield Utd have finally got a Manager who will get them back up.

I hope most of you are wrong, we've not been relegated in our current guise although we came dangerously close in 2013. Being 18 minutes from relegation isn't an experience I'd want to go through again.

Meadow, I hope I'm wrong as well. I would be very happy to see you do well, as would most I should think.
I would imagine the relative strengths of the teams in this league have changed since we were here so ignore my prediction as I really haven't got the foggiest idea.
Gillingham have still got Dack and their Manager who seems to have them playing some decent stuff and I think the signing of Wagstaff is a great bit of business for them.

Football changes a lot, never the forecast is 100% correct

Port Vale and many other clubs are a incognita, may well come in the league and surprising like the Burton Albion

Or be relegated

AFC Wimbledon can surprise everyone and get a table in the middle position

It is a box of surprises football

I will hold from making predictions as I haven't really followed League One at all over the past few years.

Think a lot of people are expecting too much from Oxford though. We have lost a lot of goals and pace in our team and it's difficult to see how we have replaced them.

I think our CB and CM options are competitive in this division but I'm a bit worried about other positions and, right now, we are extremely threadbare.

As things stand, I'd happily take 18-20th in the league if you offered it to me. I suspect Bristol R are a better bet for the surprise package.
