You've got to remember that when we signed Luongo, he wasn't an Australian international or one of the league's best players. He was just a kid from the Spurs academy who hadn't played for the first team. Sure, he'd be able to demand (and be worth) that sort of wage now bit back then? I'm not so sure.

Andy Williams and Wes Foderingham are our highest earners and on Di Canio-era wages. The rest, Lee Power has suggested, earn average (or less in some cases) money for League 1 players.

This is a good point and I believe what Hodge was trying to say earlier.

City might have a big budget, but they've gone out and spent wisely on players that can do the job and have sell on value. Then they've added some experience to that too.

It's easy to say we have a lot of money to play with, but look at some of the dross on big wages in this division. It's something City have been guilty of in the past but we've hopefully moved on from.

If the money is available then of course everyone would spend it but it's not the only reason they are top.
