I have heard Preston have a 'football special' organised in conjunction with their sponsors Virgin Trains for the trip to us. Is that true?

Than go to MK, or go on a dry train?

Obviously going slightly over the top but both of them put together sounds horrific not a fucking chance id go on a dry train anywhere and im 100% not going to mk ever again either. Ive been twice this year and really shouldnt have

I'm going with my dad and my 12 year old brother, so a dry train isn't that much of a pain in this circumstance. I'll be getting lashed in Manc on Saturday for Oldham to make up for it :)

Seems like every team makes an away game at our place in to some kind of 'big day'.

Being a direct route on a Virgin train line helps...

A 'dry' train, with stewards in every carriage...all the way to Milton Keynes.
I bet that's going to be a fun journey.

I'm on it.....

Good idea this, wish we'd do this for a game, as I haven't been on a train to an away game for years - it's so bloody expensive!!
This. Without advance discounts, the prices are fucking criminal these days. Standard train fare for our game on Saturday at Lincoln - £77. Disgrace.

The alternative to not driving so you can get on the lash all day used to be getting the train, which was great fun admittedly, but the prices are a joke now!

The alternative nowadays for people like me, who struggle to afford to fork out a hell of a lot of money for the train every week, is the club coaches; which are admittedly cheap, but you have to sneak Thachters in a Tango Apple bottle for christ sake!

Club coaches are great, although the average age on ours is about 70 :) The only solution really is to use something like trainline and get them for £20-30 but whenever I do that the game gets postponed or moved for TV. Long story short, fuck trains ;)

Sensible conclusion is that.

It usually is full of golden oldies on the club coaches, and even when we win, it's dead silent on the way back.

Either way, I'd rather save £50 a week and have to put up with the consequences on the coaches to be honest, but that's just how it is!

Yeah, a no brainer really. Our coach for Saturday is £17 which is fantastic value for a 7 hour round trip IMO. Only get the train for really local games these days.

If you know what your doing its not actually that expensive. Surely you dont go on your own so whichever mate you go with most get a two together railcard that automatically saves you a 1/3rd of every journey its only £15 each for the year. Also break your journeys up for example sheffield to bristol is £90 on the day so buy a sheff-derby , derby to birmingham , birmingham to cheltenham then cheltenham to bristol its exactly the same train you dont have to change and then that price would be £60 minus a 1/3rd for using your railcard then a return trip from sheff to bristol becomes £40 which in my eyes is pretty decent.

That, we split our journey every time it's possible

For Woking to Lincoln i can get it down to £39.80 for the London to Lincoln bit, split it by going via Peterborough.

Its easily done for most journeys just requires a tiny bit of common sense

dont know if this would help but if you have to change train companies often charge more than just the combined total of each ticket you'd need...this website tries to cut that out...slightly different to what Blademans on about (I think) and maybe not as cheap as it will find the quickest routes I presume

For the older members on here, Bring back the old Persil train vouchers - remember them!

Went from Swindon to Newcastle for a tenner - pity we got beat 5-0 though - the famous betting game which dropped us in the shit.

Went via Bristol Parkway, in Yates' in Newcastle by noon then somehow ended up in The Strawberry which is a no no for away fans but the hairy arsed Geordies were OK TBF

The no away fans in The Strawberry was always a bit of a myth, been there a couple of times and no problems at all. Act like a twat and I'm sure you'd get a clip, but that's the same for most places.

The only place I'd still not drink near the ground is at The Den, but with The George at London Bridge being a cracking boozer and beer in the ground there is no need to.

Not many places to drink in near The Den these days anyway, most closed down around the Old Kent Road.
