Whilst he may be a different player these days, we had Plummer on loan a few years back and he was arguably the worst defender I'd ever seen.

Fair enough. I trust Smith with young players though, so he must have 'something' about him. Apparently did okay in Scotland last year, but then again, I'm pretty sure I could play in the SPL.

Spurs are watching Enoch Andoh apparently and we've rated him at £2.5 million. Good old Sunday press

I think it was his first spell in professional football on loan with us so you could understand him being a bit shakey, however he really was bad. I would imagine he has improves somewhat since then.

Kyel Reid back to Bradford on loan?

Never really broken into the team here, showed a bit of promise but he's never Championship standard.

We've signed Tommy Rowe on loan from Wolves for a month.

We need another LB so this is great.

Kyle Reid returns on loan, initially for a month from Preston; likely to be well off the pace but knows us inside out and he's better than the currently fit wingers we have

Ehh, he's been alright. He looks massively fatigued though and he needs a rest.

Only really excels as a LB in a back four when he's allowed to get forward and cut in, if you've been using him as a wing back it's a waste.

He always looks like he's blowing out of his ass though and pace is not something he's blessed with.

Signed Senegalese defensive midfielder Momar Bangoura on a short term deal. No idea.

Rowe is a good signing at this level. I prefer him at Left Back than midfield. Give him the freedom to get forward and he's great there. Bit annoyed we didn't try to get him back ourselves.

Bit surprised we didn't sign him.

OK, in our current squad we've got three left backs, two more players who've started games there due to injuries/eccentricity and one left footed centre back whose certainly played there at his previous clubs.

But T Rowe played for Stockport in the 2008 playoff final against Dale. That means that he's due for a spell at Spotland - just like his colleagues Messrs Logan, Rose, McNulty, Dicker, Dickenson, Taylor and McNeil have.

Wonder what Liam Pilkington and Stephen Gleason are up to...

Evidently according to the Daily mail we are tracking Grays Athletic midfielder Nathan Ferguson. Nothing reported locally mind.

Ryan Lowe is off out on loan. League 2 or higher end of non-league.

Not happy about Rowe going out. He's a very good player and hasn't yet been given his opportunity at Morganeux.

Hope he shines (however one does that in rural Lincolnshire; presumably with root vegetables and a John Deere catalogue) and gets back to Wolves soonest.

I'm guessing Stephen Gleason is wondering if he's still able to play for Dale after retiring from the New Orleans Saints.

We've borrowed George Saville from Wolves for 28 days. We had him before and he was lightweight and didn't make in impact.
Hopefully he's a bit less useless now.

We have officially turned down an approach for Dean Smith from Rotherham this morning. He is out of contract at the end of the season though so I wouldn't be surprised to see this be the beginning of the end of him managing us.

Would it be the end of the world if he goes? Your fans have had a roller coaster of emotion towards him, last season you all wanted him out for instance?

The man creates teams that either go into dire form or insane form, nothing in the middle.

What Jonny said. Smith's done a consistently better job with the club OFF the pitch, than he has on. Smith's best work has come in changing the structure of the club and giving us a future. The teams he creates on the pitch are either exciting and excellent or dismal and dull. He consistently pulls things off when the club need it the most, which is why I ALWAYS back him, no matter how desperate things become on the pitch at times. He generally always finds a few individuals (his best asset) that come in and over-achieve compared to the rest of their career, or a youngster that's unproven and brings them on leaps and bounds. He also generally builds a very solid defence. Unfortunately his record in getting the team, or more importantly more than one specific person scoring consistenly is his downfall and because of that, our games have been absolutely predictably dull for the last 18 months, up until this season.

As always with football clubs, some fans have differing opinions and expect things on the pitch to be constantly rosy, which is entirely ridicolous given the budget and club size disparity compared to most teams in and around this league these days.

Off the pitch is where Smith has excelled. When he took over we were a constant team battling relegation. We have no philosophy and our future was basic a rinse and repeat. Sign cheap over the hill players, mostly who couldn't really give a toss and couldn't be sold on for the future. Have no sniff of anything other than bottom half league one football, constantly fell over at home to lower league teams in the cup, had no youth products, nobody who could align with the fans.

These days there is a philosophy. There are youth products signing 3 year deals all over the place because the board trust Smith and the players trust Smith. Our best players have generally been tied down to deals for the same reasons. (Bradshaw, Mantom, Henry, Taylor etc - it's why Butler had 4 years here despite everyone knowing he was good enough to go higher after about 6 months) You know that regardless of form we will always have a good footballing philosophy and at least try to play football the proper way. There's an aim, there's a sense of organisation and that our next win isn't too far away, even if things look bleak. We have taken numerous loans from Premier league clubs and been successful with them, our team is now made up with quite a few. (Forde from Wolves, Downing, Sawyers and Mantom from West Brom, Lalkovic from Chelsea, Hiwula last season) We probably have a decent reputation with loanees now, which means a few more will be willing down the line.

Smith would be a huge loss to us, but mostly for his philosophy structurally and his trust with the players/board. The stability he provides in the changing room can lead to some boring periods on the field, but you know good things are never too far away and SO FAR nothing outrageous has happened.

Dean Smith is a top manager, said it for years. Deserves his chance in the championship for sure.

I have heard the Gladwin to you rumour as well. Fer and Sandro staying has limited his playing time, so it makes sense.

Our young defender Matty Foulds has been linked with Derby, Villa and Everton. Decent amount of money is apparently involved. Just hope we put in a decent sell on clause as well.

What Dean Smith has done for Walsall sounds similar to what Keith Hill has done for Rochdale.

Would it work for Smith at another club though, particularly one where he had less of a free hand? After a decent start at Barnsley, the boobs went vertical for Hilly - might not the same happen for Smith at Rovrum... :pond:
