Someone's getting worried...........
To be honest, I'm more worried about us and the now all to familiar mish mash of longshots.

So where has all your new found finance come from? Or is it just a huge punt.

Our chairman is happy to invest money in players that have the potential to make money.

That means young talented players out of contract with their old club. No transfer fees involved apart from the tribunal set fee for Nelson as he is 23. Also it means we will have to accept that we will need to sell players.

Yes we are still hemorrhaging money in rent to our stadium owner but I expect the plan is to purchase the stadium if and when we get to the Championship where the TV money and crowds will help.

Roofe and O'dowda will be valued over 1 million with reports that we are valuing Roofe at 3 million.
Other players such as Skarz, Ribeiro, Wright, Dunkley, Nelson, Sercs, Lunny, Macdonald and Thomas would all command a fee, are young and likely to increase in value if we have a good start to the season...

Hello chaps, first post here and nice to see an active League One forum.

I'm generally happy with our signings so far, I see people critisice the likes of Dodds and AJ, but you have to take into context our expectations and limitations, these are certainly good signings for a club of our stature in this division, in my opinion of course. I don't doubt the terrible reports of McGivern but I'm satisfied with the mentioned above, plus O'Brien, Riley, Sarcevic etc, so no complaints from me so far.

Losing Knight-Percival to Bradford is dissapointing but not unexpected. Classy defender who has had injury issues but hopefully thats behind him now, if we've offered him a reduced contract because of said injuries I'd be dissapointed, if it was actually a reasonable offer but he's decided to move on then fair dos.

Reports of Collins going to Wimbledon today but doesn't seem to be any confirmation, think its fair to say him, Barnett and Wellens are all available and hopefully we can move them on to free up considerable wages.

We're certainly on track to have a better squad then last season, I hope.
Riley can't defend for toffee. Puts the ball in the stand rather than to a teammate when he tries to pass. Has a powerful shot and thinks he's better than he is. I doubt he will play much for you once Mellon works him out.

And McFadz £500,000.

So that's already £900,000 on two league one players. Enjoy that.

Skarz? You'd be lucky to get 20k for him. Mediocre at this level.

Riberio is 27 and Thomas 29, young, really?

Delusions of grandeur in Oxford.

God forbid anybody who signs Kelle Roos. Literally cost us 12/15 points last season before we got rid.

Yet he was superb for us last season and if we had him all season I expect we may have been automatic rather than playoff promotion.

Your opinion of Skarz is outdated. I wasn't aware of the ages of Ribeirio and Thomas without doing research so I apologise profusely! They look young to me but maybe that's just me getting old!

Two divisions below...

He was truly atrocious in the 7/8 games he played for us, literally had no saving graces. Mistake after mistake.

Skarz spent 3 seasons with us and played 78 games and was atrocious in league one and the championship. My opinion is more valid than yours as you've only seen him play at his level, league two.

You're in for a rude awakening with him.

Tbf, Thomas should be a decent signing at L1 level from what I saw of him last year. I agree there is no profit in him and he is likely to be a big wage.

We were interested in Ribeiro a couple of season back but the fella is made of glass. Every club at this level is recruiting mainly freebies and out of contract players - it's the wages that can really fuck a club up.

Cant see why Uncle Firoz would want to stop raking in £500,000 pa on the rent by selling the ground.

Do the requirements of good goalkeeping change that much up and down the divisions.

You just know what's going to happen. Thomas to score the winner at the CG first game of the season.

I think I might agree with you more than I do with Robie on this one. Skarz was solid enough in League 2, and I think that may be his level, but we will see. Left full back is one of our weaker areas.

He was correct though on the philosphy the club now has on getting promising younger players in (or though our improving youth set up), developing them, then selling on.
I'd say the players that fall in to that category are: Roofe (23), O'Dowda (21), Lundstram (22) and hopefully now Nelson (23).
But, I hope we manage to hold on to all of those for this season!

My Cov mate who is probably going to the game with me said the same.

I suppose thinking back to our dear old David Duke who the majority of town fans castigated for the whole time he played for us, and he played over 200 games for us!!

I noticed that Thomas was taken on loan by Liverpool when he was 17 so they must have seen something about him then. The worry is that it does sound like he's gone backwards a bit. Unfortunately you have to take the Coventry fans word for it as they have seen him play but i'm confident that he cannot be any worse than bloody Anton Rodgers!

It is strange, though, who we give 3 year contracts to and those we don't.

Anyway, with Obika and Kasim both staying for the season, things are suddenly looking that bit brighter

Would be happy if we can get Beautyman from Posh that our midfield is more or less done and dusted with Goddard, Beautyman, Kasim and Thomas with Rodgers and young Tom Smith as backup. Couple of strikers, a couple of centre backs and fullbacks and we are there!

Clarke will cost you £400.000 minimum.

And McFadz £500,000.

So that's already £900,000 on two league one players. Enjoy that.

Like I said its from a guy who hasn't been wrong yet, even called Wilder coming in 2/3 months before the season finished.

Don't care what they cost tbh, ain't my money.

You're the only Rotherham fan i've seen say he was crap for you at this level, and players do improve you know.

It's fashionable for our fans to cry we haven't got any money, McCabe is slashing the wage bill, need to sell our best player etc. etc. whilst ignoring that we've had the highest or 2nd highest wage bill every year we've been down here
