To be honest, I'm more worried about us and the now all to familiar mish mash of longshots.

So where has all your new found finance come from? Or is it just a huge punt.

I don't think we're necessarily splashing the cash excessively. We have increased our budget for the step up, but season ticket sales are up very considerably and I'd expect average attendances will be up by 2,000/3,000 on last season if we have a reasonably decent season (which I expect we will). Added to that prices have also gone up, so I'd say our extra income from promotion will be in excess of £1million. We lost a shed load of cash two years ago, but last year pulled in a lot through our cup runs, so even taking into account the kasham factor we are not in bad shape compared to many at this level.

Don't forget we also have very saleable assets in the likes of Roofe, O'Dowda , Lundstram etc etc with very substantial seven figure sums being turned down for at least two of them already this close season. We have a great record under the current management of finding and developing players (including those from our academy) and there's no reason to expect this to cease any time soon.

As for the ground, the only and continuing obstacle to us owning it is kasham himself. But the pressure is building on him from club, community, local authority etc so he can't hold out forever. Personally I'd have the bastard assassinated.

Happy with Nelson. As has been said, adds to the growing list of players that may have sell on potential. Ribiero's played 39 games the last two seasons, so hardly made of glass; but more cover for right back too.

Skarz the interesting one. I'm concerned he'll struggle. Against any sort of pace last year he seemed prone to lunging in and getting beaten. Hugely reluctant to cross a ball as well. He was solid for us last year, but so was Mullins, so was Hylton, and we've not shown them any sentiment. Question mark for me.

My Cov mate who is probably going to the game with me said the same.

I suppose thinking back to our dear old David Duke who the majority of town fans castigated for the whole time he played for us, and he played over 200 games for us!!

I noticed that Thomas was taken on loan by Liverpool when he was 17 so they must have seen something about him then. The worry is that it does sound like he's gone backwards a bit. Unfortunately you have to take the Coventry fans word for it as they have seen him play but i'm confident that he cannot be any worse than bloody Anton Rodgers!
This is hilarious, you're saying what we were saying when we hoped that he'd come good but he never did.

So how come he played so many games?

Maybe your coaching is shit. Anyway, we've had enough ugly ducklings turn into swans to give him a chance - Kasim couldn't get a game at Macclesfield and we turned him into an international.

James Wilson confirmed
Alongside a leader he is great. Massive confidence player, when he plays well there aren't many better centre Halfs in the division but when his head drops he is awful

I am so bored this pre-season, only two signings and a complete lack of rumours about any more. Anyone care to make some up to keep us Gills fans entertained?

We're a Championship club, head and shoulders above Oxford in every way imaginable, whats your point?

OK, I'll bite, and then I've got to get back to doing some work.

I could have just answered with a one liner such as "I rest my case" but here's a few facts for you:

Over the last 50 years you've spent a grand total of ten of them above the third tier, and all of those were in the second tier. During that period we spent 21 years above the third tier, including three in the top tier; something Rotherham have never done. Four years ago you were in the fourth tier averaging less than 3,500 fans, something we've never done. And don't quote Don Valley as the reason, as during the last 50 years you've averaged less than 4,000 on 14 separate occasions, including less than 3,000 twice. I think you've got a very short memory. You just happen to be a Championship team (only just) at the moment. The facts show that you're not a Championship club.

One of us is a world famous city of learning and culture, and the other one is Rotherham. Yeah, sure you're "head and shoulders above us in every way imaginable"

Oxford spent 5 years in the conference in that period, something Rotherham have never done.

That fact alone trumps every fact you've just spouted, your ground only has 3 sides too.

If you want to talk attendances, Oxford highest ever average is 11,637 and Rotherham's is 18,770.

Look, I'm no lover of Oxford, but got to agree with Eric on this one. Hanging on in the Championship is hardly a yardstick to use over an extended period of time.

Would have thought 3 years in the top division should be game, set and match when comparing.

Cheers, Wilder has said he wants another two centre backs (Wilson is currently our only option there)...so hopefully one of those is a leader.

He's 22, not 32. It's not Beyond the realms that he still might come good, fresh club, fresh start.

I'd have thought never dropping to the conference in comparison to a team who spent 5 years there would be game, set and match.

It's not how far you drop, it's how high you go.

See Rotherham as another Donny in waiting, tbh.

I thought someone had cloned Ray McHale and he's on Gills radar

Quite the opposite if you ask me.

Donny rinsed John Ryan dry and fell as soon as he pulled the plug. They were never self sustainable , we are.

Not sure what you mean by lack of rumours. These have been spoken about

George McLennan
Deji Oshilaja
A premier league (youth) striker
A new wide man

plus, we haven't really lost many players have we? Egan's gone, along with Dickenson, McGlashan and Loft. This isn't one of those summers where we need to sign 10 players!

By all accounts we will be announcing three more signings in the next hour. Given they will all be foreign players not got a clue who they could be.

On another note looks like we will be parting company with Enoch Andoh. Extremely disappointed with this. Apparently could not agree terms, granted he is coming off an ACL injury but if he can get back to full fitness then some other team will have a hell of a player on their hands.

Dominic Calvert Lewin to Everton for a reported £1million.

Person who gave rumours above confirmed he is having a medical today but no information on if the fee is correct. Personally think we're having their pants down if that price is correct...fee for McFadzean and Clarke I imagine...

What kind of team do you expect him to sign for? He seems like the kind of player Jon Whitney likes and needs. We have 1 wide man at the club and are desperate for wingers. Whitney also seems to like to take those troubled with injuries and then utilise his knowledge as a physio/injury prevention-ist to help them play more games.
