Kilgallon is the last piece for our defence probably. Very solid now and lots of experience at the back.

Loza and Santos deals now look like they may fall through as the chairman wants to buy a proven scorer according to the press officer at Vale/Smurfs twitter.

That would be more sensible than signing a goalkeeper and midfielder that we don't particularly need.

That said, it doesn't particularly reflect well on Bruno's purchases considering he has signed 3 strikers and yet the chairman still feels he needs to spend money on another striker

WALSALL Football Club are delighted to confirm the signing of Cypriot international Andreas Makris on a 3-year deal that will see the player become the club's record transfer.

Blackett looks to be one of those United players who manages to forge a career based off the back of one or two circumstantial league appearances. High profile loan moves to Birmingham and Celtic and an u-21 call-up despite playing dogshit.

He's no Jorge Leitao.

Candidate for the seasons biggest disappointment I think. Looks like he's only ever played in Cyprus. What a gamble.

If he is half as good as Jorge, £250k will be a bargain in everyone's book!

Can't believe Jeff has finally opened his wallet!

37 year transfer record broken, nearly signed by Midlesborough last summer.. Dortmund/Everton linked when he was 18.

Recommended by Jason Demetriou, English speaking. If he's half as good as Demetriou or our last fee for a foreign striker, then we've got a good one.

Played in the same team as Jason Demetriou who came to this league and was, in my opinion, the best right back in the league. He's supposedly rated higher than Jason ever was as well as being 8 years younger. I think Jason helped to put a barometer down as to how good the Cypriot league is compared to league 1.

But I agree, still could flop. I'm just over the moon we have taken a risk and shown some ambition for the first time in decades.

You won't find many on here impressed with the signing of a foreign player [emoji38]

Give Walsall's board some credit. On paper, they've found the best possible replacements they could have hoped for the players they've lost. Gillingham and Scunthorpe also done well not to fall apart this Summer. A few teams I thought might have missed their chance last season maybe not so far away from competing for a 2nd time in succession...

We've signed a couple with decent past potential but got battered for it!

Cobblers sign former Portsmouth and burnley midfielder Matty Taylor. Happy with that.

Whilst I'm always reticent to get excited about signing someone from abroad at least your chairman has been quick to reinvest and replace your leading scorer with around half the money received.

After missing out on Collins to crawley we look to be close to taking the other shrews reject.

Indeed.

I don't think any Walsall fan can moan this off-season. For sure the exodus isn't helpful, but actually, it's quite clear that Whitney wanted to offer what he thought some of the squad players were worth and they could leave it or take it, hence why only a couple of the players actually went to clubs at a higher level. We were ALWAYS losing Sawyers, Demetriou and Bradshaw if we didn't get promoted - Forde's agent has got him a superb deal and can understand why he has left.

As for the rest, Mantom wasn't the same player, Downing was a defensive weak link playing in a steady side, Lalkovic whilst decent has never really pushed on and wasn't worth the budget he wanted, Cook got offered a tiny back up striker offer that he was never going to accept.

Oztumer is a decent Sawyers replacement, he won't be on a small wage. Moussa is a risk, but if he gets fit is arguably one of the best in the division. Cuvelier has a higher ceiling at a younger age than Mantom. Unlike last year when we TOTALLY relied on Bradshaw for goals, we appear to have Jackson, who has a decent pedigree and wouldn't be a horrible back up and have spent half of the Bradshaw fee on a player, on a 3 year deal - I don't think anyone could argue too much. We kept the spine of last year's team in Etheridge, O'Connor, Chambers too.

All of a sudden..

Etheridge

Edwards
McCarthy
O'Connor
Henry

Chambers
Cuvelier

Morris
Oztumer
Moussa

Markis

Isn't a bad starting XI for a team that were completely raided only 6 weeks ago.

I'm not so sure, depends if his heart is still in it or just after a last payday. Was 50:50 on his rumours to us, has the potential to be very good or very bad...we've signed enough of these types of players over the last few seasons to be very wary of a Coutts, Hammond etc.

We look alright at centre back with Kilgallon signing but I wouldn't say we are totally solid. Darby and Meredith are good for this league but Darby is injured for the start of the season and Meredith hasn't played much of preseason. And the back up for them is cover at best, players playing out of position because good full backs don't want to come here as they know they won't play if Darby and Meredith are fit. We are also still waiting on a decent striker with 5 days until the season start but that's a different story.

What's Matty Taylor like these days? Played a sizeable role for Burnley in their promotion so I'd imagine he'll be too good for league 1

Centre half Ryan Cresswell leaves today too, in preparation for another centre half to come in this week. Shame but he wasn't exceptional.

Tyrone Barnett has had his contract cancelled by mutual consent.

Ousmane fane had a medical today. Was linked with Derby and Birmingham over the last couple of months but seems like we have agreed a fee with Kidderminster for him.

If you're referring to Barnett you might have some competition from Swindon.

We've given youth striker Jordan Young a 3 year contract on his 17th birthday, suggesting we think he may have a promising career ahead of him. Could be Ajose numero deux
