He is class but if we were to get offered £500k for a 29 year old league 2 striker who despite being a club legend, has only had one good season in the Football League, I'd snatch your hands off.

I'd be very underwhelmed if true.

Would rather see us go for a Omar Bogle type player.

If we pay anything like that it would be foolish.Seriously no more than £100k tops.

300k I'd go for as he clearly has all the attributes for L1, he's goal machine simple as. He has 2-3 years left at his peak and 2 years left on his contract. I'd be a bit pissed off if we let him go this late on.

I know that sounds strange Bobbin, let me explain.

When Green signed for us in the conference he was used as a right winger for most clubs in his first stint in the football league for clubs like Oxford, Cheltenham etc.

He came to us and Paul Cox turned him into an absolute goal machine in the conference, he bagged around 30 in his first season and 25 the next. He moved to Birmingham and got an awful injury so his only real games in his return to the football league as a striker was last season for us at the age of 28/29 and he scored around 16 goals.

I'm sure he'll get 15-20 again but his career has been a weird one in that the only club who's given him a chance as an out and out striker is us.

To be fair, Green played as a striker in his first spell at Oxford. It just made more sense to put him on the right with Constable in the middle when we won promotion.

Apparently. I questioned it to but the guy has been right before:dk:
Not doubting you Aber, but I sincerely hope we aren't willing to pay a fee in excess of £200,000 for a 29 year old League Two striker. It's definitely encouraging if Wael is prepared to back DC with a transfer fee for a player, but I'd hope we go for a younger player with a re-sale value rather than Matt Green. Having said that, I do back DC to make the right decisions.

We have a good few strikers in the squad but bar Taylor, I'm not convinced many of them will be regular goalscorers at this level. It wouldn't surprise me if one of the new players we sign in the next 10 days is a forward.

Our local journo has confirmed that the Smith saga is now dead in the water.

If true, it would indicate that we're not prepared to pay what Manfield are demanding.

Good, I hope we go in for Armstrong now.

JJ Hooper signs on loan from Port Vale until January. Will be his second spell as a Cobbler. Let's hope he does better than his last spell down here. Port Vale fans is he good enough for league one?

He has shown signs of knowing where the net is but I can't ever see him being prolific. A few Vale fans on here had hopes that he might turn into that gem of a striker this season but obviously Bruno has other ideas. Hopefully this loan move will be followed up with the announcement of a proven goalscorer at this level signing for us

Cheers for that. Have to say I'm not convinced he is the answer to our goalscoring problems. Time to prove me wrong JJ!

Page signing his mates again... has played so surprised but not been effective so obviously moved out ready for the proven striker to come in i assume.

Underwhelmed by JJ Hooper. Hoping we get a winger in also. At least its pace up top, hoping he has come on a lot since last time.

Strange move this. I saw this as the season Hooper came good, and maybe a loan move will help, but I'm thinking it signals a more experienced or talented player on the way in before Saturday

Been unlucky to miss out on Leon Best and Luke Varney (Ipswich coming in at 11th hour on both!) and Mario Balotelli is unrealistic despite the press rumours but do expect someone of a capable level will come in.

Hooper doesn't fit our system and we are getting a winger in also so makes sense although surprised he has gone to a League One club when he's still raw and yet to be proven.

Hooper was average at best from what I saw. Never going to be a prolific goal scorer.

Hopefully paves the way for a better striker to come in.

He's looked completely lost playing out on the right. If Bruno isn't going to play him in the center then perhaps it's the best for both parties that he moves on and we can try someone else there.

Quite odd that Page has come in for JJ Hooper, as JJ was a player that he hardly used to play when he was Vale manager citing that he wasn't near ready.

He has got the odd decent goal in him but he's no where near prolific by any stretches of the imagination.

Byron Webster supposedly on our radar (according to local journos). He's meant to be keen on the move but depends on Millwall.

We've signed goalkeeper Kelle Roos on a season-long loan from Derby County.

I liked what I saw from him when he played for Wimbledon at The Mem back in March, but how was he for you guys overall?

We had him on trial in pre-season and didn't impress by all accounts.
