What's the point in that?

What's he going to play in a mask and tape across his name on the back?
Maybe because it is Commons and he's still on loan at Hibs, won't announce until that's over on Sunday?

Southend receive initial £1.1million for Dan Bentley. He was out of contract and joined Brentford in the summer. Surprisingly pleased at that, thought tribunal would screw us over.

Hopefully some of that can be spent on a couple of new strikers. I won't hold my breath.

20% sell on and add ons. Decent tribunal for us, happy with the deal. More than I was expecting

1.1 million?! We only got 600k for Egan, what a shocking decision.
Not really, Egan was only with you for two years so you can hardly claim to have contributed significantly to his development, he was 21/22 when he signed for you (going of wiki).

Bentley was at Southend since 2008, from the age of 14, and making his league debut for the club. I'd say based on the remit of the tribunal (to reward the clubs responsible for development of the player) it looks to me like they've got this spot on. If anything I'd have said half a million for Egan was on the generous side, regardless of whether it accurately reflects his actual value.

Is that how it's worked out though? Genuine question cos I don't know.
I thought it was to do with the value of the "asset" not the length of time they'd been with the club.

I'm fairly certain that's the idea - its about recompensing clubs for the cost of developing talent. I think if it were based on the prospective value of the player it would fall foul of restrain of trade (EU regs). It would essentially be the equivalent of clubs holding onto a players registration once they are out of contract. I'm fairly sure that's essentially what Bosman was trying to prevent.

Previous bids turned down also have an effect on this I believe, we turned down 1.25 mil from QPR for him in the summer before his last season for us. That obviously went in our favour.

Maybe because it is Commons and he's still on loan at Hibs, won't announce until that's over on Sunday?

Would make some sense.

Don't see the sense in announcing it at all though, why not just wait until Sunday or Monday?

Id take 70k for grant as he doesnt want be here so we might aswell sell him and that 70k could strengthen the squad in other departments.

Hopefully not counting chickens, but it appears we have Jed Wallace back on loan for the rest of the season, probably with a view to a permanent deal being done in the summer. I'd be delighted with that, he was superb for us last year and is still only 22.

The sort of signing that could make the difference this season.

Now confirmed. Very, very pleased with that. We still need a centre half but we gives us another massive threat in the team.
With the XI that we can put out we really ought to make top 6 now. I think Harris will be in trouble if we don't.

Morison, Gregory, O'Brien, Fred, Wallace. Those are among the best forward options in the league. If Harris gets in another centre half and can actually get us playing football consistently then we should be a shoe in for the top six. Certainly the best options we've had in this league since the turn of the century.

Yup, but scoring goals hasn't really been our Achilles heel this year, it's been atrocious defending by the centre-halves. A good centre back to prevent Craig needing to play there is absolutely critical, but is probably all we are short by.

Jake Gosling is off to FGR. First of a few out in the next couple of days.
Aber I take my hat off to you -- Another 6 told they will not play for the first team again. Although with 4 members currently out injured and the 4 loanees returning to their prospective clubs leaves us a bit short at the moment.

It's hard because most of those guys have played their part in our rise. I feel for macca especially but I think it's the right thing to do. DC is being honest with them and hopefully they'll all find new clubs quickly.

OK-ish. Not exactly wrist slashing cos he got recalled. But, tbh, it would be difficult to stand out in such a poor team. The lad we've got from Chelsea as his replacement looks an upgrade based on his debut.

Any apparently Harris agreed, as we've just signed 6'7" Jake Cooper as cover at Centre Half on loan until the summer. He might be great, he might be shite. I have absolutely no idea.
