Sercs is a decent player, I don't think he's capable of starting on a promotion contender though, but you never know, I am shocked we got a fee for him, but 150k isn't much in terms of League 1 transfer fees, good luck to him though

Skarz to sign and play as left sided centre back. Good signing. Only disappointed with the signing of Edwards as not sure he can play wing back.

Have your other centre halves got pace? Skarz did reasonably as an emergency centre half in L2 but not sure I'd want him as a regular in L1 there. A very decent/solid, hard-working left back but not sure as a regular centre back.

We have the best centre half in the lower leagues, when he isn't injured!!
Missed most of the last 2 seasons so who knows how he will come back.

Cameron as but think he will be played in a back 3 with wingbacks was Clarke favoured formation

Sercombe was a bit hit and miss for us but did really well in L2 for Oxford.

He's got bags of energy and can score some great goals but we never really utilised him properly. He's defenity better playing further up the pitch as his goal record for Oxford suggests....

Weren't there some rumours flying around in oxford about Sercs having a drug addiction?

I haven't heard anything about that at all.

On top of the moaning tweets after Wembley, I've read about allegations of a serious argument with the manager or our owner in front of the other players that was disrespectful to those players and he refused to apologise for it when asked. Whether this is true I don't know, he would have had to apologise if he wanted to stay and something obviously happened with the actions taken by Michael Appleton and the club. The club triggered a 1 year extension clause in his contract as they weren't prepared to let him go on a free whereas this summer and last summer have let players like Jake Wright and Joe Skarz finish their contracts early to go to other clubs as they have acted professionally and weren't guaranteed 1st team football which their previous efforts deserved.

Overall, I think all parties will be happy with this, we possibly get £150k or so and freed up budget, Bristol Rovers get a very decent player and Sercs gets a fresh start.

Could be alright then if he has somebody alongside him with pace. Consummate professional and appears a top bloke.

Very much doubt Clark will play with wing backs this season.

£150k for an average League 1 midfielder?

Surely there's better players out there who's contract is up this summer?

Apparently Richard Smallwood has rejected a new deal at Rotherham and is joining us.

Not sure I really want him, he was okay on loan last season but nothing special.

Apparently ourselves and Posh are battling it out to sign AFC Fylde striker Danny Rowe (no relation to Tommy who plays for us and has also for Posh) reports of between £250-500k so probably bollocks on our part.

It's all relative, isn't it? I don't believe there is a massive difference between a lot of league one players, but it's well known with DC that he fits his players into a system and he's publically said exactly what type of players he wants this summer. One was an attacking central midfielder who can score goals and Sercombe is obviously a player in that mold that he's tried to sign before.

Also, seeing as he was due to go up to Scotland with talks for Hibs in the next couple of days, i'd imagine we weren't the only ones offering atleast similar money.

Could well be that sort of figure considering Fylde won't want to sell and they are a rich man's vanity project.

Aye, I reckon that's probably in the right ball park.

I'd be interested to see how he does in the football league, he's ridiculous at that level.

Was on our books as our kid but Man United poached him off us and paid what was a record compensation fee at the time.

Richard Smallwood has turned down a new deal and will move on. Good holding midfield player for somebody in this division.

Meanwhile, we are linked with every free agent and anyone that ever played under Robinson at MK Dons and have obviously signed none of them, nor will we until we've sold some of our big assets. All this despite Robinson saying (which he does a lot of) that he was confident of getting the players we needed early.

Just the usual pre-season under Roland. Let a few go, sell someone, sign a few freebies that are left and make the rest up with loans and repeat.

He's alright to be honest, started off well for us and then picked up an injury, was then rushed back during our terrible run and wasn't fit so made some bad mistakes. Once he was fit again he looked decent albeit in a back three so obviously has more protection.

Not great on the ball but a decent defender for this level I think.

Sercombe will probably come on as a sub and score against us, Skarz could come on as a sub and put it in his own net.

I agree Skarz was a really nice guy and professional but he has lost all ability to position himself properly and doesn't have pace to make up for it anymore.

Marshall will be surely going down south. Question is where. Wonder if Millwall are interested in setting up our left wing connection now they've gone up?

I don't see Skarz as an improvement in our team tbh. I hope that doesn't come true.

Joe Skarz is a top League Two left back. During the end of season promotion tun in it was accepted that he'd be out for the last part of the season and early pre-season. Following injuries to our left backs, Skarz came back in and played through obvious injuries to get us out of the brown stuff. He was clearly playing through some significant discomfort and quite a serious problem. It's a measure of the guy, he will put his body on the line. In terms of commitment you won't get much better.

Ability wise he's not a a centre half I'd feel comfortable relying on. Left back he's safe enough, he doesn't really have any pace but he's physically capable without blowing you away in respect of his actual ability. He was a bit exposed by the better sides in this division, but I'm sure he wasn't alone in that.

Liam Sercombe is an excellent footballer, again at League Two level he and John Lundstram formed a cracking partnership that was the catalyst for our promotion campaign. Often dominating games and cutting teams apart through determination, energy and that cutting edge required in any winning side. Again, Sercs in November (if memory serves me) was ruled out for the season, but he ended up surprising the medical team by returning in Jan/Feb and contributing to the side. It's just unfortunate that he left under a bit of a cloud but he's held in high regard by supporters. Personally I think if he got a run in the side he'd be a sound acquisition as he has that intangible quality where he can drive a side forward particularly when up against it. He's a unique breed, he isn't really like many footballers that you can make a comparison to so he's hard to describe.

Nonetheless he's a decent player at this level who ought to contribute to a Rovers side. I think you'll like him.
