As expected, Sunderland have tabled a 6 figure bid for Charlie Wyke.

Sorry, but the asking price is at least £1m.

Having said that, if Mark McNulty is worth £1.2m, then Wyke is nearer £2m - regardless of when his contract expires.

I’d be happy with 750k for Wyke but would be asking for 1m. Gives us at least 500k profit to invest in a decent goal scorer. He’s our best striker and he gets goals but he’s not gonna score 25- 30 a season for us, he might do in a better side.

So, how’s your recruitment going? Has that little fella opened the purse strings?

Going fine, cheers. Rumoured £100k for Gavin Whyte yesterday. Samir Carruthers and Luke Garbutt on season long loans from Sheffield Utd and Everton respectively. A young prospect in Cameron Norman and also the experienced Tony McMahon (unsure on this one though).

One of the young players signed from Southampton for the U23s, Armani Little (chavtastic name) has made a real impression after getting on to the tour. As have some of the 1st year pros from last year.

Simon Eastwood has signed a new 3 year contract and we've got around £1m in transfer fees as well for Ledson and Hemmings.

Defence sorted, midfield on the way and hopefully we'll hear something about the forward line early next week. Possibly 5-6 still to come in with maybe another couple for the U23s.

Off the pitch, we'll be moving into the new training ground in a few weeks and Shaun Derry as the new first team coach replacing Chrissy Allen who's become the new u23 Development team manager. There has been investment in the Academy with additional staff (coaching, recruitment) and various changes being implemented by our Academy Manager Dan Harris.

I've heard you've signed Luke McCormick but how is pre-season going for you?

Edit: We have one of your ex-loanees, Michael Doughty on trial for today's friendly vs Hampton & Richmond. If nothing else it helps us with numbers as we also played Oxford City today and split the 1st team squad.

How does it work?

How much the selling club is willing to accept, how much the selling club needs the money, whether the player is agitating for a move, length of the player's contract, how desperately the buying club want him, and I'm sure many other reasons.

I liked Doughty. A bit short of pace, but a decent L1 player. Had hoped he’d come back.

As for pre season, I’ve just come back from the WBA friendly, 1-1. Very impressed with us, or as impressed as you can be with friendlies. There’s a bit of anti McCormick feeling about but seeing as Power has been down to Argos for players it doesn’t seem too bad.

A young lad we’ve got, Alzate looks an absolute star.

Ah right, now I understand. :bl:

Well, thankfully we don’t need the money as much as our fans would love to believe - and the asking price has been well documented - in which case, should the club play hardball, we’ll get more (overall) than the sale of McNulty to Reading ..... which, I guess, was my point.

Thanks doh.

Looks like Wyke’s off, our players are liking tweets about him being decent for Sunderland. I await being disappointed with the fee. Can’t see us getting over 1m for him but hope I’m wrong.

We've had a 2nd bid turned down by Cheltenham for Mohammad Eisa. Looks like it was around £1million. Think we really want him. They are holding out for £1.5m

I may have missed something, but I didn’t realise Pompey had that much money at their disposal?

He's got really good potential and he's a cracking lad all round. Came on loan in January last season and apart from 2-3 games he was up front on his own and scored 8 in 18 a few of them were sub appearances. He's a box striker so if you have players that can feed him I have no doubt he can get 12-15 goals. He needs to bulk up a bit but that will probably come with age and if he plays with a forward that can do most of the dirty work I have no doubt he'll be a success.

He's an ex-youth player they sold to Boro and loaned back.

From what I've seen on telly highlights he's more than useful - would happily have him at Dale on loan.

Let’s hope we can keep hold of Wyke then, could be a useful partnership

Player sales

If we do sign Eisa then we will accept Cov's bid for Conor Chaplin. We also got sell on money for Adam Webster when he recently moved from Ipswich to Bristol City for fairly big money. This would cover most of it.

Would be a massive jump in transfer fees for us (post meltdown). It sounds like he's keen to come to us. I suppose it all depends on whether Cheltenham are satisfied. Perfectly within their rights to demand whatever they feel. If the budget doesn't stretch we'll have to walk away.

Also the owner has already stated he's not going to throw money away on players on huge wages for the sake of it, but is happy to invest in a player who could grow with us and maybe sell for a bit profit

.

I can't imagine many clubs buy to make a loss! Especially at our level.

Eisner isn't going to saction a transfer on a big name 31+ championship player on big wages, but spend over a million on a young up and coming player.

That’s basically our model, but some fans disapprove.

Gills fans - do you want Cody McDonald back? Word is he's surplus to requirements due to the surplus weight he piled on over the summer.

When he was doing his Q&A sessions before the fans took the vote he basically said he's not here to chuck in loads of money buying old players on huge wages to fly through the league. He's spending money on the stadium, academy, merchandising/PR etc.. If we want a sugar daddy type then don't sell to him.

Double signing for City today, both season long loans.

George Miller from Boro
Jack Payne from Huddersfield

Both seem like good additions.
