Nathan Jones is 10/11f for the Stoke job. I’d be very surprised if it happened.

Stanleyfan, how do you rate Connor Ripley? seems he's our main GK target.

Wouldn't be surprising at all though would it? Stoke only 8 points off the Championship playoff spots and will have a good sized budget to work with. I mean I'm sure he's loving life at Luton at the moment but there's half the season to go yet and if you don't get promotion there's every chance you could have a shit season next term and he could be sacked, or even if you do go up the gulf in quality is ridiculous right now, a much bigger shift than from L2 to L1. Football management is quite a precarious profession so managers tend to take these chances more often than not when they come along.

And that's not even factoring in the money aspect. Takes the job at Stoke and he's guaranteed a big pay day even if he fails.

Cian Bolger I was impressed with in the past in his Southend days; I think he would fit into Lincoln’s style.
Our style which you refer isn't really our style this season.

We're not Barca, but not as direct as last season.

I seriously doubt Stoke would be interested. They're desperate for a return to the Prem and spent a fortune over the summer. They won't want a high risk, one for the future, long term appointment - they'll take a quick fix Allardyce, Moyes, Warnock style appointment.

Unknown at the moment. The most recent chatter from their manager implies that they "missed him" and he'll be involved from now on, but who knows.. two weeks ago he was saying there's a decent chance he'll go back out on loan. Hopefully we get first dibs if he does!
Peterborough, Sunderland and yourselves are interested — don’t know if that’s permanent or loan. I’d have him back in the squad, but it is bizarre that Millwall supporters are having debates about how big the fee should be given that four months ago the consensus was that he probably wouldn’t make it here.

Paudie O’Connor, cb from Leeds on loan, been at Blackpool for the first half of the season if any of their fans could tell us how he is?

Half a decent season and Lowe and Whatmough both linked with moves away. I preffered it when we had no good players!! Jack Whamough linked with Celtic, Rangers and Aberdeen.

We've signed Bright Enobakhare on loan from Wolves. Seems a good bit of business on paper.

There are only 11 places between the two teams and he signed a player only yesterday. He has been intimating that any player who wants to leave must have a project better than this one, so why would he be a hypocrite? Stoke have just sacked their manager after 8 months and being 8 points off the play offs and mid table. They want a quick fix; Jones doesn’t want to do that.

If one of the stadium projects get turned down however...

Always like this argument.

As if managers ignore the bigger job, bigger challenge, bigger budget, better players, better facilities, better prospects, bigger potential, better salary etc because the team are only 11 places above.

Sure Eddie Howe wouldn’t fancy the Liverpool gig or Frank Lampard the Newcastle one.

so why would he be a hypocrite?

Yep, would really go against the trend of players and managers.
They want a quick fix; Jones doesn’t want to do that.

All that said, I agree with this. I expect Stoke will pick from the merry-go-round.

Kenny don't be a fool mate, Stoke are just out of the Premier League having been there for a decade, average over 20k attendance in the Championship and are owned by one of the richest families in Britain.

They were pre season favourites for promotion this year and will be backed to go again next year. Even in the event of Luton getting promotion this season a successful season next year would be 21st position.

Of course Jones would take the Stoke job if he was offered it, doesn't mean he isn't loving his time at Luton it's just a significant step up the ladder and a real chance to be a Premier League manager in a year or two.

We just have to hope that Stoke want a been there done it man rather than an up and comer.

As someone in the local area concerning Stoke and someone who regularly listens to their fans moan on the radio week in week out about their club, the worst thing Nathan Jones could do for his career is to become Stoke manager, although it'll be the best thing he'll do for his bank balance.

Some Stoke fans really are the most fickle fans in the country. Sadly, it's these idiots who get the airtime and others follow like sheep, swiftly creating a very negative atmosphere at the club if things go wrong. The idiots hounded Pulis out for the crime of being mid-table in the Premier League, they wrote Hughes off before he even managed a game (although he did turn to shit 4 years later), they wrote Lambert off immediately and after a couple of bad results at the start of the year, the fans who thought they'd romp to the league title and 110 points decided Rowett wasn't the man to take them back to the top flight. If Jones goes there, these Stoke fans will write him off because he's not a big name, and it's a tough crowd to please the city of Stoke on Trent and its people are.

I think they'll go for the big name. Makes no sense to sack a manager with significant knowledge of the Championship for one who has never managed full-time in the top two levels. The fans won't tolerate it either so it'll be a washed up PL manager like Moyes.

Tend to agree. Nathan is an ambitious man who will want to test himself in the higher leagues. If its not Stoke it will be someone else eventually. We, like all clubs of our size, become victims of our own success. Sure we are in a great position in the league, today was also a step in the right direction for the club off the field with the Power Court announcement. We are what we are however a league one club who's longer term aim is to establish ourselves in the Championship. My only hope is that Stoke cannot meet Nathans demands in terms of what he will want to do for their club, which will be a longer term plan. Stoke will be looking for a quick fix which might not be what NJ can offer. Fingers crossed.

For what its worth it doesnt look like any approach from Stoke has been made according to the local BBC Sport commentator.

He doesnt seem the sort that Stoke are looking for to me, he would want time to put his way of doing things across and bring in the type of player he likes, he had that luxury here but not sure Stoke would provide it - wanting some more immediate results this season more than likely.

Got to say though, from the outside looking in I think hed be a good fit for it. Sort of similar situation to when he came and took us i.e. they arent going to get promoted or relegated this season so give him the rest of the season to get his bearings and prepare for next season. Give him a transfer window and a pre season to get them playing like he wants and they would be in good shape I think. Got decent money to back him and bring in his type of player, will absolutely get the players motivated and with his levels of passion and intensity could unite fans of a club that seems to be in a bit of a malaise.

More than happy for them to pass him over for it though!

Unfortunately there's so many reports coming out of Stoke that it's clear there has been contact. Stoke have decided they want Jones, Jones wants to take the job and it's just a matter of sorting the compensation.

Huge loss for Luton and a massive challenge for the board to get the next managerial appointment right.

Seen the bookies are seeming to indicate that would be the case, its moved around all day it seems so some sliver of hope?!

Like i said above, it seems a decent fit for him to me if they are willing to give him this season and the summer to get what he wants.

Very very impressed to be honest - Stanley fans reckon he'll easily cope with Championship football. There have been rumours around the club tonight about PNE's interest but not sure of his contract situation at Middlesbrough.

Other lads who were being possibly being watched by your club were Nick Anderton who ended his loan spell here and has now returned to Blackpool and Dan Barlaser who is on loan still to us from Newcastle.

Interesting that you now have Moult, McGuire and Stockley who have all played for us in the past!

Nathan Jones off to Stoke and Will Grigg possibly off to Sunderland on loan. This has been a bad day for Luton on the pitch! Off it though, great news.

Yes interesting that isn’t it. On the day of the first great piece of off field news after a few years of our plans being thwarted, the great on field progress put in seemingly significant jeopardy after 3 years of consistent progress.

Can’t have both it seems. Trials and tribulations of a lower league football fan I guess.

Do not agree. There is no guarantee that he would take it if offered for reasons already written on this thread.

It’s a done deal, just a matter of compensation for Luton now.

If that's true then this is pretty crappy for Luton fans.

I can kind of understand it - Jones may never get offered a job like this again so may feel that he has to take the leap now. But mid-season in the middle of a promotion challenge is pretty shite whichever way you look at it.

Great opportunity for Jones to prove himself at a bigger club in a higher league after doing so well at Luton, he'll be sacked by next christmas like but he'll be a lot richer.

Sounds promising.

No chance we'll be looking at Anderton, we released the guy and already have two left backs, plus Davies and Woods can fill in there.

From what i've heard the players we were watching were Ripley and your right back, Johnson.

We won't be in the market for another attacking midfielder, so can't see Barlaser being a target for this window.
