I’m a little surprised Norburn is rated so highly by the Shrews management and fans. Blew hot and cold during his spell with us.

I did not think so. He was one of our best players and his passing range was excellent for the Conference. He always looked like he was suited to a higher level.

Suppose it's the time of the year for blind optimism. Highly doubt Shrewsbury will make the play-offs.

Based on what?

Your checkatrade win over us? Your extensive knowledge of league 1 football? Your knowledge of Shrewsbury and how we intend to play or something else entirely before the close season has even been brought to a close? Truth is no one knows where anybody will end up and most teams are still conducting their business. Along with Gillingham I honestly believe we have recruited fantastically well and better than I could have dreamt at the end of last season. The big boys in Pompey and Sunderland are ‘expected’ to do well...Ipswich won’t even be close, the rest are a lottery. I think Oxford will go well myself, I also agree and think we will go well also...if SR can implement the style he wants...there certainly isn’t a lack of experience in either the team or the coaching staff to ensure this doesn’t happen.

I report on Blackpool and have watched 90 odd L1 games in the last two seasons, so I'd say my knowledge of the division is pretty decent.

You seem to base your entire argument on the premise we can't really form an opinion of how any side will do at this stage of the year, yet you go on to say Ipswich won't come close.

You might well improve, and good luck to you, but I highly doubt you'll end up in the top six. Seeing as you only finished two points off the bottom four last season, and a mammoth 21 points off the top six, I'd be highly surprised if you have improved sufficiently to finish above the likes of Portsmouth, Sunderland, Ipswich, Peterborough, Rotherham, Burton, Doncaster and Coventry for a start. And even then I'd be quietly confident Blackpool, Fleetwood and Lincoln will finish above you as well. Nothing personal against Shrewsbury, just an opinion.

Interesting. Arguably Cook, Norwood and Jennings were more influential in getting Rovers back into the FL. While we missed his goals from midfield, overall I’m unsure that he’s a better player than say Perkins or Banks.

We had a few trialists playing in our friendlies. No-one knew most but Michael Harriman was one. Thoughts, mowgli?

Once again Marcus Evans proves to be a tool. A quote from Lambert yesterday.

“Regarding further additions to his squad, Lambert reiterated that all signings will be free transfers: “We can’t buy anybody, that’s the fact of it, but that’s no problem because we have some really good young players here.

“They may need a little bit of help but we can’t go and buy anybody, regardless of what anyone thinks about deals done before my time and the knock-on of money coming in.”

Even after receiving money from % clauses on previous sales (which would have been outside the budget for the year) he still refuses to allow Lambert money to spend. We’ve got an unbalanced side, weak in full backs, wingers and up front.

Explains why we’ve only brought in James Norwood and Tomas Holy... Lambert will do well to get us back up if he’s only able to use the squad he’s got.

Fair do’s. But I think Lincoln will finish at least 10 points behind Shrewsbury imo especially if they are hoping that thug Rhead will score them goals. That said; Payne is a quality signing. And please....Donny had one good season and have since lost their manager. If they are top 10 this year I will eat my shorts. The Ipswich comment was based on the fact they are relying on their youngsters this season and have pretty much said so. I don’t go a lot on previous seasons stats, you may report on Blackpool but do not have the full picture of what is going on at Shrewsbury, complete management overhaul, decent recruitment and lots to be positive about behind the scenes. The point I was making is it is a bold statement to make when many clubs haven’t even concluded their business yet. You could argue that Pompey and Sunderland look weaker than last year at the moment, Sunderland have barely made a signing and Pompey have lost their best CD and will likely lose Jamal Lowe later this week to Leeds. All to play for. I don’t think anyone is a shoe in for the title this season.

Saying that Shrewsbury won’t make the play-offs is no more bold than saying that Shrewsbury will make the play-offs.

Less bold if anything.

Rhead has been far more of a bit part player this last couple of seasons, going up a division will only mean mainly more game time from the bench. He is a useful plan B to go to when needed but I doubt we will see much of him tbh.

I'll make the point again, I find it odd you lambasting me for making a not-so-bold prediction that Shrewsbury won't make the top six just because clubs haven't concluded their business, yet you're able to confidently predict Lincoln will finish at least 10 points behind you? And that's clearly based on a lack of knowledge as our main source of goals is clearly John Akinde (and Bruno Andrade), not Matt Rhead who is a sub. I'm not saying we'll challenge for the play-offs by the way, I don't think we will, but I'm confident we'll be in that clutch of clubs safe in mid-table for the majority of the season.

The boards on here should be much livelier this season after Luton's stranglehold last year. All seven new boys appear to have strong representation (although Bury's may tail off, sadly ).

I wouldn't write Lincoln off that easily. Not the most exciting side to watch, but bloody hard to beat and they have a good, cohesive squad under Cowley. First signing is decent too.

I got the feeling that the side that would do the best after being promoted was the one of the five in the promotion race that didn't come up, Mansfield.

As far a Lincoln goes, they will do well, certainly the best of the promoted sides which isn't saying much in reality as Bury are in dire straights and Tranmere have lost their match winner in Norwood so it only leaves us in a relatively good situation out of the other 3.

Morrell, he was our first new signing. Since then we have signed Jack Payne and Jorge Grant.

This is why I thought Norwood would have been better going elsewhere. He didn’t hit the ground running when first joining Rovers and expectations may be too high given the lack of other signings and that attitude from the Ipswich owner.

The thug is a squad player, Akinde is the focal point of our attack.
Think you're basing your dislike /hatred on that disgusting challenge in the mickey mouse trophy.
We've added three new players Morrell, Payne and Grant plus one of the youth squad.
Think we'll finish midtable.
We scored 73 goals last season in the league and Rhead managed one.

Our chairman has just issued a 18 minute you tube interview on expectations for the season & quashing the rumour mill about some of our players.

Marcus Maddison hasn't travelled to La Manga because he's signing for Sunderland or Hull according to social media , he's actually been having a minor procedure done & is back in training in 7 days time.

FGR have offered derisory money for Matty Stephens who scored 60+ goals in Non League over 2 seasons £25k , ( tut tut )
Ricketts is on trial at Carlisle so he's hopeful of a deal going through , Crewe interested in Callum Cooke , never allowed to play in his favourite 10 position here , met his Grandad ( A Durham man ) away at Bradford & we both agreed this.
Aaron Chapman we've had offers for but below our market ratings.
We've had offers for Ivan Toney ( Sunderland ) I think , who we've dismissed , not for sale.
Matty Godden , Pompey offered £500k , peanuts for a 20 goal a season striker , deal not dead in the water as one of their players could be off to Leeds in next few days leaving them with cash to burn , reckon £650k - £750k could seal the deal .
Coincidentally , John Marquis from Donny has been out in LA Manga ( on holiday ) met up with Fergie , Mason & the Chairman & had some photos done , his Uncle , Cousin & her kids ( if I need to catch the supporters coach for away games ) are on there sometimes , plots thicken !!!

Ah, the annual MacAnthony propaganda machine.

Yep , that's the one , he's hoping he gets enough likes to stroke his ego.

He's been asked numerous times where's Maddison on social media so sometimes I do enjoy his openness .

Who's your team ?

Perkins is a better player, but they are obviously at different stages in their career. I would say Banks has similar ability, although on balance I would probably prefer him to Norburn.

No, he's the clever canny player who EVERY away fan wishes was in their team , especially Mackems :bg:
I wouldn’t want the knob anywhere near my team, in one play off game he went down 3 different times holding his face to try and get our players sent off.
Complete twat.

Yep !

Old people call it cheating .
Young people call it playing the system !

When he gets a yellow for simulation some of our fans ( oldies ) mostly applaud the ref .

Can't argue with his quality, most assists in top 4 divisions over last few seasons .

He could be at Cleethorpes in a few weeks in the friendly as part of the deal that brought League 1's Raheem Sterling to Posh , ohhhhh Sirrrrriiiikkkkii Dembeeeellleee !
