Cov fans, what’s Jordan Ponticelli like? We’ve signed him on loan for the season.

Seems like a strange signing on the face of it.

We keep being linked with Luton's Danny Hylton. Can't see him coming here to be honest for a variety of reasons.

Not been pictured at our pre season training camp in Slovenia so rumours he has not travelled with the squad and therefore by extension might be leaving.

Wasn’t prolific last season but that was due to a few extenuating circumstances in my view. He never really got a run of games with Collins bang in form, us finding a formula with Collins and a pacey option next to him as well as injury and suspension when he did get opportunity.

For me last season for the a large portion of it he didn’t look like he was over a lingering hamstring injury he got toward the end of the promotion from League 2 season.

Noticeable however that when played without Collins, and he was the main man again, he looked something like his old self , so with a solid pre season he could be back to his best.

Coventry fans very surprised he’s joined a league 1 club. Most were expecting him to go out on loan to a VNL club.

Yes, pretty underwhelming. I think our defence and midfield are fine, but our strikers concern me. I think the big hope is that Payne will have one of his good seasons.

When you say one of his good seasons, you realize the highest goals scored he in the league in a season is 11?

Hard to say if Ponticelli is any good or not seeing as he's barely played for us. He absolutely hammers them in at youth level though, feels like he must be one of the highest scorers in the history of our U18s and U23s teams. Surprised he's gone to a League One club, was expecting him to rock up somewhere like Crewe or Port Vale but that's nothing to do with his ability and purely because he's so inexperienced. Looks like he lost a lot of weight over the summer as he was a bit stocky last season, so I reckon that bodes well for you lot at least.

I’m more hoping that Mullin will be given a proper run out as matching last season’s strike rate over the course of a season would easily see him into double figures goals scored. However, it’s a league higher and it was never clear whether he was kept out of last season’s side through being too similar to Norwood or Mellon didn’t fancy him for other reasons.

I also feel we’re lacking in a defensive tackling midfielder. Perkins can tackle but better suited to a role further up the field.

Looks like we'll be signing three more - a striker, left back (probably Coker) and a CB who can also play RB or vice versa.

Things'll no doubt change if we end up selling anyone.

Doesn't seem as though we'll be going with out and out wingers like in previous seasons because they've barely been mentioned as transfer targets so far. There's Andrade (probably be sold) and Anderson already here but aside from Grant being able to play there rather than it being his preferred position, we don't have any options. But in central midfield areas we have lots - Frecklington, O'Connor, Pett, Morrell, Payne, Grant, Chapman (probably go out on loan).

We're nearly done in terms of signings, but haven't really got anywhere with our forward options yet. Evans expects '3 or 4 more', which seeing as our only out and out striker is Brandon Hanlan seems fair. Now that Eaves has DEFINITELY gone, we'll have the money from the contract we offered him to go elsewhere, so expect a bit of movement on that front. Maybe not this week as the squad are away on an intensive training camp, but maybe the weekend or early next week.

Mikael Mandron is one name linked (last at Colchester) who could be an option, but I'd personally like us to go in for Morgan Ferrier at Walsall. Tore us a new one last season and is seemingly on his way out - Coventry mentioned. Imagine the fee would put us off that one.

Having read the same article as you no doubt this morning Luke it was interesting that DC has upped his squad number from 18-20 to at least 22, makes no way could we survive a season with such a small squad. Still think when he made that statement he meant 18-20 pros with some loan players to supplement the contracted players.

Listening to him on the D3D4 podcast earlier made me feel like he always wants a max squad of 22 ideally, but the quality over quantity idea means he’s more flexible and can have a few less if it means they’re all his sort of players.

McCann before he went to Hull was looking at a max 18 squad for us said he didn’t want people not being able to make the match day squad as it caused disharmony and would supplement with the u23 players. No idea what Big D’s philosophy is

We have something like 24 (and Ryan Harley:hb:) so I'm presuming there won't be much more activity on our part now.

Always been his mantra quality over quantity , a lot will now depend on us selling someone.
Not a clue has to who that will be as it's all gone very quiet on that front, no rumours at all.

Rumours our end that Ben Woodburn is close to signing a loan deal with us. Be a hell of a signing if true.

That would probably do, to be honest. Our target this season is to stay up.

Oakley said we're possibly going to bring in 2 or 3 more. We desperately need another striker if we have any ambition this season. Defence is sorted, midfield could do with one or two attack-minded players (along the lines of Hesketh from last season).

Didn't get a look in on loan at the Blades last season. Not easy for a youngster if the first team is doing so well. This could be a go-er if Liverpool want to ensure that he gets plenty of first team football at a reasonable level just down the road. He's still seen as a potentially huge talent by all accounts so could be a great short-term signing.

Presumably just not good enough as surely he would be looking at another Championship loan?

Sceptical about any prospect of Woodburn coming to Rovers. However the player is keen on dropping down to get regular first team action rather than being a bit-part with a Championship side to aid his development.

There definitely seem to have been conversations between the two clubs. However, he is on £25,000 a week, so we would need some significant financial help from Liverpool for him to come here.

They werent all Trialists there were about 5/6 who were at the club last season. No media were allowed in the ground for the game and some were moved away from the ground before the game whilst doing their reports.
