Lovely stuff. :2thumb:
Not bothered about a local derby next season then!

I would like to see Plymouth, Exeter and Swindon come up, personally. Perhaps Col U through the POs.

The relegation candidates from the Championship, don't look so interesting, unless Charlton implode.

We seem to be destined for mid table, as most of the rumours about signings are just that.

Jerry Yates has been recalled by Rotherham. That really fucks up our promotion charge now!

Its probably just to take a look at him for a couple of weeks.

Maybe we are hoping you will buy him?

Hopefully he'll be back with Swindon soon, he deserves to play.

Or maybe you have other suiters looking to buy him. I doubt very much we can afford it. I hope he comes back, bit of a nuisance as with both Doyle and Yates recalled we are now relying on a youngster up front. The risks you run when reliant on loan strikers I guess!

Paul Warne usually does the Radio Sheffield interview on Thursday.
I'll post whatever he says regarding young Jerry.

It would likely mean us foregoing 6 points but it is amusing.

Edit: We've signed George Thorne permanently until the end of the season after his mutually agreed release by Derby. He has had a dislocated shoulder but is supposed to be fully fit now. If we can keep him fit, which is the big question, then we have a quality player.

2nd edit: According to Forest Green's local news site, Robbie Hall is joining them to the end of the season.

After Hopper, which should be done before the weekend, it sounds like the only other incoming will be a CB as we only have 2 available ones (Bostwick still out for another month or so).

Then it's a case of finalising, or trying to get, moves away for Pett, Coker and Payne. MA's said that we'll probably be down to 3 strikers by the end of January. That leaves either Walker or Akinde leaving - there have been rumours over Akinde all January and it seems Forest don't have a straight forward recall over Walker and have to negotiate a fee pay with us to take him back so the former is the logical one as he's someone we can get a fee for and also a higher earner.

3 strikers? What are they? We are still hoping to sign one as we haven’t had one since Marquis left in the summer

You's definitely are in for Humphrys from us came out in local paper now..
If you offer enough money he will definitely be sold but it will leave us with two teenagers as strikers. Next Tuesday history could repeat itself 7-1.

To be fair it’s been reported in the local Shrewsbury rag and from their CEO that we are after a player from them but we aren’t. We will have asked about both players availability but unless we fail in getting our main targets I don’t see us going in for either before the summer

Tom Hopper confirmed on a 3½ year deal (been a while since we handed out a 3½ one!).

Southend's end seem to be saying £150k, national press were suggesting £100k but local haven't said anything yet. No doubt it'll come out soon.

Best of luck to Tom Hopper, shame he had a relegation release clause.

In better news Rob Kiernan is off to America. Even though it leaves us with just 3 fit defenders that is wonderful news.

I doubt they'll be any kind of fee for Humphrys, just take over his contract and I reckon Southend will be happy.
We are in fire sale mode, everything can go and for bargain prices.

Don't be sorry, best thing that has happened all season. Getting rid of these wasters has been far easier than I think any of our fans could have imagined.
If we don’t get anyone in which I genuinely think there’s a strong chance of there’s going to be some interesting score lines and attendances at the Hall this spring

I'm not sure the Cowleys ever played to his strengths so we never really saw the best of him. He was used as a lone striker/target man, which despite his size, really isn't his strongest suit. As a result I dont think we ever saw the best of him, or indeed what most of us expected. He did well despite that, and was key to us going up last year. His last game he also looked great, scored two late on from the bench.

He has his weaknesses - his touch can be pretty poor and he seems unable to strike a ball cleanly and with any power on a regular basis, and I'm not sure if he ever got over the serious injury he had at Barnet. He appears to have lost a bit of pace and composure maybe. That said, he could well thrive in a system that suits him better. His penalties are excellent, if you get used to his interesting technique.

From a business perspective it's hopefully a good deal for us - some cash recouped (think he may have been our record signing) and serious wages saved (again, think he might well have been our biggest earner).

I think unless Walker gets recalled we will probably stick with the 3 strikers for the rest of the season.

What can we expect from Hopper?
110% effort. He will do the dirty work and score 90% of his goals inside the opponents 6 yard box a proper number 9. He looked like a 20 goals a season before doing his ACL last year come back this season into the worst side ever but still he can leave with his head held high. Would’ve been a certain keep hold of if it wasn’t for the release clause.

Looks like we've got Akinde, just waiting on the official announcement.

Confirmed that Rob Hall has gone on loan to Forest Green until the end of the season.

The surprising bit is he has signed a new contract for next season with us. I can only assume Robinson sees this loan as a way of getting him back to where he was before his latest injury issues. I also hope the contract is mostly appearance fee based.

Interested to see how Akinde gets on before I get too excited, but it's another option up front.

He's one I've wanted us to sign in the past as he has scored a few against us but not that excited about the signing now as I dont think he is anywhere near the player he was 5 years ago.

Hopefully he can hit the ground running as i can see some of our fans getting on his back quickly if he dont start scoring straight away

He'll suit an Evans team more than he will an Appleton one, so it's a good move for all parties. Evans gets his expensive, experienced player, which historically he's liked, we get a fee and probably a top 3 earner from our squad and Akinde is back down south.

Last season we played him as a lone, back to goal striker, who ran the channels a bit which wasn't really his strength and was why he scored so few from open play (scored 17 last season but 12 were penalties). He said himself that he prefers to play in a two, so do that and you'll probably get more use out of him. Don't be fooled into thinking he's a target man because of his size, though, because he isn't. Technically short of L1 level IMO but physically he'll cause problems and occupy defenders and create space for others.

Ironically enough, his last few performances from the bench were more in keeping what was expected from him. He was a scapegoat here for a minority because, for the rumoured fee and wages. They were expecting a 25 goal a season striker who could turn on the style and win a game off a piece of individual brilliance and ultimately expecting things from him that he couldn't do. The majority realised he sacrificed parts of his game to help the team. He was being willed on to do well but ultimately I don't think too many will be fussed about him departing.

He's not the Akinde of his Alfreton and Barnet days, though.

EDIT - His time here was summed up in his final game against Bolton. Comes on, misses a sitter, sets one up and sprints from the halfway line to score one himself, which is something we rarely saw. Also, we were top of L2 nearly all of last season so the opposition packed the defence, which probably didn't help his cause either.
