I'm guessing a 3 year deal is potentially in lieu of a higher basic wage in the event of things returning to 'normal'

Surprised at the length of contract, but as Luke says, it’s not easy getting that balance between too short or too long a contract.

MA is a good coach and judge of young players so I hope James Jone‘s injury problems have cleared and he becomes a very good addition.

After our 5-0 reverse on Saturday, our chances of dropping back down have increased somewhat which is clearly disastrous in the current circumstances.

So how are teams managing to prepare for next season? Apparently Sep 12 is the date where the season may start, but reports in the last few days claim that it could be in the latter part of August, meaning teams could be back in training in the next week or 2. Whatever happens, it needs to be decided this week I'd argue.

How are teams signing players without this information? And without any salary cap information?

MacAnthony has previously said they will do their upmost to get promoted next season and will no doubt spend, spend, spend. They've sold less than 2500 season tickets - we've sold nearly double that so far.

It was hinted that this week we could find more information about getting fans into stadiums. Surely it's difficult to restart any football at this level without any sort of crowd?

I’m finding the whole argument against fans attending matches hard to swallow given that it’s ok to be crammed on a plane which is a bug breeding ground for 4+ hours but can’t be in an open stadium for 2?

Seems we offered Jones a 1 year deal with a clause saying if he played in a certain amount of games, he'd be given an automatic 1 year extension.

Can't believe Lincoln have given him 3 years. And I do like the lad and he was great before his move to PNE fell through. I wish him nothing but the best. But 3 years for a player with his injury record at League One level is quite something.

As Timey says, he was a squad player if he remained with us and I've long said since the season ended I wanted us to cut ties with him because I want Finney, Lundstram and potentially a new signing to get more gametime. Jones has had 6 seasons in the first team now. His time has come and gone and it's time for someone else to step up to the plate. We weren't getting a fee for him and he just wasn't fit enough to start for us every week. It's a win-win for all parties. The club gets his decent wage packet off the books, the young lads get more gametime in midfield and Lincoln get a player who needs a fresh challenge and will give them 100% and will be a good signing for them if he stays fit. Everyone's a winner in my eyes.

You lot will obviously know better than me, but circa 60 L1 appearances in two seasons as an 18/19 year old doesn't seem *that* bad? You can see where he had his injury because he only made a handful of appearances that season but he's a fairly experienced young player. Nearly 200 appearances at 24 isn't bad going.

Seem a half decent signing anyway. The first of a major re-build this summer.

Looks like we’re trying hard for Jerry Yates. Offering good, if surprising, fee for him.

What did Tom Pett do for Appleton to tell him to train away from the first team? Apparently, we’re interested - again.

I think they were just rumours. All the players who were free to leave - Payne, Freck, Pett, Coker - were all still involved in first team training. There were always photos and videos of them there on social media.

There was no fallout or anything, Appleton just didn't fancy him (probably didn't help his cause when, in his first appearance under him he cost us a goal at Posh). You can't fall out with someone like Pett, he's just too nice and likeable. Not sure he's a L1 player though but a solid L2 one. Would've liked to have seen him get more game time last season, mind.

Was excellent for the promotion season especially pre Xmas but didn't score after Xmas but was still an important member of the squad (the game at mk dons he was superb ) but got injured in preseason and barely featured under Appleton after regaining fitness.
Sure he'd do a job in league one if given a chance.

How much are you hearing down there?

I hope the lad gets his move and TBH I can't see Warney/Stewart putting a price on his head that will be too ridiculous.

Almost certainly not up front. I’d imagine it’s one of those ‘various elements’ kind of transfers.

£1 up front the rest dependent on getting an England cap!:woo:

Pompey have released a few players today. Burgess was already going to Belgium but Matt Casey, Adam May, Oli Hawkins and Brett Pitman are the names who are gone.

I'm almost certain Pitman will be picked up be a League One club and so long as he is fit, he'll be good enough. I expect Hawkins to drop down a division with the other two ending up in non-league.

Hawkins would be such an ideal signing for us, seeing as he can play up front or as a centre half.

His goal return wasn't bad either, I see he didn't score this season, did you guys play me more in defense this season?

Would like Pitman, if only to stop him scoring against us!

AFC Wimbledon are apparently the League 1 club who are in for our right back Cheye Alexander.

We announced last week that he's off to L1. I think he's far too suspect defensively for this level but probably OK as backup.

The Cowleys were big fans Hawkins are about to sign him when chose Portsmouth instead in 2017.
Wonder if we will go after him again with Appleton in charge, maybe not?

No he was injured for a good chunk of this season and just had too many other strikers ahead of him in the pecking order. He'd be a good target man signing for any club in League 2.

We're desperately short of centre backs so I'm not surprised the Monthe rumours have returned.

A bit left field but we've announced the signing of centre half Lewis Montsma from Dutch second division side FC Dordrecht. 6ft3 and also a model. Signs on a 3 year deal.

Last Dutch player for us must be Gisjbert Bos?

Very left field. Montsma is 22, it looks like MA is trying to get a much younger squad together this season.

Still remember Gijsbert scoring at Maine Road to win against Man City, one of my favourite all time away trips ever that night.

Yes somewhere around there 6 5 from memory, really nice fella but him and Beck quickly fell out as he wanted Bos to be the target man but despite being very tall he was the best in the air much better with the ball at his feet.

Quite a night that, around 14,000 there with at least 2,000 from Lincoln, me and couple of mates managed to blag our way into their social club, £1.20 from memory.
The game at Southampton in the next round was pretty good too.

Signed just in time for the new kit reveal!

Very left field, I don't think we've delved into the Dutch second division too many times. Looks like he's very much in the ball playing mould but let's hope he can defend as well.

Not a new signing but James Coppinger has signed a new one year deal which will be his last year in professional football, absolute legend and I hope we are allowed to attend games and give him the send off he thoroughly deserves
