Yeah the PFA, as with just about every institution in football to be quite frank needs some reform at the top, but they seem to have fulfilled some purpose during the current crisis as we had to go through them to get the players to take a wage deferral (which I think is perfectly correct in my view given the purpose of the union)

Id argue that the owners in proposing the cap are kind of showing a bit of a disregard for the future of football and there clubs as well. Its a headline grabbing rule that is short termist, potentially catastrophically so, and fails to hold the owners themselves to account for their poor running of clubs. If they really cared we would have genuine reform of club ownership and the requirements and burdens put on them being on the table, not just salary caps.
a lot of things do need to change in football and existing rules and regs also need to be enforced properly.

Not a lawyer but I would be highly surprised at that being the case. Collection of business coming together to fix the price of there main source of labour. No way the PFA (or indeed any union worth there salt) aren’t taking that through the courts. The EFL aren’t exempt from basic employee protection laws.

It’s like the countries airlines coming together and agreeing not to pay there pilots more than X amount. BALPA would be all over them like a rash.

Well, it seems to work in American sports and here in Oz, where NRL, AFL and football all operate with a cap. AFL is a set cap across the board (with minor variations) as well I believe.

Different laws for a start and I can’t speak for NRL or Aussie Rules but I know the American sports those deals are collectively bargained between those specific player unions and the MLB/NFL. That’s not what is happening here where a cap is being unilaterally put in place by the owners of the clubs.

It’s also somewhat different as most of those sports have only 1 or 2 other leagues for those players to play in - so there is much less leverage on the individual player level than here. In football you’ll get players going to leagues in Europe, or probably just Scotland or even some money club in the NL as it’s bizarrely just leagues 1 and 2 intent on doing this, the quality of the lower leagues in this country will drop as a result and the PL and Championship become close shops.

The American leagues are all franchise systems as well so the economics of the market are entirely different.

Can I ask where you've seen this? We've been told that players signed now (before its voted in) will count fully towards the total allowed budget, even though that sounds ludicrous.

players signed before the cap is introduced will count towards the maximum budget but only at the leagues average salary which includes wages, taxes, bonuses, agent fees but excludes things like promotion and cup bonuses. It’s up to the individual club if they wish to include the full satay rather than the average before 30 July.
Relegated clubs existing players will be exempt from the cap apparently due to the higher divisional salaries.

it means that if someone has signed a player for £5k a week before the vote they will be counted at whatever the average wage of a L2 player is (say £2k) and not at the £5k figure. Possibly why someone like Bolton getting big value wages sorted out early.
Spot on

Yeah, I’m not saying Kieran is wrong, because he’s usually spot on - but he’s definitely been wrong before but I’d need better confirmation to say that’s true.

Unless owner injections is via sponsorship, which we know about (hence why every says ‘One Call’ at the mill. You can’t put in interest free loans like in the conference.
Under Salary Cap Management Protocol, which currently is in force in Leagues 1 & 2, owners can put in as much as they like, as long as it is not in the form of loans.
It can be in the form of equity and is classed as fortune income of which 100% can be spent on wages and players.
In other words, owners can gift money to the club but not lend it to the club.
Interestingly, there is no limit on losses in Leagues 1&2, unlike the championship.

We've also signed Sam Nicholson ( Winger ) Ex Colorado Rapids & Hearts. Hearts tred to re sign but it seems we blew them out of the water with the deal offered. Time now to dispose of Bennetts services one way or another.

So based on the new salary cap, how are the likes of Bolton going to comply based on their contracted player Doyle using up a sixth of their yearly budget on just his basic salary.

Well it’s not, really. He will be counted as if his salary is the average player salary under the supposed L2 cap. I’d estimate that that would be somewhere between 5-10% of a club’s total cap.

Looks an exciting winger. Any others teams gonna join us in signing players?

No idea. Wellens seemed sure he’d sign for us but that was before Blackpool upped their original offer. £200,000 just about the max id say he’s worth.

As with Doyle, it will be interesting to see how they get on in teams with a different system to Wellens.

Dominic Samuel being rumoured as a replacement.

D.Samuel has been mentioned on our forum today too as a possible signing....

You never know he may be partial to roundabouts :bg:

Do Blackpool have good backing then? Looking like CJ to them is near a done deal.

Don’t get cocky mate, not at the moment.
I appreciate that you lot are excited due to your sugar daddy, and good luck to you, but most of us are genuinely worried that we may not have a club to support in 6 months time.
It will only take one set back and no fans in the ground in October and many clubs, even well run ones like ours will be in very real danger of going under.
So no, most clubs won’t be joining you in splashing the cash. Not at the moment.

yeah just realised - we won't be on this part til next season ;)
then again at least the Northampton fans will see it any realise the alleged £150k bit for him won't get them anywhere....

Interesting, any concrete link to that or just some random EFLtwitterAGENTitk page?

not sure where it originally came from- but has been on our forum for a few days

Cant see anything concrete. Doesn’t really stack up as Curle constantly talks about ‘good housekeeping’ at the moment and we released a couple of players we should have kept due to it.

Good player though have seen him a couple of times, but god he’s selfish

Blackpool giving CJ practically a four year deal too, I think they are banking on him making themselves money down the line too.

I take it he's a decent player. Rovers starting to look quite strong squad wise. Looking to bring in another 5 players in the next few weeks.
Indeed you are. But did you not lose your manager last year because he felt there was not enough investment? Do you have the funding to offer three year contracts when I suspect few other clubs are? Are you over reaching yourselves and could be another Bury, Bolton or Southend? Or do you have rich owners with deep pockets so match day income is not important? To me, getting lots of players in does not make economic sense.

Our club owner has said twice now in fans forums that he would prefer that any cap was linked to resources/income rather than a flat sum. But he has also said he recognises that there may need to be a flat sum to stop a lot of clubs going bust. What our CEO said was “we would prefer a cap is linked to resources, but we also recognise we want to play other sides next year.” Hence why I asked how some clubs, like Rovers who seem to be splashing the cash this off season can afford to do so.

AFC Wimbledon sign Barnet right back Cheye Alexander.

Don't think he's L1 standard personally but good luck to him.

I'll try and answer your questions to the best of my ability. 1. Regarding the manager ( GC ) Yes i believe he was told that but i believe there were significant reasons why. He was getting good results on the pitch but by god it was bloody awful to watch. He was'nt thought of as the man to take us forward. 2. With regards to funding -- You must have seen where our owner has come into quite a large amount on the death of his father. So yes we have acted with regards to that in strengthening the squad early and writing off all the clubs debts. We are also actively building a new state of the ark training centre as i write and are in negotiations for a site for the new ground. So i would think our owners are fairly rich. Of course it can all go tits up as have happened at clubs in the past -- But something tells me ( hopefully ) it won't happen to us. 3. When does "Economic sense " matter ? When a club is half way through a season and in the bottom three ? .I don't know. One thing i do know is the Third division is going to be really competitive next season and without a decent squad clubs will struggle. But i take your point -- Better to have a club playing in some capacity than no club at all.
