Charlie Brown joins from Chelsea on a permanent contract. Top striker through the age groups since being signed from Ipswich as a 16 year old. Assume that this is the Carton Morris replacement and will share 2nd striker duties with Ste Walker.

Looks like he’s more the Walker replacement than the Morris one now after Wlaker’s return to Boro. hes been given the no’ 11 shirt, leaving Morris’s no’ 9 still on the peg. Might be reading too much into it, though :)

We've brough Mickel Miller in on loan from Rotherham. I think Keith's been chasing him for years, as he's popped up as a rumour in a few transfer windows now. Another due in 10 more minutes.

Rotherham fans seem to like him, which is good news I guess, because it's very evident that we're lacking any sort of attacking threat at the moment.

Second signing is Ryan Edmondson on loan from Leeds. Another Striker, so real questions where they're supposed to be fitting in unless we're finally giving up on the cursed 3-5-2. Harry Smith is rumoured to be off, a few League One and Two names are mentioned, but that still leaves us with 5 Strikers including Caleb, 1 wing-back and 1 1/2 centre midfielders who are up to this standard. Some odd choices for where to reinforce unless Keith is certain they can make a big different to the standard of players we have.

He looked ok earlier in the season but injuries forced Warne into a change of formation using wing backs.
He can't play there so consequently has had very few minutes since.

I'm sure he will do a good job for you and it gives him league 1 experience ready for us next year.

21 year old LB/LWB Adam Lewis signed on loan from Liverpool. Seems small but good crosser.

Sounds as though Brennan Johnson will remain with us for the rest of the season, which is huge really. What a player.

I didn't think Forest would recall him anyway but they did us over last season with Walker. It appears that all our loans have recall deadlines by the weekend.

Considering we also only player Wing-backs, and it's why we're looking to shift on Holmes, Adams, Marshall and all the other wingers in our team, I'm not really sure what Keith's plan here with it is? I guess we'll find out in the next few games - Hopefully we bin the 3-5-2 off because we're woeful at providing any entertainment with it.

Andrew Surman's short term contract has been extended until the end of season and if the rumoured permanent signing of Warren O'Hora gets done then it's already been brilliant business for a January window. Interesting that the number 9 shirt is still vacant and we will have spare loan spots available so it may be that there is one more inbound to get the fanbase enthused. It's possible that we may need to move on some out of favour squad residents (I'm looking at you Kieron) or cash in on one of the highly rated youngsters to keep within the salary cap before making a 'statement' signing. Despite our lowly position, I'm really confident in making good progress up the league in the 2nd half of the season (apart from this weekend of course).

Looks like Leeds will be recalling Robbie Gotts and sending him to Salford.

Not really nailed down a place with us and has been used as a back up RB. Think Leeds see him as a CM and I think he played twice there without pulling up any trees. Will expect Gotts will be replaced by another loan.

The loanee we'll miss the least. Came in as a CM who could cover RB yet whose better performances were actually at RB.

Leaves us with no RB cover but frees up another loan slot and/or we have a summer target coming in this month ahead of next season (like we did last season with Scully, Hopper, Edun etc last January).

You’re in the wrong section.

We’ve signed Olly Lee who we’ve previously had on loan, decent enough.

Josh Parker to Burton from us on a free. I barely saw him play to be honest, I don't get to many games and he only featured in one of the ones I saw (he only got 22 apps total with us, having signed in 2019).

I guess Gills fans would be able to give a better assessment of his abilities as he got a lot more game time with them.

Perry Ng on his way out of the club, Cardiff lost their RB to injury and so I'm assuming they've come back at us with an improved bid.

Good man and good player but we're now well stocked in that department. All the best to him but we move on with Travis Johnson and Luke Offord more than capable in that position.

Zack Elbouzedi has gone to Bolton on loan until the end of the season. We're stacked with wide players and could probably do with sending another one out as well later in the transfer window. He's not going to get ahead of Scully, Anderson, Johnson, Rogers or Grant so that one makes sense, although he's done well this season when called upon but he needs a good run of games.

He's the fourth one gone already after Ethan Ross (GK, Weymouth, loan), Alex Bradley (CM, Yeovil, free) and Robbie Gotts (CM/RB, recalled by Leeds and gone to Salford on loan). With Aaron Lewis told he can leave and arguably could sacrifice one of our three who can play at LB then we're really slimming down an already small squad.

Be surprised if we didn't have things lined up. Feels like there's a plan to it all rather than random departures that you can't understand the thinking behind.

Scottish media reporting today that we're interested in Hibernian RB Tom James on a permanent basis. Has 18 months left on his contract but, as Dave Artell said, we're in our strongest financial position for years and are about to get £350,000 for Perry Ng from a Championship club (expected to be Cardiff as said earlier.). Wigan also want to retain his services on loan but, having just signed Tendayi Darikwa to play RB, James could feel his opportunities there are limited.

With only 6 appearances for the Hibees in 18 months, I feel Hibs want him off the books permanently. Could be a case of the player struggling to settle in Scotland because he's done well for Wigan at League One level. Given they're skint though and we could well have some cash to spend now the Hassall era is long gone, I'd fancy us to sign him over Wigan if our interest is concrete.

With the signing of James, it'd allow Offord and Beckles to focus on being CBs and, with the returning Donervon Daniels and young Billy Sass-Davies, will leave us well stocked in the CB department for next season even if we release Olly Lancashire. Would mean it'd be a case of signing an LB in the Summer when Pickering departs and our defence would look strong going into next season.

If it was down to me, I wouldn't sign another RB to play as first choice. Certainly not permanently - I guess there's more of a case to bring one in on loan for the rest of the season but Johnson and Offord have been fine and there's a lot more to come from Johnson.

I'd also like to see Adebisi been given a run as first choice LB once Pickering goes - I know he's young and inexperienced (and had a few injuries in the last year or so) but he's looked good when he has played. We've got Woodthorpe waiting behind him too. I can see the merits in bringing in someone with more experience though.

I personally want Offord to focus solely on CB as if we're going to make any money from him, it'll be from that position. Travis is a very young lad and, if he progresses like we all think we will, we're likely to have him till the end of the 2024-25 season unless he does so well that we move him on earlier than that. To put that into perspective, Perry only became a regular in the 2017-18 season upon the departure of Ollie Turton despite making his debut two seasons before that.

There's a bright future for Travis at the club and he'll absolutely be getting game time over the next few years, but I feel he needs to compete with a natural experienced RB for the starting role over the next 2 years. Travis is yet to be offered a significant contract unlike Offord but I feel he'll be given a 2 year extension in the Summer. However, we can't rely on Offord being the backup RB because it'll leave us short at CB if Travis went down injured. So this move would make absolute sense if there's any truth in it.

There's a big likelihood next season that, if Pickering is sold and Lancashire leaves as we expect him to, we could have 8 defenders in our first team with 4 being products from the academy and 4 being signings from elsewhere. For a club that doesn't particularly develop defenders as well as other positions, I'd say that's very encouraging!

As for young Woodthorpe, think he'll be loaned to non league at the earliest possible convenience to get game time before he comes anywhere near a claim for a first team spot. It's such a shame that because of COVID, he hasn't had the loan out to Nantwich or Witton Albion that he probably would've got in normal seasons. Because those clubs have been brilliant to players like Offord and Owen Dale in recent years.

Yeah, I agree. I guess it all depends on how ready Johnson and Adebisi actually are for regular football. I trust that Artell won't do anything to harm their development so I'm sure he'll make the right call either way.

Nothing for us until later this week and into the following week according to MA.

Hoping to have Grant's contract decision sorted by the end of the month but he'll definitely not be sold this window.

Signed Harvey White on loan from Spurs. 19 box to box midfielder with a good left foot. Will be backup, but Bryn Morris going out of loan so replacement for him and gives us abit of depth in midfield. Spurs fans rate him but we'll see

Hull seem to have recruited well with the loan signings of Whyte and now Crowley, they have also extended the contract of Lewis Potter, not sure how they have managed all those plus their existing squad within the salary cap but they'll be strong for the rest of the season.

Thanks Northampton for taking Bryn Morris from us. Has to be one of the candidates for one of our worst ever players and there is shit loads of competition for that dishonour!

And Flores, but they'll manage it through departures. De Wijs already gone. and would have been one of the top earners, Samuelsen on his way to Norway soon, maybe Batty also on his way out. Would expect as many departures as arrivals.
