Scott Twine has turned down our (almost certainly pitiful) contract offer and is signing for the Franchise.
Good signing for MK. If they keep Fraser aswell they will be a decent play off shout.

I'd wager that Fraser is off, but we've still got excellent midfield options even without those that were offered new deals a month ago.

A great signing yet again from us. I'd be very surprised if we weren't up there challenging at the end of the season.

This is a very interesting one. A lot of championship teams were chasing him in recent months... I thought he would’ve joined us. Maybe we weren’t interested after all.

It sounds more like our recruitment team and manager have persuaded him to come here than some championship sides or traditionally bigger league 1 sides with the project we’re building. The same happened with Fraser last season and since then we’ve had a year showing off football that is being raved about by wider audiences.

Potentially relevant info to this.

But one of these analytics types who follows us did a review of him in January when we first got linked to him, posted it on Twitter and asked for feedback on it. Someone responded to him (paraphrasing here) saying that he’s a good player who is promising but not championship quality yet and not ready to make the step up. The week after that person got hired by us in the recruitment department, so make of that what you will in terms of our interest.

I think it’s a great signing for MK, wouldn’t have minded us going for it as we’ve a huge Dewsbury-Hall sized gap to fill in creative terms.

Interesting week since the window reopened.....Seems a few teams like Portsmouth are rebuilding
Some like Wigan are losing there better players
Ipswich look like they are going to be the biggest spenders........Bolton doing there business early and WILL finish top half with the squad they have today. Other teams are watching from the side lines to see whats available
Going to be a interesting summer

You think he'd turn down the chance to move up a league and more money because you do some nice passing?

I'm going to say it's more likely that he didn't have a Championship offer.

I‘d say that the presence of Luke Williams (who gave him his debut at Swindon) and their goalkeeping coach Dean Thornton on our staff had some sway.

Also, we’ve long been renowned as a club that won’t stand in a player‘s way if the right offer comes in. Thats been a factor for all our young signings this last year, I’m sure. Knowing we won’t screw them over if the right offer comes in. We may just be a stepping stone, but so were Brentford at this level five or six years ago. Sell your best couple of players for incrementally increased amounts every year and replace with younger players with more potential. Your coaching needs to be spot on, and you need to have great recruitment casting the net far & wide*, but it’s the only way to progress if you don’t have deep pockets in this league.

*-that’s my only concern. We’re still only looking in the UK, and maybe post Brexit the opportunity to look further afield is drastically reduced.

We're being linked, along with Portsmouth, with a loan move for WBA's U21 'keeper Josh Griffiths. Was on loan at Cheltenham last season and kept a lot of clean sheets. Thoughts, Si Robin?

Lloyd Jones confirmed on a two year deal. It seems we beat league one and two clubs to his signature so looks like a good bit of business.

I will give you my view for what its worth only 19 but a quality keeper....Kept the most clean sheets in lge 2
Will be quite a few clubs in for him

He was laughably bad against us last season - the worst keeping performance against us all season.

It was the same with a few gks against us. I thought Vigouroux had a shocker in one of them against us especially his kicking but a few saying he’s a top gk for the league. The real stand out gk for me in league 2 last season was Hladky. Looked like he should be playing at a much higher level.

Hladky seemed a bit mad against us, but I don't think he had a lot to do. The only keeper that stood out was Jamie Cumming for Stevenage on the opening day of the season! On loan from Chelsea, I imagine he'll want to be in a higher division.

He's going to be a top keeper one day, but don't be fooled by the 19 clean sheets - he had an extremely good defence in front of him.

He's a great shot-stopper, but some of his mistakes I'd have been disappointed had they been made by my u10s keeper. Beaten from over 100 yards by the Newport keeper and his mistake against Grimsby still gives me nightmares now.

For such a big lad, he really doesn't command his box. He stays rooted to his line and is bit of a flapper on the occasions he leaves it.

The big positive though is that all of the things he's weak on can be taught. He's got bags and bags of natural ability, but we've been linked with re-signing him since the season ended and I've been dreading him coming back.

Yeah there were a few young premier league Gks that looked handy last season. I’m pretty happy with Gilks though tbh. He’s probably not as good a gk as he was and possibly not as good as some of the others in terms of statistics but his organising of the defence through a game is incredible. It’s like having a manager on the pitch. Never seen anything quite like it.

Doesn't sound as good as Alex Palmer then, although he's 5 or 6 years younger so to be expected. I was hoping we'd get Palmer back but I'd be surprised if he wasn't in and around the WBA first team or at the very least getting Championship game time.

Palmer was, first and foremost, a good shot stopper. You don't get that many teams in L1 who'll cross/get the ball in the box as quickly or as often as in L2 so he probably won't be tested as much in that respect.

if we can get a new decent confident keeper in. Gilks can learn him how to organise his defence like he does.
Gilks only signed a new one year deal today.......Would have given him the same 3 year coaching deal as Evatt
As you say not many can organise a defence like Gilks and if i was a Premier or Championship manager looking for a quality keeper coach i would head hunt him

It’s a 1 year playing contract, I bet there are coaching clauses in there to extend and he’ll make a decision next season if he carries on playing again. He’d be on less money as a coach than a player I would assume. But a young gk to learn from him would be ideal

Think we are lucky to have him as a coach, but i would look to get a new long term keeper in this close season

We signed a keeper today, so Dixon is on his way out. Bolton the only team linked with him - I can see him joining and playing second fiddle to Gilks for a season. I think he's 27 now, so he'd have to have assurances he'll be number one eventually.

Do you think he’s good enough to step up? I can’t see him being number 1 this season like you say

It's hard to say - he's been dependable in National League North, National League, and League 2, so why not? I suppose if you're a good shot stopper, you can do that at any level. Like all keepers he'll make an occasional mistake, but the older he's got, the less they seem to phase him.

Vigouroux, a top League One keeper? The bloke is an absolute fucking clown and his arse went every time he played against us for Swindon.

Evatt saying he’s hopeful Declan John will be done this week despite other offers. He was fantastic on loan. Very happy if we get it over the line.

I think the way you play and the fact his development at STFC must have coincided with Luke Williams must have played a factor. It will be interesting to seen how he does in L1 next season with a properly run, forward thinking club.

Yes I do, over the last 6 months+ players have come here directly because of the style of play. Now that the salary cap is gone we've got more room to flex there as well given we almost halved our wage expenditure in a matter of months last season, so if he's to be a star player then we could both offer good compensation as well as a good wage. Join all that with the added playtime he'd get here rather than in the Championship and a management staff that he knows really well from his time as a youth player and making his debut then I can definitely see why he'd turn down being a squad player in a higher league for us at this early stage in his career.

He mentioned both Williams and Dean Thornton in his interview so I definitely think they helped.

It finally seems like we've replaced the sorely missed Andy King in the scouting department and have some competency there for the first time in half a decade, it's definitely a good time to support a fake plastic club
