His agent clearly fucked up the moves to the big clubs which is why he supposedly sacked him. Left with fuck all on the table Wrexham have got interested and he's gone to the highest bidder.

My initial reaction was it's bizarre, it is, but if they're paying him more than we offered him (almost certainly) and giving him 3 years of security on it, I suppose you can't blame him.

You can’t blame him for going back two leagues? I wouldn’t really call it a good career move either, and as for the money, it’s obviously a shed load of cash they are spending over the three years.

I can't blame him for taking the money, no. He won't give a toss about ambition in 20 years if he earns enough to live a comfortable retirement whenever that time comes.

From what I gather we made him a very very good offer. Something beyond we normally do but he turned it down in hope the big boys were coming.

Whether that's down to his agents demands we will never know but the fact he sacked him speaks volumes. It's very sad he's ended up in the conference cushioned by what I can imagine is the best paid player in conference history.

I just hope they have a fantastic target man to play with and a wizard in midfield like Hoolahan. If not, god help him.

It'd be refreshing if he says 'this fucking clueless Canadian actor has given me shitloads and I probably wasn't good enough for L1 anyway, so i've come down here to take the piss.'

That can’t be right, it doesn’t say he has signed for Bolton!
We could have signed him last season and this. Evatt not sure about him and we had to offload, to bring another in as it stands. We then got a injury to Amaechi who we signed on loan from Hamburg. Politic has been out 12 months and then went into isolation and will play his first game in 12 months tomorrow at Barrow so Evatt has now turned his priority to bringing another winger in

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.
well documented that he was offered to Bolton last season
just put it in your search engine................I have it on good Authority that we was interested but Bakayoka has given Evatt options up front.

Your laughing at me and your star player in the last 20 years left you for the pop and crisp league.

Fair enough

Fair enough.

I've seen much better players wear the shirt over the last 20 years. He got the headlines because of the goals he got.

I'm laughing because you never know when to stop digging.

Fair enough Mullin will never be the player Hoolihan is
At the end of the day i think Evatt will pull 2 Marquee players out of the hat that will get us there or there about.

Most clubs will have smaller squads this year so there will be a surplus of players for the first time since the Bosman ruling clubs will have the slightly upper hand in negotiations

Or Luke Berry for that matter. He is a lockdown legend but certainly not the star player of the last 20 years.

What positions do you think these marquee signings need to be in?

Fair play to Paul Mullin. The guy has had 1 good season and is now getting paid a shed load for the next 3 years.

Not convinced about Dixon [gk] Gilkes is a good Organiser but i think it may be a season too far.
Right back is another Jones/Brockbank are decent no better.
Out and out Striker for me to give Doyle competition .........Ellis Simms on loan will do for me

Evatt wont go for another keeper and i think he may go with what he has at right back.

A winger and a forward are what he has hinted at

Maybe you were in for Mullin but couldn't guarantee him starts so he looked elsewhere. I can't imagine Bakayoka is the preferred option over Mullin.

Bakayoka is the other option over Doyle......Pace power over finesse
Bakayoka done ok/well in pre season and Doyle yet to play [ isolating ].....certainly need one more in

Evatt said again today we need to offload before we bring any more in, guess it will be 5 to ten Transfer deadline day

Lasse Sorensen joins on a permanent deal from Stoke.

21 year-old midfielder who spent last season on loan at MK Dons. Is this the Grant replacement?

Seems to fit the profile although didn't seem to play too much at the MK Dons, we must have a permanent scout at Stadium MK.

Seems CM is the area where we're most well stocked. Will that see Howorth/Langdon leave on loan for half a season?

You’re starting to overtake Northampton as our B team…

Seriously though, it’ll be interesting to see how he gets on. He came to us when he probably would have expected a good amount of game time but ended up as nothing more than a back up as we kept bringing in quality in the middle. Seems like a really nice lad.

Yeah that loan spell does seem odd, must have been tough been in the UK presumably on his jack jones and not been able to get home. Nice to get a permanent signing and at a good age. Stoke fans seem to think it'll be a good signing and to be fair there's not many better coaches than MA to get him going, will be interesting to see where he fits into the side.

Goalkeeper Josh Griffiths join on loan from West Brom for the season. Spent last season on loan at Cheltenham and follow in the footsteps of Alex Palmer albeit a couple of years younger.

We were looking at him and Bazunu (who we signed on loan) interesting to see how these two young gks handle it next season

As I mentioned before - Griffiths is a decent shot-stopper but that's about it. For such a big lad, he really doesn't command his area, is rooted to his line on corners and if he makes a howler - which is usually every couple of games - it will be one you'll be so shocked to see you'd be disappointed if an u11 did it.

His stats were vastly helped by having the best defence in League 2 in front of him last season.

Put it this way, I was genuinely relieved when we signed Owen Evans instead of pursuing Griffiths for a second season.

Can't be too many 19 year old keepers with a full season EFL behind him. Has big gloves to fill after a season from Alex Palmer.

I'm sure there aren't and, to be fair to him, he doesn't look like a fish out of water.

Fortunately, the faults he has are things that can be taught and not natural things. He can be taught to be more commanding for example. For every howler he made, he made a stop you would expect a goal from.

Considering we're likely to be at the other end of the table though next season having a keeper like him, who still has so much to learn, was really a non-starter.

I don't know much about either Sorensen or Griffiths but with the former signing, we're stacked with central midfielders now so unless we're going for Pep's ideology of a team full of midfielders, I'm guessing we might shed someone.

Griffiths is an area we needed because the other option is currently the slightly younger 17-year old Sam Long who has no professional experience.

On Mullin, I wonder whether at 27, off the back of one good season in his career and limited game time in L1, other L1 and Championship clubs didn't fancy the gamble, even as a free transfer, and were only willing to hand out one or two year deals?

To be honest, whenever he's come up against us, he's just come across as a player whose main attribute was being a hard worker.

Probably can't blame him for taking Wrexham's offer. Long contract, presumably a very good wage and one 'normal' season for him will make the move a good one with a bit of security that he perhaps wouldn't get if he moved up from Cambridge.

I agree with you, wouldnt surprise me if like you say the big offers were just not there. With so many more clubs using data and analytics in their recruitment teams, a season like that which is a totally anomaly will probably not move the needle for many clubs in League 1 and Championship and might in fact be a bit of a red flag for further analysis into why its happened. At that point you are talking yourself out of signing him than the other way round.

Its been noted by some Cambridge fans who i have in the family, and indeed those on here I think that it was very much a system that produced for him with Ironside alongside him and Hoolohan behind being key factors in producing a system that worked very uniquely for him and his attributes as a player. Not many play that way these days with one up top formations, or more mobile front 3s.

I sent similar to a mate yesterday. I wonder whether the offers from League 1 and Championship clubs were there but not groundbreaking and wouldn’t have guaranteed him first team football or even guaranteed the team being organised to play to his strengths. It also sounds like his agent didn’t do a great job either and Mullin binned him off in frustration when the move to League 1 didn’t come.
