In the space of a few days, we're looking closer to where we need to be.

Possibly need another wide player and at RB.

We’ve signed left back George Nurse on a two year deal from Bristol City. I’ve never heard of him but he did have a loan spell at Walsall last season.

Wing will be quality in this league I can't be believe we didn't try getting him back with the negotiations with Crooks going out to Boro.

Wednesday will be paying him his £10 grand a week contract.......well MAYBE they will if Chansiri decides to pay them this month.

The EFL should be looking at this, one month he can't pay wages, next month he is spunking £500,000 a year on Wing with no return on that money and the same with £300,000 on Peacock Farrell.

There's no way on earth he is worth that sort of money, he was good for us but not that good.
Is he really more than double wages better than Wiles, Lindsay and Barlaser?

Boro' fans don't seem too bothered about losing him.

I find it odd that they are on a transfer embargo yet can sign players on loan for more than most teams can afford but I’m sure the efl know best

It’s a bit weird, I’m not too sure what’s going on as we weren’t on the EFL list that was put out the other week as one of the clubs being under restrictions yet some of the local journos report that we can’t pay fees.

It’s not that he couldn’t, but he wouldn’t. Almost as if it was like “you got relegated so you don’t deserve paying”. It’s no coincidence that when we were threatened with another points deduction and fine all wages were paid. I’m not defending it but that’s how the guys mind works and I can’t see it ending well for us. The other few times when wages have only been partly paid then the rest followed not long after he said was due to it coming in from Thailand but that’s not an excuse.

Do you know that Wing is on 10k a week and it’s being paid in full or is that pure guesswork?

I understand that it's not the fan's fault that Chansiri behaves the way he does but it does rub other fans up to see that one minute you can't (Won't) pay wages then suddenly can afford to make these sort of signings.

According to Boro's forum he is on £10 to 12k a week which sounds about right for a club of Middlesboro's stature.
You know the sort of wages some of your periferal players were on last year so I would think it's not far away.

I obviously don't know how much of it you are paying but I do know Warne wanted to bring him back here but the deal would have been way over what our pay structure allows.

Of course mate, I do get that. The vast majority of Owls I know don’t want him but would the alternative be better? If it winds fans up, imagine how the players feel!

I thought Wing would be on maybe 5k to be honest, with him being a local lad and signed from a Tier 8(?) side.

Yes he came up from non league but he has been with Boro since early 2017 so will have had a couple of improved contracts since his initial 1 year deal.

He is a good player and likes to shoot from distance (unfortunately for us he was mainly off target lol) but he puts a lot of work in so he is a decent signing for you, no doubt.

Beat us to him apparently.

We've offered Crowley a deal and also Dylan Barkers.

Barkers has been on trial for a couple of weeks after a brilliant season with Alvechurch last season - apparently.

Seems like with just over a week to go to the season starts the big hitters are panicking.
£1m fees 10k plus wages on mediocre players. I dont think i can call this league this season.
Ipswich stand out on paper, Charlton, Wigan are obvious picks for many. Sunderland and Wed are in panic mode.
Rotherham, Lincoln look steady. Portsmouth look weak compared with last season. The promoted clubs i think Bolton and Cheltenham will be fine....Cambridge and Morecambe may just survive. Not sure many if any are geared up or ready to step up to the championship.

We are in panic mode? That’s news to me. What makes you think that?

We're thin on the ground at the moment, admittedly. However, I've liked the Cowley's signings so far and I think they are going about it in the right way. They're certainly not rushing anything and just bringing in "squad-fillers" for the sake of it. They've gone for quality overall, which has admittedly seen us miss out and be outbid on plenty of players (e.g. Stockley, Edmundson etc). It's disappointing but shows that they are after the right kind of player. I'm happy to be patient and wait until the end of the window to see where we are then. It's a long season.

One game changer will be if we get some decent money for Ronan Curtis. He wants Championship football and there seem to be some interested parties but nothing solid yet. Any money raised will go straight back into the playing budget.

Callum McFadzean apparently our next signing. Should be confirmed by tomorrow at the latest I'd imagine. Also hearing contract rebel Tommy Lowery should be set to sign an improved 2 year deal in the coming days too.

Ryan Broom on season long loan from Posh, adding to the number of Ryan’s in the team. We have lacked balance/threat on the right to Mayor on the left, and he could possibly provide this.

Burton and Cheltenham fans what did you think of Broom?

I am also delighted that we shall have a Pan and a Broom in our midfield.

Josh Sims in talks with us. Remember him playing the odd game at Southampton when he was young but doesn’t look as though he’s done much since. What would you say DearneValleyRover ?

If we get the Ryan Broom from 19/20 then we’ll be in luck. Decent signing.

Left us after getting promoted to move back up north, ended up at Sunderland who thought he was shite. He was alright here, but he’s more of a wingback than a left back. Think it helped that him and Danny Mayor had some sort of special relationship also.

Was fantastic for us in 19/20 and we knew he was going last summer after 18 months or so of being linked to League 1 teams. He's a strange one though because, despite as good as he can be, he does have games where he just doesn't turn up at all and you wonder what all the fuss is about.

Seems to have struggled with the step up - at Posh he had Dembele in front of him so you can understand that, but there was no excuse for him struggling at Burton like he did (at least from the outside looking in).

He really should be a good signing if you get the 19/20 Broom.

Do you play a back four or three centre backs? He always struck me as a wing back who was good going forward, not so convincing defensively. Fast, reasonably good crosser of a ball, not really known as a tackler. He had a very good understanding with Mayor, where he would come on the overlap. Though we did play him for a few games as the left CB, and he was quite good. Not convinced if you play a flat back four, a view I think Sunderland fans would echo.

Usually a back 4. Rio Adebisi is gonna start the season as first choice left-back, so if Rio does well, any left-back we sign is going to essentially be back-up.

he might, therefore, be a useful sub in the last fifteen minutes or so and you need to get a goal. His speed against a tiring defender could create some opportunities.

He was excellent for us in the first half of last season helping to get us in the top 3. Got a leg injury in his last game on loan, we resigned him after Xmas but he was a shadow of the player we had before. If you get the pre Xmas one you’ve got a gem, if you get the other one you won’t know he’s there.

Also in talks with Marvin Johnson supposedly, released by Boro this summer. Can’t see us signing both him and Sims and I wouldn’t really want us to either. It’s a striker we need.
