Well he’s not been very good since he came, which won’t help. Definitely not filled the Paul Green, old head & instant captain material that we were hoping and expecting. He’s probably been the poorest midfielder in an absolutely woeful midfield.

Twitterati seem to be hinting him leaving helps get Tom Lowery re-signed. Not sure how, Artell says Lowery’s agent has his knickers in a twist over the release fee clause and Lowery’s parents are siding with the agent. I guess if we were to use Macdonald’s wages to fund a sweetener for Lowery... maybe? Dunno, TNO or Pies may have more of an idea.

Basically I wouldn’t lose sleep over Macdonald going. Lowery being back in the team could potentially keep us up.

Biggest shambles of a summer since England’s own Steve Holland (bless him) mis-spent £1million on the likes of Calvin Zola, Anthony Elding and Joel Grant.

I don't know any details but I've heard that there is some truth to the MacDonald story. Christ knows what's going on...

I know you should never judge a player on one performance but he looked awful against us
He'd been out 8 months, it was his 3rd competitive games, he wasn't great but didn't give your strikers a sniff really.

We haven’t got any strikers, they are all injured unless you are classing Bogle as a striker, which if you are then you are on your own.

There seems to be a pattern with Wellens’ teams and spates of injuries. We questioned his training methods.

Agree with others about Ben Tozer, in his 30s, year left on his contract, and they’ve sold him for 200k? It’d seem stupid to reject that to be honest. He could even have a poor season and end up valued at a quarter of that in January, from other clubs perspectives of course.

Adequate defenders are fairly easy to come by in L1 & 2, which with all respect to Cheltenham, should be fine for them, given they are trying to stay up. Okay they won’t be amazing, but take Lloyd Jones for example. I didn’t really rate him here, he got relegated with us to L2, yet he was fine for Cambridge the other week when we played them.
I was meaning more the throw in than anything else. Last season he got 7 direct assists and 6 additional goal contributions just from the long throw. It’s the best long throw I’ve seen in a long time. 13 direct and indirect assists from a cb is a lot to give up for 200k. They looked half decent without him last night though anyway. If he didn’t have that throw then 200k is good money for a 31 yr old who has a year left

2 of them were before he arrived, one in a pre season game and the others are probably due to us having hardly any pre season due to 3 bouts of Covid

Bogle is comfortably one of the worst strikers I’ve ever seen at Charlton. The fact he was only here for a few months before being bombed speaks for itself.

We’re apparently close to signing Harry Arter on loan.

Tozer might have been the best at it but long throw takers who can get assists aren't as rare as they were when back when Rory Delap was making Premier league defenders kick it out for a corner to stop the throw in.

Kayode did a fair few for us last season. If anything I'd say Kayode's throw is better than Tozer's, that he didn't get as many assists was more to do with the players in the box than the throw in itself.

How has bogle gone so shite
I think he's trying to play at least once for every League One club. He looks the part, but just seems to have zero awareness of his team-mates. When he was at Pompey he reminded me of that one kid at school who never passed, tried to beat everyone and basically just went up blind alleys.

Looks like young Arsenal midfielder Miguel Azeez has passed a medical and will likely join us on a year-long loan. Very highly rated and would have probably got plenty of game time for Arsenal if they had Europa League this season. The Cowleys did a good job with Emile Smith-Rowe when they were at Huddersfield so that will have helped seal the deal.

I’ve never seen a player work so hard to be in the wrong place. It’s an art form

Fair point. Suppose we will see over the season. I don’t know enough about him to judge him as a defender alone. Just what I saw in the games against us and the stats.

My sweet prince, Joe Garner is joining back up with Simon Grayson and Tom Clarke at Fleetwood.

Hanlan was the second player Wycombe beat us to according to MA. He'd like in increase our squad size by two by the end of the transfer window, which is about right, assuming we don't lose anyone.

As an aside, deadline day on a match day?!

I think that’s a good deal for Cheltenham. £200k for a centre back at his age and with a year on his contract is very good and they had an excellent defensive unit alongside him last year - he was one cog in a machine.

It's even better when you consider he could have bought his own contract out for quarter of that amount in January and just upped and moved to them anyway (some rule about moving to clubs in a different nation). When he'd already stopped going to training to force the move, then paying him for 4 months for him to just buy himself out of his contract, £200k is fantastic business.

Fair point. Suppose we will see over the season. I don’t know enough about him to judge him as a defender alone. Just what I saw in the games against us and the stats.

The thing people miss on his stats for throws is that when Will Boyle played we tended to score from them and when Will didn't we didn't. The person on the end of the throws was just as important.

I'm never concerned when we lose players - like the vast majority of clubs at this level we're a selling club. It's on Duff and the coaching staff to sign the right replacements and work around the player missing.

Linked with late moves for Brighton keeper Walton and Boro's Sam Morsy.

Any MKD fans able to throw light on why Agard was frozen out by Russell Martin last season? Rumoured to be coming to Rovers and while he'll be an improvement on what we've got, unlikely to be match-fit and it would be interesting to know the back-story.

He just wasn’t quite league 1 standard and had injuries last season, as well as the fact that Russell Martin is a ruthless manager if you don’t fit in with his plans so didn’t play him even when fit. He’s been training with us all summer though so his actual fitness should be ok, and I will always have a soft spot for him, a top guy above all else.

Understand it's being appealed. Although I haven't been bothered to take a look at it.

Saw it on Quest but it wasn't a great view of it TBH, it was only showed from one angle.
Warnock implied it was a joke decision but he would, wouldn't he?

I'm surprised Warnock would want to let him go unless he has someone better lined up.

Tayo Edun linked to Blackburn. Will be a shame to see him go but that's the model we're invested in.

Bersant Celina close to joining us on a season long loan. Embarrassing amount of riches. If we don’t get out of this league then cook is finished as a manager! Seriously I’ve never seen a Town team filled with as much quality in attacking positions as this. Sense a little desperation with this, GK and a holding midfielder is more important for me. If we get all three then it’s a bonus!

We've signed Herbie Kane on a season loan from Barnsley. Happy with this, adding real depth in midfield.
