I don't like it. It's such an important position.

It worked with us in the National League when we had Dillon Phillips, but he got injured towards the end and we had to bring in Jon Flatt, who did ok, but wasn't really tested, which got us over the line. Due to the success of Phillips we then tried it in our first two seasons back in the Football League. The first year we signed Russ Griffiths from Everton who was a disaster. He had a tendency to constantly push the ball into play, which inevitably resulted in a tap in for the opposition's striker. Fortunately, we were able to get Scott Brown in for the rest of the season and he kept us up with some wonderful performances.

The following season we brought Jon Flatt back on loan from Wolves. Again, he clearly was not ready or up to the task. We then fell on our feet when we brought in Scott Flinders on a free. Flatt played county cup and JPT games only from then on.

We took Josh Griffiths in 19/20 because Flinders was still getting over his broken leg and, whilst we went up, he was so rocky at the back. I'd much rather we kept Owen Evans, or even Scott Flinders, for this coming season.

As I've said a few times when the ball is in the air he tended to dither on his line a lot for a giant of a lad and when he did come it wasn't convincing.
The Burton winner, a classic example.

Return of Reece is excellent news. Still got a bit to prove I'd say but it makes the fans happy and he's certainly got the ability and potential to tear it up. Love to see him deliver.
Happy to see him return, probably seen by many as a direct replacement for the player who replaced him first time round, Ebou Adams. I think he has many, if not all, the qualities that Ebou had and for me (unlike Ebou) I never felt like he was a disaster about to happen when he was on the pitch...can't wait to see him re-commence his career in the green and black.

Tbf, we've effectively only re-signed loans onto a permanent deal or players on short term contracts albeit Sam Baldock and Ciaron Brown are good signings.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of activity anywhere to be honest. Perhaps there's a bit of brinkmanship going on in order for clubs to get the best deal. We've only signed 2 players and one of those was on loan with us last season.

Jay Benn (right back) signs from FC Halifax Town. Not played much for the Shaymen and quelle surprise had a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Only 20 so will be interesting to see how he gets on.

I think it would take 500k plus for us to let him go. With only a year left on his deal I think we’d take that with a sell on.
Fair enough. It’s a random bollocks internet rumour so who knows, but I certainly can’t see us having that kind of money to spend.

CTFC Twitter has gone into meltdown because the local journo has said the club value Alfie May at £500k. The club have since tweeted that they don't place valuations on players and that no bids have been made.

It's been hilarious this afternoon.

First season in senior football and only nine appearances. Looks like Robson and young Roughan as back up at LB so I can see it being Eyoma and Benn at RB back-up? But maybe even fourth choice if he choose to play Poole and Bishop ahead of him as well?

Also loosely linked with Danny Mandroiu from Shamrock Rovers.

Seems to be more talk that Steven Fletcher has had talks with Vale. Not gone away that rumour although would have thought unlikely.

Danny Whitehead has left for Besiktas so maybe a player/coach role if it happened?

Not sure if he would be any good now mind.

No thanks, be a complete waste of money given his age and by all accounts his legs have completely gone now.

It’s also not really a Vale type signing under this setup. Leave well enough alone.

Great move to Besiktas for Dean Whitehead. That’s a grave insult mistaking him for the other one :) That’s him and Murray there now should look to exploit that link and bring some players in from there.

Bolton fans, I've heard we're keen on Josh Sheehan, think this might be a loan deal we're looking to do.

We’ve had a few loan keepers down the years too, been a mixed bag, Robert Sanchez the most successful in terms of what he’s done since. The likes of Brad Collins. Lewis Ward & Joe Wollacott have done well at other clubs too. The main problem tends to be inexperienced keepers from bigger clubs might have a much higher ceiling, make some spectacular saves and be better in distribution then your lower league journeymen but they will also make a lot more mistakes as they learn and cost you some soft goals. By the time they cut out the mistakes and start really excelling the season is nearly over and you need to look for another one. So it seems to be a lot less hassle just to get in a solid more experienced lower league keeper and stick with them. It’s what we eventually did with Luke McGee and obviously it paid off pretty well last season as he was very solid making very few mistakes and made a number key saves.

Quality player pre ACL. Imagine he would need to play about 10/15 games to get him right back to full fitness
Maybe he would only get the cup games at Bolton before Christmas so it may benefit all if he went out on loan

Really? Is that from a reliable source? Finding that hard to imagine as it seems he’ll very much be a part of the first team picture this season, as he was last season until getting injured in November (torn ACL).

Unless it’s just a loan until January to get him back to full match fitness following said injury.

Belgian Midfielder Funso Ojo is our first signing, played for PSV, Aberdeen, Scunthorpe and Wigan in a varied career. Dont know much about him mind.
Funso is a quality player. he can put in a tackle, makes the runs. One of the best i've seen for us.

It depends if he can be arsed or not, when we sold Wallace/Townsend/Hakeeb he went off into a sulk for a bit until he got his move to Aberdeen. Hasn't worked out there either, as Aberdeen fans still think it's 1983 and expect to be challenging for Europe.

DippyDon Dawson Devoy scored a "Screamer" last night for Bohemians v Derry last night apparently. Didn't see it but the Radio Commentators were excited enough. one of their decent young prospects.

Sounds like we’re pushing for Dawson Devoy again. 26 years after wanting to move the club to Ireland we’re truly becoming the Irish Dons…
Bohs manager stated after the game that “there’ll be some comings and goings. Let’s see what the next few days brings”.

Could be a massive signing for us if it comes off.

If we can’t guarantee him a starting place maybe he wants games to get back in the wales squad for World Cup. I can’t see him leaving either to be honest but we are stacked in midfield

£500k for a 29-year-old forward who has generally had a bit of a patchy record until having an unbelievable three-month period last season seems a good deal to me. I do like May and his tenacious hassling etc, think he's a good forward. Probably as good a time as any to cash in though as I can't imagine he'll hit the same goalscoring form again really.

I'm sure I remember reading Cheltenham fans in January who would have been happy with the idea of moving him on for a fairly nominal fee to make way for someone more reliable in front of goal, funny how quickly things change.
