Striker Aiden O'Brien joins on a two year deal.

Pompey apparently couldn't afford his wage demands. Seems like we're going for it this season. Once again, happy with this signing!
Wheres Shrews money coming from? no offence but you get 5-7k at home games, yet can afford 4k a week on O Brien and apparently outbid us for Marlon Pack, but being a Pompey boy wasn't about the money

We’ve always have had money in the bank club which fans of other clubs don’t always realise. Roland Wycherley has been chairman at the club since 1996 but there’s talk he might be stepping down in the next couple of seasons but wants to leave the club as a Championship club which is what he promised us Salop fans.

A lot of us didn’t want to leave Gay Meadow back in 2007, but we knew we had to in order to progress. Roland promised us that by us moving, he’ll get us in the Championship in the new stadium.

We’re one of the few clubs in the football league that not only own their own stadium and the land around it, but we turn a a profit virtually every single year as well as having zero debt. We’re extremely well run.

This season we’ve made no secret that we want to be pushing for promotion, as can be seen with the quality of signings and money we’re throwing (all of which we can afford unlike 99% of other clubs).

I’m just looking forward to the season ahead now and hopefully we can replicate our points tally from a few seasons back which would have gotten us promoted any other year if it wasn’t for Blackburn & Wigan being incredible that year.

It's kind of the model I want vale to follow. Keep ourselves steady in league 1 for a few years. Make sensible investments, don't give out huge wages unless we can afford it and it's not going to put us in debt. Turn over a profit by the huge improvements to the non matchday and increased revenue and eventually bypass some of these idiot clubs who are trading at huge losses every year and who will inevitably hit financial troubles.

I think within 5 years we'll be challenging for the division above.

Yes, he was well liked down here during his short stay. Disappointed he didn't sign a new contract but I think there's a slight difference between "couldn't afford his wage demands" and "weren't prepared to meet his wage demands".

The Cowleys have prioritised bringing back George Hirst and Hayden Carter, plus a decent keeper on loan and have probably ringfenced a large chunk of salary budget for those. At the end of the day I'm guessing we didn't expect anyone to offer him a better contract than us and he and Shrewsbury have called our bluff.

It is what it is. He's landed a decent contract and good luck to him.

I see you want the lad we had from WBA last season on loan, Griffiths?
Great shot stopper but terrible command of his area dithered on his line time and again last season, might have been because he had a constantly changing defence in front of him, looked a proper rookie keeper despite having played the season before at Cheltenham. We actually bought a keeper in the January window from forest with zero efl experience and I thought he did better, Griffiths was 20 and the lad we bought is 23.

You make it sound like I should care. Good luck to the lad.
You cared enough to reply.

I don’t give a fig if you care either, I’m just buzzing with this signing.
Plus Cheltenham’s squad does look pretty weak.

Who is he?

Creative midfielder, was one of our top performers (along with Doidge) in 18/19 when we finished 5th in league 2. Moved to Huddersfield, didn’t play a lot but did well on loan at Peterborough two seasons ago. Released by the Terriers this summer so a few of us have been hoping we might be able to get him back as he was a real fans favourite and seemed to enjoy his time here.

Best signing made by any club in League 1 this season in my opinion. Might actually get some fans not predicting us to finish bottom now. There are far weaker squads than us in this league. Cheltenham included!

Reece Brown, that is a fantastic signing for us. Reece has silky ball skills, he can make stuff happen. With the loss of the two players who made 90% of our chances, this was a necessary signing. Puts a big weight on his shoulders, but he has acquired plenty of league one experience as well as some in the championship. So should be equipped to carry some weight as senior pro, and still a good age at 26. This helps the balance of untried at this level, and experience. Lush...

I do apologise, I was just going off what some Pompey fans were saying on social media.

Either way, I don’t think he’d have come cheap. We’re all praying this doesn’t mean that we’re selling Dan Udoh after Millwall and Hull were sniffing around at.

On the three players you mention Luke, Hopper played 22, Bridcutt 15 and Walsh 13.
Not sure about the experienced keeper bit as IMHO we have two competent youngsters and after playing most of last season with Griffiths who was 20 and incredibly green at times IMHO probably not helped by the constantly changing back four, I'd stick with what we've got there.
Definitely need midfield although again we have a youngster who really played even during the injury crisis.
Last season was a vary strange season for sure.
Griffiths is currently a better 'keeper than Long and Wright, though. The latter was decent in his first 2 or 3 games but then started costing us (Accrington away being one).

Forest are in for Harry Toffolo from Huddersfield, so that could be another sell-on clause that comes in for us this season.

Think this coming week we really need to see some movement from Vale. Am ok with what we’ve done in terms of signing Lewis Cass and Ojo who apparently has done well at this level before. The main core of our squad is alright but we need to start strengthening up top now preferably with some pace which is an area we are short of. Also a RWB and an upgrade at GK would be good to get as well.

We have our first preseason friendly on Thursday and then are off to Spain for a week so would hope for us to have at least something in place for then. Really no reason not to now a lot of players contracts have fully expired.

We've signed Ciaran Brennan on a season long loan from Sheff Wednesday. Owls fans, what's he like?

Griffiths reminds me of Joe Hart at the same age , fantastic shot stopper but very vulnerable to crosses and corners coming in. Really hope we don't use a loan on a keeper again this season and then loan out at least one of ours.
I've only seen Wright 3 or 4 times live, was superb v Sunderland and definitely helped keep us in the game against Crewe. Had covid so missed Wigan.
Toffolo potentially going to forest could really help us.
Griffiths definitely cost us goals too but I said both had constantly changing back four.

I'm getting more and more concerned that Griffiths could be coming back to Cheltenham.

We've confirmed our number 1 next season will be a loanee, and his loan with us was a massive success. Factoring in location (we're 45 mins away from West Brom) then it really does make sense.

Portsmouth keen too.
This have a youngster on loan as your first choice keeper is an interesting one.
As I say we have two young keepers of our own that I'd rather we developed rather than someone else's.
Already played for you guys so you'll know his strengths and weaknesses.
