SF, what's your take on Josh Earl ? I was hoping the club would get a centre half in and am delighted at this signing. Think that completes a lot of really good business for the club, we won't win the league but I can't see us being in the same position as last season........

Never played CB for us. He was a travesty last season attempting to play left wing back, was better as a LB in a flat back four but still not Championship standard.

With the right coaching, however, I think he could turn into an alright LCB at this level. Wouldn't hack it in our league though, too static.

Qualities - Pretty comfortable in possession, good strength, decent in the air, decent pace once he actually gets going.

Weaknesses - Zero turning circle and acceleration, poor at defending one on one, and doesn't have a clue when he crosses the halfway line.

I wish him well but I'm happy he's gone.

Interesting that he seemed to play left wing back a lot for you. We already have 2.

Wing backs were our preferred set up and he can defend ok but he is better going forward.
He shared the LWB spot with Shane Ferguson and it worked well foe us when he was fit.

Bristol post suggesting we are signing Saikou Janneh on a permanent deal who I suspect will be back up with a view to next season and beyond.

What’s he like Shrewsbury fans?

Janneh was mainly limited to sub appearances for a couple of reasons. The first being that Udoh and Bowman formed such a good strike partnership and there was no replacing them on the teamsheet (especially Udoh). Secondly as he’s a Muslim, Cotterill admitted that at times towards the end of the season he was thinking of starting Janneh, but as it was Ramadan, Saikou struggled to stay fit and was struggling without eating and drinking so Cotterill didn’t want to risk, mainly due to health worries.

From what I did see of Janneh, he looked quick, direct, willing to take a player on but unfortunately he seemed lacking in his first touch and holding the ball up. He’s only a young lad and I quite liked him. Won’t be the 15-20 season striker we all want, but he works hard and he likes to take a defender on which is always good to see from the stands. Be a decent backup striker for you!

Seems a good overview. We have been in the market for a new winger/striker and it seems he has the attributes for that. I can’t see him coming here as back up for Ironside but more out wide so pace and direct sounds promising.

Fair enough mate, reading between the lines he sounds like he will be all right for Fleetwood and more than useful for the team. Cheers !

Put him alongside a leader type in a back three and it could be good business. I also think he'd be an alright left back at that level, just not a wing back!

Taylor has said in the press today that no signings are imminent as we’ve been outbid so far on our targets. He’s reiterated that we only want 4 or 5 and that he’s looking for players with L1 or higher experience.

The squad is away in Wales this week, so can’t see any news until next week at the absolute earliest. It’s frustrating and we may have to lower our expectations as we move into July, but ultimately we need to be patient and trust that we get the players we need.

We will obviously have one of the smallest budgets in the league. While we won't be able to match anyone else in terms of wages we do offer strong career progression to players who haven't necessarily made great progress in their careers. We put players in the shop window and don't stand on their way if other opportunities arise.

Local journo reckons we could be getting about 600k if Lucas Joao signs for Besiktas as rumoured.

That should help us pay Smith’s mega bucks for a bit longer.

We had Janneh a couple of years ago but the loan was ruined by injuries, hamstring IIRC. If reliably fit he'd be a really good signing.

We've just signed Chey Dunkley on a 2yr deal after his contract ended at Sheffield Wednesday. Happy with that and we're now very strong defensively with him, Matt Pennington and Tom Flanagan.

Quite relieved it wasn’t us, thought it was a strange link at the time.

Really good in the air, not so good on the floor. Painfully slow sometimes. He signed for us while recovering from a broken leg and just never really seemed to get going.

It all depends on the players you have been looking at. If they are a step up to what you already have then you will have to lower your expectations. -- If they arn't I believe you may be in trouble.

Well Taylor has said we’re looking at players with L1 or higher experience, so looks like we’re looking at a step up from what we have.

I expect we will have a backup list of players and I’m sure talks are ongoing.

You looked very decent last season and havent lost any key players so maybe you dont need that many more anyway

True, we did. I expect our starting XI on the first day will consist of 9 or 10 of our current squad, which is pleasing. However, I worry that beyond that we lack experience and it will be a brutal season, so there will be a need to rotate at times. I think we need to enhance the squad with that elusive bit of extra quality, which is a challenge.

On the plus side Moomin, Pierce Sweeney and last season's big breakthrough Cheick Diabate have signed extensions to 2024.

Not exactly new signings, but signings nonetheless.

Belgian Midfielder Funso Ojo is our first signing, played for PSV, Aberdeen, Scunthorpe and Wigan in a varied career. Dont know much about him mind.

From what I remember he was very good at Scunthorpe.

Haven’t got a scooby who he is but it’s someone at least. Interesting we’ve gone midfield rather than the areas of need at ST and RWB.

Our fans seem fairly excited by it, played in the Uefa Conference League for Aberdeen and 23 times for Wigan season before last season.

Yes, very pleased with that news. A big season for Cheick especially as Stubbs isn’t likely to start the season.

Chieck makes questionable decisions in a few games but you can see he's definitely got the ability to play at a very high level. Get another couple of seasons under his belt and he could easily find himself in the championship.
