Byrne quit didn't he
Believe so, but according to the EFL we still hold Buchanan’s and Byrne’s registration for next season.

Both players will have to sort out the legalities in order to play for a new club next season, otherwise they run the risk of being ineligible and leading to deductions and fines for their new club. It’s surprisingly quiet on Byrne - no whisper of any club in for him (probably due to the above) and no sign of him. It wouldn’t surprise me at this point if he takes a year out of football.

New name we’re being linked with is Kemar Roofe - another player with ties to this league previously and someone who has done well in Scotland. No idea the back story behind it, or why he would be open to moving to ourselves, but I don’t see it.

I saw that this morning. The Roofe rumour is a bizarre one.

He’s had a terrific career since he joined us. I just can’t see him dropping to League One. Frankly, it’s not like he needs to do it. He’s still only 29!

We have agreed to bring in Matej Kovar on loan from Manchester United. A goalkeeper apparently who was previously with Swindon and Burton, so thoughts very much appreciated.

He was absolutely dreadful for us. Got beat at his near post numerous times. Distribution wayward, bit flappy and indecisive. Mind you, it was a complete shit show of a side.

Improved at Burton, I think. But can only comment on what I saw

If I recall, when he was at Swindon he was utterly dreadful although as has been pointed out the club at that stage perhaps wasn’t conducive to any player showing any talent of any description.

We’ve apparently got ex Celtic striker Jonathan Afolabi on trial.

So we had two players that had agreed a loan move last week, only for the parent club to pull the plug on both deals last minute. Fuck’s sake.
Swansea pulled the plug on one of our loan deals at 10.50pm on the summer deadline day last year!

We had him during the Covid season when there were no fans, which was probably for the best as he was absolutely hopeless. When you are signing a keeper on loan from Manchester United you are expecting someone a bit good. He was a good 'footballer' but everything else was just disastrous. That season itself was hugely forgettable and we had 7 keepers pull on the jersey throughout the season. Some of our fans have stated he's the worst player we've ever had which I think is hyperbole. I think he had a much better spell at Burton and he was on the bench for Manchester United in Europe last season so they clearly think a lot of him. This loan spell could be shit or bust for him, will be watching on with interest.

Players want too much money/ can't compete/ don't want to move down/ loan signings agreed then recalled by parent club at last minute*

*delete as appropriate
I wouldn't worry. Many of the players signed so far will be being paid way above their actual value. As we get closer to the end of the transfer window and certain players realise they aren't going to get what their agent told them, then their demands will decrease. Loans will be also easier once clubs have assessed what they do and don't need. Our management team have basically said we're not just going to sign players for the sake of it and would rather have a good player for 46 weeks than a bang average one for 52. Lots of managers panic and just sign players without any understanding of how they're going to fit. Hello Salford.

You've got a more than capable squad anyway, in spite of how some would sell this league as Premier league 2, it's still the 3rd division.

Some players also think they are much better than they actually are. As soon as they realise they're not going to be playing then they will drop down.

Exeter don’t need any new signings, they have kids coming through that would walk into some Championship teams, so just imagine how good their starting xi is….

Local press reporting that we appear to be very close to signing Colby Bishop. If true then I imagine the Harness money has given us some extra wiggle room.

Rumour is that we were in for him but I suspect that went south when we signed Gigg.

This one's already been mentioned ages ago but is sounding a bit more official now - Manyoo's Nathan Bishop (GK) who was on loan at Mansfield last season, supposed to be coming to us.

Not that enthusiastic that he won't have *any* time in pre-season with us, but hey.

He didn't have a great playoff final against us but he was apparently quite good otherwise.

Not pontificating, just telling it how it is. Teams will have definitely paid over the odds because of fan pressure/owner pressure (delete as applicable). Some teams can fortunately afford it but teams like us and Exeter have to make sure that we get top value for money.

I don’t recall him being particularly bad in that game. The game at VP he had a right mare but as you say Mansfield fans always spoke well of him.

Looks like from yesterday Alan Nixon (who does have a good hit rate with us) confirmed we are interested in Jamal Blackman. The only thing that gives me pause is at his age he hasn’t played a massive amount of games but been at some good clubs so must have something about him.

He was certainly good for us, sure it was 5 years ago but he's still only 28 so if anything he should be peaking right about now. I know it doesn't always work like this, but in theory with a goalie, the more experience the better if their reflexes are still at their peak,

You make a very interesting point about managers panicking. A recent podcast explained our process for recruitment, and Schuey is not the key person. He has a major role obviously, and I suspect he could veto a suggestion, but the process is run more by our DofF Neil Desnip. This does seem to take out the panic factor a bit.

Felt like he was a bit rooted to his line for the first goal and probably should have done better for the 3rd but that's probably being overly critical.

You pontificate on most posts, you definitely have little man syndrome.
