Had Colby Bishop lined up for a 3pm medical yesterday using the Harness cash, only to get gazumped by Blackpool at the eleventh hour. The bright lights of the Championship and staying up north look to have swung it.

Our fans have gone into meltdown on Twitter as usual. Everyone from the club to the local press being blamed for not getting this one over the line.

It's likely that Bishop's agent put the word out to other would-be suitors that the move was imminent and Blackpool decided to match the fee. Oh well. Who's next on the list?

Hirst apparently our main target this summer but Blackburn plus another championship club (and Pompey) are all after him too. We’re willing to give him the most money seeing as he’s our main target but Blackburn have already made a proper bid like ourselves and they can obviously offer championship football. Sounds as though he’s good enough for a crack at the championship based on Pompey fans opinions of him last season but hopefully we can sway him our way.

From a supposed ITK fan who remains in contact with Hirst, we are his preferred choice. He's been at various loans which have been catastrophic, but with the Cowley's he enjoyed his time at our place and wants to continue his development under them.

We have made enquiries with Leicester, but so far way below what they are asking for. The reality is that we cannot compete financially with either yourselves or a Championship club, so expect to see him elsewhere by the end of the window.

If the figures of £1.5m+ and 14k a week are true, as much as I rate him, that's too much for a div 3 player, albeit with tremendous potential.

We've signed keeper Josh Oluyawemi on a one year deal. 21 year old released by Spurs.

Definitely signals the end for Alex Bass who needs to get away permanently. Likely to go to a league two club.

Zeno Ibsen Rossi confirmed on a 3 year deal. Bournemouth fans seem a little pissed off by this one so looks positive.

According to an account on Twitter (no idea how reliable), we're after Terry Taylor from Burton. Thoughts, Burton fans? Seems highly rated judging by the comments on Twitter so far.

Thought Exeter would do fine this season after strengthening a bit, but yeah I'd be panicking a little now if a couple of players don't come through the door soon.

Particularly if you want to hit the ground running with the earlier start this year.

Definitely a player in there, would have had him back on a permanent as he has potential but not a loan.

I struggled to work him out. Wasn't sure whether he was a bit 'meh' because of being part of a dysfunctional side, or whether he's one of those players who isn't willing to put the hard yards in to fulfil his potential and become a consistent performer.

Got some stick here for his lack of work rate and effort at times, not one to get stuck in and was only interested in doing the attacking stuff. Decent left peg, one of those players who looks like he's gliding when in full flow.

Supposedly the McGinty deal is done according to those at the Sligo end and Irish media with suggestions we've paid around £50k for him.

It's not surprising considering the fees involved. We have Burns and Devoy who are meant to be cracking prospects for the toal of £300,000. It's peanuts compared to England prices for good players.

Interesting. He’s most likely going to play as a striker for us in a two, or possibly playing behind the striker in a 3-4-2-1. Seem to remember him being a winger when you played us at Home Park?

26 yo Scottish International (well 1 cap and wants more) centre back Stuart Findlay at the ground. Just waiting on the international clearance to complete the transfer from Philadelphia Union. Keeper Ed McGinty also at the ground. One transfer has been completed tonight but not announced so assume McGinty but could be wrong.

Apparently 2 others in the process (flying in or flew in today). Also Robinson expecting a yes or no on another tonight from a club (probably a PL loan I reckon).

Edit: Stuart Findley confirmed on a 4 year contract. A very good signing on paper. ITKs claiming we paid somewhere between £200k/£300k for him but how true that is I don't know.

Always did well in our academy teams and earned youth international call ups on the back of his performances, but would suddenly forget how to kick a ball when he got a chance in the first team.

36 goals in academy football in 60 something games - Prem 2 and Prem U18 - but 1 goal in 30 something games in the first team. Not the first person it's happened to - we're also going through something similar with Jack Stretton now who has put up outstanding numbers in academy football, scored for the first team in one of his early chances but hasn't done much since.

Definitely has some ability, probably comes down to confidence more than anything, so with a run of games he could find his feet.

Whilst I don’t doubt going back to your previous loan team is what the player wants, sometimes it’s not financially viable. Celina wanted to come back to us this summer for example but the money was apparently low five figures a weak. Which we just would not pay because he wasn’t a main target (although he’s very good at this level, we had other options for that position such as Chaplin). So he is off to Turkey.

With Hirst, I think we need another striker and if he’s our main target, I’d like to think the board would push the boat out for him as sounds like being the case. We shall see.

Generally the right wing for us and as 91SPP says, he seemed to do the business in youth football, U23 types but struggles a bit with the step up and can't get into the swing of it.

One that could go either way because you were never sure what you weren't going to get from him but if he does come good, you'll see him as a good L1 player rather than someone who's playing below their level if that makes sense?

Blackpool pulled the plug on the Colby Bishop deal.

Be interesting to see if we go back in for him again, or if his 11th hour u-turn whilst on his way for a medical means he's burned his bridges with us.

In any event, we still need 2 strikers.

Yes, very interesting. Cowley yesterday said the door was closed on Bishop as far as he was concerned. Those words are likely to be tested today!

I'd still like to see this deal done if possible. It's unusual for any transfer to go through completely smoothly. As you say, we still only have one striker on our books and the season is rapidly approaching.

I don't understand the logic. I own a business myself and we a similar scenario a few years back (albeit outside of football); a prospective hire declined the job offer, came back two days later realising his 'mistake'. After much deliberation we took the guy on irrespective of any damaged egos. Once hired he didn't work any less hard/wasn't any less committed.

99% of people would chose Blackpool over Portsmouth right now. I don't see why any manager would disregard/self sabotage their recruitment because a player wanted to stay closer to home whilst earning more money and playing in a higher division.

Linked with Brighton young midfielder Marc Leonard. One of these links will come off soon, surely!!

Anyway, he’s capped up to Scotland U21 level and has played for Brighton in the league cup a couple of times, so he could go in the #highlyrated category.

Yeah, if nothing happens this week then I’ll be very concerned. We certainly have a good starting XI and a few options on the bench but inevitably there will be injuries, so we need more depth for sure.

A fair point. Did your guy have to uproot from one end of the country to the other though?

Danny Cowley is huge on people buying in to the ethos he is creating and is supposedly meticulous in his attention to detail to get the right characters. Can't blame Bishop for having his head turned for the reasons you state above. But it now casts questions on whether he really wants to sign for us. We've gone from his preference to a fall back option. On Monday we were signing someone who would've been fully committed to sign. It's this shift in the players mentality which poses the question, and I'll be intrigued to see which way Cowley goes now. The obvious risk is having someone taking up a chunk of our transfer budget and wage bill who is quickly unsettled, and flops.

Feel for Stanley in all this who are now in limbo.

Morgan Whittaker, strange one really
We were desperate to sign him in the summer window but missed out at the last minute and got him as soon as the window reopened in January.
Fantastic debut but struggled after that to impress, played 20 times got 5 goals.
Was regularly picked ahead of our contracted players and I'm not sure he was much better.
Big season for him IMHO as he's 22 in January and to live up to his potential.
