Looks like we’ll announce our first signing tomorrow. Pompey ‘keeper Alex Bass, presumably on loan.

Seems to be a very good shot stopper but is a bit inconsistent too. Hopefully he’ll do well and our starting XI is pretty much set for the first game of the season.

Still need another 3 or 4 to strengthen certain areas and hope for more incomings this week.
I see Bass has gone to Sunderland. Any other keepers on the horizon for you?

Quite a few whispers going around that we’re signing Jay Stansfield on loan from Fulham. He’s the son of Adam Stansfield, our old striker, who died of bowel cancer in 2010.

He came through our academy but went to Fulham a few years ago, which was understandable as he had the opportunity to make his own name elsewhere. So for that reason I’m surprised he’d come here as he’ll have some added pressure on his shoulders.

He’s done really well at Fulham and scored loads in their u18s. He’s made a few first team appearances too plus scored in the league cup, so he’d be a welcomed addition to our front line.
Personally, I don’t think we should go for JS.. the amount of pressure the fans will put him under is unreal.

I’ve heard rumours of Connor Wickham, which, would be a hell of a signing. Fits the bill of someone we’d go for.

He's very very broken is Connor, sadly

What specifically is up with him? Chronic injuries? Mental game gone?
Seems to break down which is botn physical and mental. Shame all around as I know his Father in Law well and we both would have wanted him back at Hillsborough before his latest set backs from his time at PNE

Wickham needs to give it up. His body just cannot handle football.

Quality......good loan signing
Let's hope so. League one defenders aren't forgiving.. Only 18 and U19 football is not the same as playing against men in this league. Hoping for a Defoe at Bournemouth performance..

Signing Wickham would be asking for trouble. Consistently injured. Lee Matthews was another one we had years ago....his body just couldn't take professional sport.

quite agree as seen in the pizza cup or whatever it is called this year. We have 2 teenagers on loan who will both start Saturday for no other reason than they are the best we have in that position.
You wont get the finished article hence why he is with you on loan but at least give the lad a go

I don 't think that fair. He's a good player in a broken body. Trouble is he will never be worth his wage anymore.
Where last season did you spot 'a good player'? I saw a player too scared of his own body to do anything of note other than a couple of individual moments in the Burton and Sunderland games (his sort of assist and goal) but other than that he just looked like a waste of money.

You do wonder why Wickham still gets deals at Clubs when his appearance record has been so poor for nearly a decade or so. You'd also have to question why he keeps trying, I know he's only 29(?) but it can't be much fun for him either, surely his stints at Sunderland/Palace will have seen him ok money wise?

Footballers are not known for their money management. I'm not suggesting he isn't by the way. A lot however aren't savvy.

Lee Matthews was always on the piss when he played for the shit half of Bristol. Had great banter though then we used to taunt him in the nightclubs

We're being linked with loan moves for Jack Burroughs (Coventry) & Joe Hugill (Man Utd). Burroughs would probably be as cover for our LWB Harry Boyes (on loan from Sheff Utd) who's been ruled out till October.

Dan Oyegoke on loan from Brentford. A full back from what I read but I can't see him being anything but backup unless he is some super kid. Anyone?

Would be a big loss for you if he goes.
Huge. In fairness we were lucky to have him and for so long. He shouldn’t be anywhere near League One.

Frankly, any replacement isn’t going to have the same impact on the side. The best we can hope for which I think is more realistic is the introduction of increased quality throughout the squad rather than a like for like replacement.

He can still refuse the move though can't he? Even if the release clause is met.
