If the big boys are paying roughly 10x or more what the smaller clubs can afford, EFL1 must be the most financially lop-sided league in English professional football, perhaps bar the National League?

Whilst I see that point of view, if we’re getting 25k a week and Forest Green are getting 2,500, why shouldn’t we spend 10 times more than them. It’s not our fault necessarily that there’s smaller teams in the league.

Decent signing in Massey I reckon. Fresh challenge for him and only 29. Played mainly league 1/championship and Wigan fans like him.

From the admittedly very little I’ve seen of him, I actually think he’s a blinder of a signing.

Can't see you averaging 25k, based on 16.5k ST sales and 1500 Ave away, you won't get 7k walk ups

Yes, we will. ST's are up by over 4,000. Will be plenty of 28/29k+ gates this season. Also, if we're anywhere near the autos come Jan/Feb we will likely sell out Feb through May games.

Edit: We've also sold just short of 25k for the opener this weekend.

I'm not saying you shouldn't. Just an observation that the teams in this league could be more financially disparate than in any other.

Massey is great at everything other than finishing. Works hard up and down the line all day, has pace to burn and can go past a man - but if he has any thinking time in front of goal he falls apart.

Rumour being talked about both Vale and Stoke ends we might be signing one of their #highlyrated youngsters Will Forrester. If so that would be a very bold and highly unusual move as our clubs just don’t do business with each other probably since we sold the Chamberlain brothers to them many moons ago. If it was a loan it would be a tough environment for that kid the first time he made a mistake can just imagine he probably won’t be treated half as sympathetically as others might. Permanent and well he’d be public enemy number 1 to that lot for the remainder of his career.

Quite agree with you. We have all our initial games sold out -- But that's because the ground we play in is too small for us now. We could easily be getting crowds of 12/13 thousand and the sooner we get a new ground the better. Think Ipswich will be in the top 2 along with Wednesday.

That happens with a lot of pacy players. If you give them time to think they make a mess of it but if they play on instinct they can be very dangerous. We haven't had pace in the side for a while, so I'm excited by this calibre of signing. Still got a good 4 to 5 years in him too.

He doesn't have pace to burn anymore. Hamstrings are knackered.

We have received another 2.5 millions this year from the Downes sale to Swansea last year now they’ve sold him on so that’s funded a couple of the recent transfers. (We hadn’t really bought anyone until that Downes move to West Ham happened, they were all free or on loan).

We had an article on our fans forum/website that The Athletic revealed that we received £750,000 in iFollow passes last year compared to Bolton being £500,000 and that the Accrington owner had previously said they only receive £20k-£30k;

That £750,000 is earned and not just given as we sold over 6,000 passes for our Gillingham away game as we had sold out our away tickets.

And can’t forget, we get moaned at for having higher ticket prices so not only high attendances, we get that from higher ticket prices too.

Jensen Weir signs on loan. Sounds like a decent signing, happy with that. Cambridge fans?
He didn’t play a lot but was just starting to hold his own in the team and then got injured. He didn’t look out of place in league one so should be a solid enough signing.

Some fans are in meltdown at the thought of signings a lad from the lard on loan.

If he improves us I’m not fussed! Sounds a very good prospect.

A correct observation too.

The gap between the 'haves' and 'have nots' is roughly about halfway up this division. There are a few well-run clubs who buck the trend of the financially dominant big boys, but to succeed in this division now you need a ridiculous amount of cash.

It's a totally different league to the one that was here just a few years ago by the way, the financial landscape has completely changed.

Jamal Blackman now being rumoured. Highly doubt that’s legit, but he’d certainly be a very good addition if there’s truth to it.

He’s been linked to us for a while as well (Hladky at Ipswich being the other one). Be nice if something could get sorted one way or the other in terms of him as it’s been going on a while. Could well be more legit than you think though, with the season starting in a few days time I think it should focus the mind of a good number of players who are still unemployed.

I don't think he's saying you shouldn't be spending it, of course you should if you can afford it, just highlighting the huge gap between the biggest and smallest budgets.

Dutch defender Derek Agyakwa has signed for Vale after a successful trial period, ex Watford but only made a couple of appearances for them, only young so one we are looking to develop I think more than a first choice starter.

Think they’ve said that’s the plan to have a few development squad type players in there. He seems to fit the criteria. On the subject of trialists given he got some time on the pitch at Dale on Saturday probably a matter of time before we confirm Rory Holden as well.

Looks like Forrester is happening. Someone got a photo of him signing autographs outside the back of the Lorne Street. Hopefully his announcement video is just of him setting fire to a Stoke top, be a huge fan favourite forever if he did that.

Yeah seen the images so thats a decent signing!

So if Blackman isn't the keeper who is? I reckon Hladky will end up with us, Carlo Nash is working on the recruitment and he was with him at Salford.

Still no idea who the striker trialist from Rochdale was/is.
