Do you think Troy Parrott could hack it in the Championship?
Yes, I do. A big criticism of him here was he didn't score enough goals but he was much more than a goal scorer in our team. (still scored 9 league goals if I remember right). I really rated him and would have loved to have him back but it was pretty certain that he was, if going out on loan agsin, going to be playing in the championship.

Have you got him?

A Spurs journo has mentioned we could be at the front of the queue.

Cheers, glad to see that you think joining a progressive, promotion chasing Oxford means his career is going west!

FWIW he was excellent yesterday, and with Yanic Wildschut looks like they could terrorise League One defences next season.

Based on a 0-0 pre season friendly draw with Wombles ?

In fairness, he only played about 10 minutes.

Not that I subscribe to the idea that it’s a guaranteed route to success. Rather, there is big risk attached to both players. Realistically, I still think we need to do a lot of strengthening before supporters start to subscribe to the potential of playoffs or better still, automatic promotion.

Looks like we’ll announce our first signing tomorrow. Pompey ‘keeper Alex Bass, presumably on loan.

Seems to be a very good shot stopper but is a bit inconsistent too. Hopefully he’ll do well and our starting XI is pretty much set for the first game of the season.

Still need another 3 or 4 to strengthen certain areas and hope for more incomings this week.

We're hoping it's permanent as we need the money. He's a really good shot stopper, very tall. Kicking is good and direct. A couple of years ago Alex was wanted by Palace, but he had a massive drop in form. He'll do well for you

I'd be surprised if Bass only goes out on loan. There was talk of Crawley putting a bid in for him recently.

His time is up at our place. Never really been given a fair chance to establish himself as the number one. For a time under Kenny Jackett he displaced Craig Macgillivray but after a very shaky performance in our first game of the following season at Stevenage in the EFL cup, he was subbed at half time and lost his spot. He has generally always done well when he has been selected.

Cowley has a specific brief of a football playing sweeper keeper, and unfortunately for Bass he does not fit that style.

I think he's a decent shot stopper and his record in our first team is littered with clean sheets.

He'll go with our best wishes and hope that he can really cement a good career ahead of him.

I know from experience never to read much into friendlies, good and bad

While agreeing in broad terms with what you say, I also know from experience to recognise a quality player when I see one, one who's ability is above the level he's playing at, friendly or not.

I’d be impressed if we sign this one. Always does well against us!

He's a decent player, can be quite inconsistent though so was in and out of Derek's side. Loves to attempt Beckham-esque long passes all the time.

I'd have him back if we could but only due to the lack of quality in our current midfield. He will get you goals though.

I remember taking one of my mates (Arsenal fan visiting Bristol) to a friendly a couple years back. He couldn't believe the quality of one of our players in particular. That player was Ed Upson....enough said.

Kingsley Coman flirting with us in the media, wants us to put a loan bid in for him before the Ipswich match. Keep an eye out!

Sounds like he has something. As Denzel says, I highly doubt we’ll pay a fee but at least it would clear some wages off your books. I assumed we’d get him in on loan but if he comes in on a permanent it could be good business for us.

In comes Lief Davis then subject to medical, good to get this one over the line. We have had to increase our bid to £1m plus £500,000+ in future topups. That has to be up there as one of the best signings this window in League 1.

1 more striker required now and we're done. We're still monitoring George Hirst situation but not made a move as yet as far as I've read.

Jesus. You're really going for it. You and Wednesday should walk top two.

Big,big risk on a player who has yet to prove himself in first team football
Hirst now that would excite be a real coup if you could land him.

Hirst would be an expensive but calculated risk, his form in the second half of the season finally showed the potential we saw at us in the youth level.

I often wonder if the bridges between the club and player have fully burned or if he would return to his boyhood club.

Apparently the record signing for a defender in League 1 according to Stuart Watson. Leeds journos rate him highly and that he will ‘rip it up’ in this division which can only bode well

We’ve made a signing!!!!

Gavin Massey who apparently we’ve been chasing for a while following his departure from Wigan.

Versatile and recall he was very good when at Colchester.

Someone who plays as many positions as he does I’m not surprised DC would want him. Got to have something about him having played as much as he has in the team that won the title last season. Hopefully just the start now as we definitely need more in the next few weeks.

Now confirmed. Buzzing! Hirst for £2m hopefully, then we're done.
