We’ve signed 19 year old midfielder Tyler Onyango on loan from, surprise surprise, Everton. My guess is we’ll get a few from there going forward.

Looked pretty decent for Burton against us I thought, big strong presence in midfield.

We also had 2 other loans that went back to their parent clubs at different points, so that will be 8 for the season.

I’m trying to work out what our transfer policy is, we’ve already used over 30 different players and counting. A whole load of our squads contracts are up this summer so I doubt we’ll be massively stable during the next transfer window either.

We are still trying to get a couple in by Tuesday but looks as though we are having a "breather" this window in terms of spending to focus on improvements off the pitch with the amount spent in the last couple of years to get to this stage and the improvements made off the field with the new suite, training ground and facilities within that.

Reading between the lines it looks like finance is being saved for sorting the pitch out in the summer! A fair few fans are unhappy but as long as we get the 4-5 wins needed I think its sensible to take stock and sort the parts that need sorting now before pushing on again.

I would be interested to see how much turnover there has been at the other 3 promoted clubs. We seem to be at a point where we’ve deemed practically none of our remaining squad from last season are good enough for this level, by the start of next season I’d be surprised if there were more then 2 or 3 left out of our entire title winning squad.

We have been largely the opposite in that we've mostly ended up more reliant on last season's squad that new signings! Harrison and to a degree Butterworth have come in and been good (Ojo when fit) but otherwise its generally a case of going back to last seasons players more often than not.

Interesting. Was wondering if the step up is so big that you need a complete overhaul, which seems is more often the case with National League to League 2 these days, or whether it’s just us making a complete arse of it.

I think some of it is just circumstances. We only had a minimal number of players out of contract last summer one of whom we outright released and the other few we extended. FGR by comparison lost probably your two most effective players in Wilson and Cadden and some others from memory.

I’d expect there may well be a bigger turnover for us next summer and in our case I think it’s right to wait until then and focus spending on infrastructure as boring as it sounds. Hopefully not tempting fate but I don’t think we’ll be in a relegation scrap now so better to reset then.

It’s true we lost a few key players, but it’s still been surprising how many of our others who were regulars last season have looked so out of their depth. I suppose it shows how reliant teams are on certain players to help carry the rest.

I'm happy enough with Flint, we don't need a ball playing centre half down here just a bloke willing to head the ball and be tough in the tackle.

Yeah, I mean we played 5 League One sides last year, Won 2, Drew 1 and Lost 2

Beat Burton Away with an injury hit side, hammered Accrington, and the games we drew and lost were against 2 that got promotion and Bolton both narrow defeats so although you cant always use that as a yard stick the competitiveness was evident there, pretty much how we've been this season, mostly good enough to get results against the struggling sides, competitive but often just falling short against the top sides and 50-50 against the mid table sides.

We probably benefitted from riding the crest of the wave as well with the play offs, tight turn around and the feel good factor around the club with the Robbie concert etc.

The issue with FGR is they went up in mid table form for the last few months of the season then lost key players and injuries etc then lost the manager so had a lot more turmoil to deal with, hopefully as long as not at our expense you can stay up though as you've worked hard like us to get up.

Didnt do any of that in our pre season game against them. Looked like he was washed. Judging by Stoke fans he didnt improve much

We certainly won’t stay up at your expense. We’re 14 points behind you having played 2 games more, with 10 of the current top 11 still to play.

I would say looking at the overall relegation battle, barring any spectacular collapses everyone above Lincoln is probably safe. My guess is it’s 4 from the current bottom 6 that will go, with ourselves and Burton extremely likely to fill two of those spots imo.

Judging folks on a pre season game is a bit short sighted. As long as he bangs in the winner in front of your terrace in April all will be well.

Cameron Jerome released by mutual consent. Looks like that one is done too. Happy with him as an option for second half of this season.

You make it sound like you will only win by one? As ex City he will be welcomed once again
We seem to be winning games against sides by just the one in a fair few cases, so why not.

Our defence is shot so you should be winning by more than 1
Our defence is threadbare hence signing Flint, apparently Ihiekwe ruled out for the majority of the season too.

I heard you were signing Michael Hector he must be a better option than skin Flint

Wilson, Cadden, and especially Adams would I think have been useful to us this year (if they had avoided injuries...).

Of those we kept, Moore-Taylor (same comment about injuries), Hendry and probably Godwin-Malife are the only players I'd say are unequivocably and consistently of a semi-decent League One standard.

Though it does seem to be the case that there is a much bigger gap between the better and the worst teams in this league than was the case in League Two. Can't remember seeing us so comprehensively and skilfully walked all over as by Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Basically last summer was a disaster for us almost from the minute we won the title...

As I say I’m really happy with that one… great for the younger players. Still got some pace and was always a hard worker. We went into last season with Eoin Doyle, Bakayoko and Nathan Delfouneso… the evolution of the team is looking really good. Adeboyejo and Charles will presumably be the starting 2. Nlundulu and Jerome fighting for the shirt.
