Jordan Rhodes linked - a very Mel Morris-esque rumour. Not to say he can’t do a job, as I‘m sure he would, but shows our somewhat lack of vision in the transfer market.

couple of rumours ones that’s popped up a couple of times now is James Wilson is in Spain with the Vale squad and May now stay on the contract offer (said to be Pay as you Play based) due to his injuries.

Would be delighted and a good deal if true.

The other one is that Jephcott was with the squad last week training and played in the behind closed doors friendlies.

Neither confirmed and only rumours at this stage.

We've had a bid rejected for Accrington's Tommy Leigh apparently and over the weekend, reports in Ireland linked us to Jack Moylan, a young lad from Shelbourne. He's out of contract in November/December when their season ends.
On Moylan, Shelbourne would be due 60,000 Euros (about £50k) in compensation if we signed him as an out of contract player so I suspect we'll have to offer some sort of add-ons to sign him earlier and/or offer to loan him back until their season ends. That said, it does sound as though they're trying to get a replacement in and their transfer window closes at the end of July.

Looks like Jephcott is off to St Johnstone.

Camara on loan to Charlton confirmed. I think they will do quite well this season.

Liam Roberts (GK) is supposedly on his way to Barnsley from Middlesbrough. Walsall fans had grown tired of him but I think I speak for every Cobblers fan when I say he was outstanding for us in the 21/22 campaign, arguably the best season from a keeper I can remember in my time following the club.

I agree, although they were dreadful when they came to Vale and basically won through Rak-Saki or whatever his name is when we played at the Valley, so they can't be much worse. They seem quite typical of lower league London clubs who sign up lots of local young talent who are highly skilled but really naive. Seems they're going more down the tried and tested route now.

I don't feel like he's what we need. Seems to have lost his way and perhaps is one of those that need chances laid on for him.

The list of available strikers with any sort of record is dwindling by the day. I'm hoping we're either after someone under contract or we're going to pull out a biggy otherwise it feels like we've missed out on a number of targets and we're just going to bring chancers in on loan. At the moment it feels like we're making the same mistakes as last year and underestimating how much a half decent striker costs. Would love to be proved wrong.

Josh Umerah from Hartlepool has been linked with us. Never set the world on fire but he's a bit of a unit and Simpson could get something out of him...

JW9 will sort us out!

In all seriousness we need to get one experienced one in (aside from Wilson if he does re-sign).

Think we will go after Dale Taylor due to the Forest link we have but even then would need one more. Ellis doesn’t have much better luck with injuries than Willo.

Caprice playing for Burton tonight. Odd that it’s not yet been announced considering he’s still under contract with us.

Vale have now confirmed James Wilson is in Spain with the club, no deal at the moment but accessing how he will fit into the group.

Comes across and prepping fans for a U-Turn but for one I hope it gets done. The lad is quality but the deal has to the right.

This just says the market for Wilson isn’t what he or his agent thought it would be when he turned down our contract offer and with his injury history it shouldn’t be a shock. That’s clearly the big asterisk with him as well as the time it takes him to get going but so long as the contract works for us it’d be worth doing. Interesting line about seeing how he’d work within the new setup, from what I can tell we’re not looking at a change of formation and the coaching staff is the same as finished last season so should know what he can do.

It came across as a “we have to say something due to the rumours”. If no intention of signing him I don’t see why we’d fly him out there and put him up during a team bonding exercise.

He's off somewhere, not at our pre season camp in Scotland, I like Umerah, big lad but not a target man, started the season really well, hit the January transfer window, we turned down bids for him and his form plummeted, spent too much time wrestling defenders and giving away stupid fouls, looked shot to bits.

Expected him to stay in League 2, think League 1 might be a jump too soon for him, but good luck to him if he gets a good deal for himself.

Linked by a Twitter account with about 20 followers.

I wouldn’t even give it the attention it deserves.

Luke Matheson on trial with our B team.

Not much risk involved bringing him in for 12 months, see if he can kick on with them and push towards the first team.

That lads career never reached the heights everyone thought it would after his goal against Man United for Rochdale

We might be selling centre back Shad Ogie to Gillingham after he was apparently spotted at their friendly this evening, with his old manager when he was with us Kenny Jackett.

Talented player, but apparently with a slightly questionable attitude since he signed his last contract with ourselves.

I'd like to keep him, but he is going into the last year of his contract and won't be first choice next season.

EDIT: Club have confirmed at this time of night he has indeed been sold to Gillingham.

We're now in the market for a left footed centre back then, Wellens likes to play with one left footed and one right footed centre back.

He was in the Scunthorpe team that we beat 7-0. Looked like he won a competition to play and got hauled off

I'm confused, I thought most of you Vale fans agreed it was better to let him go as he hardly gets on the pitch ‍♂️ we have a few of them however good they may be it's hardly worth it if they are always injured.

You’re somewhat right though it was more a case of if he’d accept the deal based on what we know about his availability then great if not then move on. What we shouldn’t have done and I’m glad we didn’t was then offer him a massive deal out of panic when he turned down the original offer. So long as the deal is right then fine and I would imagine it will be more reasonable as if he was in high demand he’d have signed elsewhere by now.

Technically he's light years ahead of league 1 in terms of touch and awareness, but he's just so fragile. One knock and he's out for 7/8 weeks. It then takes him 4 or 5 games to get back up to speed. If we can get 30 + games out of him then it's worth it, but it needs to be on our terms.

I'm not keen on us going back for players but he rejected a deal that we offered, so it wasn't like we released him.

It's clear from this move that we have missed out on a few striker targets. I just hope that we have another couple on the back-burner, as Ellis isn't exactly Mr Reliable fitness wise and we'll end up with our annual 7 week period without any strikers.

We're in for Bonne too apparently.

Good. Have him.

Not bothered about us letting Ogie go; talented but clearly not in Wellens’ plans. Imagine Ed Turns will come back on loan. We really need to pull our finger out and sign a striker, though. Bonne’s piss-taking is slowing our whole summer down.

Most Vale fans wanted him to stay as long as the deal was right (similar to Gibbons) due to his injury record.

It would be hard to keep him as a top earner if he is out for spells all season again but if the deal is structured right it’s a no brainier.

I think one of the reasons teams arnt interested in wilson is his goalscoring record. 4 goals last season isn't good enough. His scoring record throughout his career isn't good enough. Even if he has a good not injured much season he won't get anymore than 10 goals in a season.
