If the Nombe rumours are true, Charlton going into a season with 3 very good strikers will be a far cry from previous seasons. It feels strange to be optimistic

I'd quite like Nombe reuniting with Brown at the gas. An attacking line of Collins, Brown, Nombe, Sinclair and Thomas would take some stopping

Most likely. There seems to be a lot of transfers between L1 clubs this pre-season involving best players, rather than them going up a level.

Would Nombe and May up front work? Not convinced.

Nombe is a favourite among Derby fans, so that'll rile some if he ends up at Charlton - good strike force they have: Nombe, Leaburn and May. Lots of goals in that team if they get the right service.

Fuck knows who will be leading the line for us this season, even talk of Waghorn coming back which smacks of desperation. Shame we don't seem to be willing to pay fees, it's honestly no different to last season under EFL restrictions.

Your owners could be starting to adopt our model of looking for value in the market with frees, saving on transfer fees but allowing for a bigger wage budget as a consequence.

You need a good scouting network, but mostly luck for it to pay off.

From the outside when you loose so many good players over a year it's always hard to replace them with the same quality as before. I remember we had the same in 2007/8 at our peak, finished 9th in L1 and got relegated the following season with young inexperienced loan players (among them Frank Fielding, Kyle Walker, Aleksandar Prijović) The same seems to be happening at Exeter.

We lost Mark Bunn, Gábor Gyepes, Bradley Johnson and Poul Hübertz.

Exeter have lost Blackman, Key, Dieng, Collins, Brown and potentially Nombe now, replacing them with 3 premier league young loan players (Rankine, Sinisalo, Trevitt) with hardly a game between them. Now they might end up having great careers like Walker, but its a lot of pressure on them amongst the fan base to replicate.

Every team has cycles and unless some off their academy players step up, Kite, Borges, Cox etc, I also think its relegation. and remember they are doing it a league higher than Collins, Key, who had a chance to bed in.

Bit of a ramble but think it makes sense ha.

So our ITK says Nombe bid accepted and 30% goes to MK. Ouch.

Also rejected two bids for Demetri Mitchell

Yeah does sound like some strong indications from the Exeter end that Nombe is happening.

Our local journo hasn’t rubbished it yet either which is often a strong indicator as he normally likes to nip things in the bud early if the rumour isn’t true.

Yeah we won’t be paying that, that’s why I was surprised by the rumour this morning.

It does seem that way, I'm happy with the majority of the team so will just have to see which striker we sign: Collins and Washington are decent backup at this level, but really would like to see someone better lined up to start the majority of games.

Caldwell has confirmed the Nombe rumours are nonsense.
Also that we tried to sign George Friend, but he chose Rovers

Good to hear. Although, I’d still be surprised if we don’t lose him this window, especially if he starts well for us.

The Friend one is weird. Always thought he’d end his career here but just shows there’s little sentiment in football. He was probably offered more money at Rovers.

Is Zak Jules any good? We’re about to sign him according to Pete O’Rourke on Twitter.

Yeah that’s got to be it. Nothing to do with better chances of finishing higher in the league, bigger fanbase, better training facilities and he was here as a kid.

Who knows, he’s 35 currently and might just join you for retirement in L2 next year?

But seriously though, your sentiment comment - what does he owe you exactly? It’s nice that you thought he would end his career at Exeter, but it hardly seems fair on the bloke to be expected to retire for you?

Time of the month again?

Well the fanbase comment is bollocks, otherwise clubs like Fleetwood or Salford would never sign sought after players. They pay good money, so the player often will choose that. And our training facilities are excellent, so can’t be that either.

He doesn’t owe us anything at all. He was interviewed back during Covid times and he talked about coming back here to play one day, so I think we assumed that would happen at one point. But good luck to him…

Why, what gives you the impression I am a woman?

I find it funny that an Exeter fan couldn’t possibly conceive that a player would ever join Bristol Rovers over Exeter if it wasn’t for the money. Seems harsh to then take jabs at him over a lack of sentiment.

It's a fact that you have a higher budget than us.
Friend has regularly come back here and we actively wanted him to sign, so..

Well, I guess if you actively wanted to sign him then only money could tempt Friend away from signing for Exeter, no doubt. Thank god Collins has another 2 years on his contract, he might just walk out for free to join you

Some of our fans seem convinced we are to reveal a striker or two with the kit reveal tomorrow… no idea if the case though. We do usually release the kit video at 5pm and Vale have posted a cryptic T-12 hours for 9:30am…

Some fans think T means Troy! Lol not a chance!

Of course there are multiple factors involved in a player moving. I’m sure Friend was sold the whole package by Barton and he may well feel he will have a more successful season with Bristol.

But, let’s be honest, money and length of deal is often the deciding factor. If we offered Friend £2k per week and Rovers offered £3k, then it’s a no brainer for him.
