Until this season Raggett was just a decent League One centre back with a mistake or two in him but excellent in the air. But this season he has been a different beast entirely and had he played the entirety of the season he would have been a strong candidate for our player of the season. He (and Rafferty) are strong characters that should improve the dressing room, too.

A word on Mingi - he had a lot of potential when he was here but his agent gave him some dreadful advice when it came to stalling on a new contract and ended up at Colchester when he could have been part of a title winning squad here. Whilst Stockport is obviously still a step down from Pompey, I'm glad he's getting another chance to show what he can do in League One.

According to Radio Sheffield there was another player to announce subject to his medical next Tuesday (maybe Joe Powell?).

Plus SE says there's 2 more due to sign next week if everything goes well.

If only it was that easy.
It wont be, because your players are not used to winning and Evans will rip up how you play.
Some great signings by the way, but there are reasons all those players have been released.... Certainly will get in the play-offs. The title. Big, big ask

Thank God you're right about Evans ripping up the way we play.
If he doesn't we will be bottom half.

Of the team that got promoted at Gillingham in 2022 only Odoffin and Rathbone are left so there's not much legacy of players with us at the end of last season with any experience of achieving a promotion.

However, JCH, Rafferty, Raggett and Reece James have all won promotion from this league and the other signing McWilliams won promotion with Northampton.

We rarely ever win promotion as Champions, Wigan clawed something like 12 a point lead back on us to beat us but the rewards are just the same.

Jay Mingi signs from Colchester, 3 year deal. Looked some player against us in April.

Mingi had a very stop-start season with us after joining in September. He had no pre-season, took a while to get up to speed and was in and out of the side due to injury and suspension so it was only really the last eleven games of the season that he properly featured. In that sense, it seems good business for a player we only really got a few weeks out of.

He came in as a central midfielder, but was a revelation in those last few weeks playing on the right of a back three. He's really athletic, quick, strong, had a good leap and was brilliant and bringing the ball out. Showed some really nice touches and quick feet to burst from picking the ball up on the edge of the box in a bit of danger to suddenly be breaking through the centre circle.

I would have really liked to see him back in central midfield after a full pre-season as I think we could have looked to build the side around him, but Cowley was in the Portsmouth media recently saying he would be surprised if he was still here by pre-season so it was always going to be unlikely.

Evans Bingo is going to be difficult this season, we're gonna have to take out all the ones about budgets and about the sort of clubs who make early moves in the transfer window.

Meanwhile, Steve's new signings have had their own squad photo.

Leonard's been linked to both Oxford and Wrexham on a permanent. If this actually happens I think I'll just give up on football, he absolutely should not be playing League one football next year.

Never heard of him until 20 seconds ago but hope we sign him.

Brady said at the end of last match interview that he'd been talking to Marc and there had been plenty of interest from League One and Championship teams, and at the prices being bandied about were true we'd even be willing to take a look at (though even at £300k odd that would be twice as much as we've ever spent on a player in the entire 125 year history of the club, so I doubt it, and with demand Brighton could get a lot more than that for him) but I think odds on he'll be a championship player next year as he's easily good enough for that level already with room to grow.

Sounds like he is bound for somewhere higher up the pyramid but I'm all for this type of signing. Hopefully he's a big fan of Deadpool or It's Always Sunny.

There's a post on your forum (http://www.redpassion.co.uk/forums/wrexham/124145-too-soon-transfer-targets-128.html#post2857225) last week actually from someone who supposedly knows a cobblers coach, who said that we were trying to sign a player who'd been on loan from us for two years (either Leonard or Bowie being the only options here), and we'd offered 3.5k per week, but Wrexham has swooped in a frustrated us by offering wages of 10.5k per week.

We just let Appere go to Stevenage because we didn't want to pay him 3.5k per a week, I can't imagine there are many players outside of Leonard who we'd be willing to offer that sort of money to, but then again he was being offered on a free that might well be Bowie as well.

Leonard has better defensive and offensive stats than McClean and Cannon and year, so if there were you main midfielders last year he'd be an upgrade for you and would be worth 10.5k at his age if you've somehow got that sort of money to spend (Bowie less so tbh), so maybe it does have some legs in it, but depends on Championship interest I'd have thought.

Technically we could offer a player 10.5k a week (going on our estimated revenue for the coming season) but that would be a lot higher than we are paying anyone atm amd would set a dangerous precedent for the 5 or 6 players we will probably be looking to bring in this summer. I'm not sure why we would go in so high if the offer on the table for him at Northampton was 3.5k, unless it was a result of the Championship clubs interest. I could certainly see us doubling his wages from last year though if we wanted him.

The 3.5 is just what we’d manage, he’ll have plenty of offers elsewhere plus he’d be a good candidate for a big sell on in future

Technically there’s nothing stopping Wrexham offering a player 20 grand a week.

Half of the Championship want Leonard don't they? He certainly seems to be on our radar if Alan Browne leaves. I also saw Hull & Sheff Utd linked.

I don't buy the reported £600k price tag though, seems far too low in the current market.

Every one of our lot will be getting promotion wage rises anyway as it is built into their contracts. £3.5k a week is peanuts in 2024 for a player who is seemingly as good as him. If there's Championship teams after the lad then we've no chance IMO, we can't compete like that just yet.

Completely agree on the price tag aspect. Would be staggered if its as low as that, although it can happen, look at Alfie May last season!

Meanwhile, we're going at this window like we've just had a few spliffs but making a Pot Noodle would be too much of an exertion..
Early movement is always from the bigger clubs throwing money around.

We made our first summer signing on 21st June last year so I wouldn't be too concerned.
