Plange was a loan that didn't work out for us at all in the second half of last season, we never really picked him in a position where he looked comfortable and I think he played across all the front three. Probably not suited to our formation full stop really, and couple that with being low scorers and low chance creators, it's not an ideal combination.

We expected more given his background but very underwhelming.

He's not in the top bracket of L1 strikers but has the potential to be I think, he's very well rounded and football intelligent striker for a 23 year old and he's stepped up from NL football with ease. To get 13 goals in our side last season was a very good return.

No surprise he was getting glances from the Championship this summer but the new deal, if true, will protect us and not have to think about selling him in January (if he was out of contract next summer) or in a years time if he only had a year left.

HUGE rumours coming out of Salop this evening. Looks like we could be resigning James Collins for a fourth time from Derby County.

IF this comes off then this will be one of the best signings at this level all summer. An inform Collins is a 20 goal a season striker at this level. Him and Udoh up top and we’re cooking!!

Better or worse than Jack Stretton?

Good question: Plange is probably better, definitely a better footballer technically, but Stretton seemed a little more industrious to me. Stretton was probably the better finisher of the two, but that’s just from what I saw at academy level. They didn’t get many goals or chances between them at first team level.

James Collins is in the top 3 strikers we’ve had in the last 20 years alongside Grant Holt and Carlton Morris. I think that you would struggle to find a Shrewsbury supporter that has a bad word to say about him. He was incredible for us in all three of his spells.

The rumour started this evening by somebody on our forum who gets pretty much 100% of rumours nailed on correct. He only posts when it’s a certainty. However, some of our fans have pointed out that it could be James Collins on loan from Watford. I didn’t even know there was another James Collins since the West Ham one retired.

If it’s the Watford one then unfortunately the poster on B&A has got all the Salop fans excited over nothing. Be a kick in the nuts when it turns out to be this 18 year old lad from Watford now.
