Good keeper too.

Seen a Lundstram to Sheff Utd rumour on our forum. Hope the £500k mentioned isn't nearly enough but Rothwell would more than hold his own in CM.

We're close to signing a left back/left wing back in the next few days, and then our defence will be complete - on paper, one of the best in the league - Ebanks-Landell, Wootton, Walsh, Williams, Lewington - all have won promotion from League 1 at least once in last few seasons, except for Wootton who has good pedigree (ex-Man Utd, Leeds etc).

Also (loosely) linked with Lee Erwin and Luke Berry.

Where are you going to fit Paul Downing in that defence?

I know it's only been pre-season but apparently he's been really good.

We've just completed the signing of Tom Nichols from Posh for an undisclosed fee.

I know some Peterborough fans thought he wasn't brilliant last season but I'm really happy with this. Highly rated, young and was top scorer even though he wasn't playing all that well.

Posh fans, how much do you think we'd have had to pay to get him and are you happy or sad to see him go?

Jorge Texeira left to join St Truiden yesterday (huge shock that he's moved to another Roland owned club). Not all that bothered. There's 3 or 4 players probably ahead of him anyway.

That will free up some money as he was one of the higher earners, I reckon Robinson will use it to try and tempt Ben Reeves. We desperately need a striker now with Ajose going to Bury, I'm not arsed about him going as he obviously doesn't want to be here and probably isn't good enough anyway but he was more than adequate back-up.
Quite a few rumours at our end that scott Golbourne is heading your way. Anything from Charlton and do you need a left back?

Yeah have seen the rumours down here too.

We only have one 'senior' left back in Lewis Page, who isn't really that good and is injured until October. A season long loan for Jay Dasilva is supposedly a done deal, he was excellent for us at the end of last season but yes, we will need another LB.

Is he surplus to requirements? Any good?

He's alright to be fair. He would certainly be more than good enough in L1. We have Joe Bryan ahead of him and the Icelandic national team left back in Hordor Magnusson so it might be difficult for Scott to get much game time.
When he's played, he never lets anyone down, solid if unspectacular would be my description, not a bad trait in a fullback.

I've liked Nicholls for ages. I'm quite excited by the team we're building. Central defender, bit of cover in midfield, another striker maybe and perhaps some wing cover and we're good to go .

Yep, agree with that Aber. Think DC will go for four more signings in the positions you mention. If they are players of a similar ilk to what we've recruited so far I will be very, very pleased.

Think he has the potential to be a proper 20 goal a season striker in League One, GO'G?

Still hoping to hear the views of some Posh fans too.
I think in time, yes potentially . I liked him when he was here. He's not the biggest/strongest nor is he lightning fast. He's your fox in the box type of striker and works best with a strike partner or players around him; he's a good finisher and scored some good goals for us. Dependant on the way Rovers play, he could thrive for you.

Sounds like the Posh fans never really took to him and the booing he received affected him. He is still fairly young and will only get better. Hopefully your fans show a bit of patience with him.

Yep a good move for Nichols I think. As GOG says he's a poacher type striker and he'll run all day too. At his age he's got lots of potential to improve and should become a decent 15-20 goal striker in L1....

What CU said sums it up really, unspectacular but solid. He never ventures 5 yards into the other teams half though, very defensive full-back. Good player though, probably too good for League 1, I suspect the only reason he was dropped at the end of last season is because he had a row with Johnson, he looked pretty solid until he was suddenly dropped. None of that is confirmed of course, just I suspect he had a row with Johnson.

Sounds good, fox in the box is what we need! Lots of chances for him if the last few seasons have been anything to go by.

Lots of good deals being made at this level, start of the season will be interesting.

Signed Everton youngster Courtney Duffus on a 2 year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Oldham Athletic are actually buying players. What a world we live in.

Confirmed to have signed James Wilson on loan, any good Sheffield/Oldham fans?

Wilson is a cracking player if he hits form but can be lazy and will not command a defence. He needs an experienced head along side him to guide him. If you have that he will thrive. If you expect him to Marshall the defence you are in for a long season

Apparently we have pulled off a coup with this Duffus guy but I know cock all about him so will give that one time and make a call after he has had a decent run.

As for the Ripley rumours where have ya heard that other than owtb?

Doesn't sound the sort of player that Robinson would typically go for, he prefers a wing-back who will run forward.

No harm in having a full-back who primarily defends though, Jay Dasilva will be the one to bomb forward so will be good to have another option in the position.

If he's fallen out of favour, would you say it would be more likely to be permanent than a loan? Wouldn't be surprised if others are interested if he is free to leave.

We've also been linked with a move for Josh Wright, albeit a bit dubiously as it's from Pete O'Rourke and one of those twitter accounts.

It could be either Bobbin but he's definitely at our warm weather training in Tenerife so nothing is imminent by the looks of it.

Nicholls is a confidence player. Last season he lost his and the crowd hounded him. After that he hid in games and the crowd got even more anti.

He makes good runs and was not helped by playing alongside some complete amateurs. The intelligence and the player is there, it's his character that I think is questionable.

I'm not too fussed he's gone but would have been happy had he stayed. A move back down south maybe the best for his career at this moment on time.

I'd sell for a decent enough price to be honest. Scored a lot of goals in the second half of last season but most were penalties and tap ins - never known anyone as afraid of shooting which sounds a little odd but true. Likeable chap, but I'm not entirely sure what he adds to a midfield (other than the purple patch of goals). Start of last season when he was captain he was absolutely dire, it was only once Pennock came in that he started getting on the scoresheet with regularity.

Judging by the Peterborough forum, this Nichols chap seems a steal!

Depends how much the undisclosed fee was. Anything under 300k is good business for you. He asked to leave because he got booed and jeered during a friendly, good player but mentally weak by the sounds of it.
