Son :bg:

Looking forward to these stellar signings then.

I just presumed you were way younger than me.

Aye, targets can be identified and subsequently signed after so-called ‘lesser’ signings - I’m lead to believe.

I don’t think it quite works the same as FIFA 17, where you’re allocated a playing budget and you go out and buy all the best players first....

Don’t know anyone’s age on here so would be a bellend move to assume they are older or younger than me, never mind then using patronising language towards them. Just a heads up to improve your future posting mate.

If we sign Dieng and Wright who we have reportedly offered contracts to we will have 4 first team centre mids all probably picking up decent wages, and Devine/Pybus as youth options. Do you really see our limited budget then stretching to another decent centre mid? I think the best we can hope for is getting a Prem youth on loan like Cullen who turns out good.

Centre mid was a massive problem for us last season as evidenced by the fact that we had Guy, a teenage loanee who wasn’t even that good, come in and make the position his own over our own wasters. So the current pattern of events doesn’t really fill me with confidence.

I don’t post much on here anyway, largely due to ‘posters’ like you.

Can I ask though, what evidence do you have of our shoestring budget? Presumably, your source is one of the many ITK City fans in social media? Or is it one of the infamous City forums?

Oh dear. Chin up mate.

I get my info from the club and the T&A who have said a few times we have a mid table budget, not heard anything for a while but I’m assuming this hasn’t changed given that Rahic admitted a couple of weeks ago he hasn’t got any money to invest and we will need to generate revenue from selling players on and cup runs.

Are you really gonna have a go at me for dodgy figures? Not sure you want to go down that path?

Ah yes, of course, the T&A - that reliable source. Parker gets his stories from rumours on social media, and not once has Edin (to my knowledge) come out and state we have a mid table budget - although this may be true. However, if you take into account the fees we paid for players last season, in addition to £350k per season for the development squad, not to mention £365k per annum ground rent - it’s more a case of sticking to a model and giving it a chance to flourish, as opposed to indirectly saying we have no money, which is what most fans believe.

We are trying to sign Sam Mantom and Tom Hopper from Scunny and Kyle Vassell from Blackpool. Would take all three of them as useful additions.

Vassell's a funny one. Absolutely gubbins apart from a 20 odd minutes spell when on loan with us, but has been good at Blackpool. If the right one turns up you've got a good player but if the other player turns up you've got somebody wasting a wage. Good luck to him anyway.

Hopper seems to have been linked to lots of L1 and L2 Clubs.

Josh Wright is very mehhh never gonna set the world alight.

Alex Woodyard looked well below what was required when he was here yes that was ages ago but interesting to see how he performs no longer playing for the Cowley's and now playing for that nice bloke Steve Evans.
That's the biggest intrigue from our side, too. They're at opposites of spectrum from a man management point of view.

Woodyard will suit Evans style more than Peterborough's style. Will be interesting to see whether MacAnthony is willing to let Evans do what he's got to do to get them promoted rather than seemingly insist on attacking football with lots of goals.

Shame about Billy. He seems a nice guy who just can't seem to shake off his problems, whether that's through lack of will or lack of help.

When that article came out, Lincoln fans then understood why it didn't quite happen for him here. You could tell something didn't seem quite right but couldn't put your finger on it. It wasn't through lack of effort - if anything, he tried that hard at times he looked like a headless chicken and tried everything at 100mph.

In the continuing slow transformation of Dale to Dail Eirann, we've now signed midfielder Stephen Dooley. Not played in England before, he has played for Coleraine, Derry, Cork (alongside current Dale defender Ryan Delaney), with the last six months back at Coleraine.

26 years old (so not a kid) - if he gets up to speed as quickly as Delaney he could be very useful.

Bit of contract business on our side - Glen Rea and Alan Sheehan signing 2 year deals today; the latter already had a year to run after automatically extending post promotion.

So everyone we offered a new contract to has now signed apart from Olly Lee who moved to Hearts.

Kristian Dennis of Chesterfield has signed for Notts County, bit weird as I thought we would be back in for him after we failed miserably to sign him in Jan. I’m sure we no longer wanted him and it’s nothing to do with getting outbidded by clubs in the league below...

We have pulled out of signing a player as he refused to do a running test in the medical! Haven't a clue who though.

Just been confirmed that Shinnie has signed for us on a 2 year deal.

As previously stated, not overly excited by that but not upset about it either. Definitely a good player, just needs the right sort of game for him to show it. Hopefully there will be a few more of those at this level

Refused to run? I can think of someone.

Happy with this. Was exceptional first part of the season and then tailed off a bit when the pitches got heavy. Hopefully the better pitches and less cloggers in League One might suit him better.

Suggestions from some it may be a busy day for us today. The fact that we have announced this early may suggest that. Our resident ITK'er suggests we are still in for Bradley however you'd imagine he'd go Barnsley if he leaves Plymouth. Also reckons we are in for Alex Mowatt and trying to bring Cam McGeehan back from Barnsley. One of those fake agent twitter account also has us looking at Baldwin from Posh, however with his injury record I hope not.

I suspect we have enquired about Baldwin as the Peterborough chairman was asked about us specifically on Twitter and said "several clubs have asked but no sufficient bids yet" or words to that effect.

Would love Bradley but can't see us outcompeting Barnsley, especially as he's from up north originally.

Don't want McGeehan back overly. I like him but he should only ever play as the 10 in our diamond and we have Lee and now Shinnie for that. He massively unbalanced the diamond when played deeper, Luke Berry was huge for us because he was much more selective about when to break forward and also better in possession. You'd think he would cost a lot of money too.

Mowatt seems to have a rapidly deflating career and wasn't rated by Oxford fans I believe. But a natural left footer with bags of ability would seem like a good fit for the diamond if Jones can get some form out of him. Would probably rather that then McGeehan, likely cheaper and a role we actually need to fill.

Wouldn't be upset about McGeehan coming back but does make that number 10 position quite a crowded spot as he isnt a good enough passer of the ball to play the box to box positions IMO. Dont know much about Mowatt but we would need someone to replace Lee so makes sense

Bradley seems a bit pie in the sky to me, given the other clubs supposedly in for him. Dont know much about Baldwin but looks very meh. You would think we would only look to bring in 1 of those 2.

Still want us to bring in another DM to at least rotate and hopefully compete with McCormack, given that him playing 50% of the games might be a struggle for him.

Certainly wasn't impressed with Mowatt. Technically seems a decent player but soooo slow. Apart from the odd spell in games didn't really impress in any position and we tried him in the no.10 role, wide midfield and central midfield (in a 2 and diamond).

Playing under Pep Clotet may not have helped but then he wasn't much better under Karl Robinson. There must be a player in there as he played plenty for Leeds in the Championship, but maybe to do that he needs the players around him to do the running etc. He can take a good free-kick.

Also, I doubt Mowatt will be a cheaper option even should Barnsley want to offload him.

To be fair I was guessing there, I've no idea how much Barnsley paid for him. Supposedly they paid something like £800,000 for McGeehan a year ago though so can't see them selling him back to us for a big loss so quickly.

Sweet. Although good luck to him, just didn't work out here.

Definitely wouldn't want Mowatt back at Ox.

The description of Mowatt sounds very similar to what many would have said about Olly Lee this time last season. If we are looking for a like for like replacement he seems to fit the bill.

Sounds very much like a player Jones would like (technically gifted, still fairly young etc)

Agreed about Hemmings. I think you have to play a particular style for him to thrive and we never did play that way. Likewise, good luck to him.

If the rumour of a 6 figure sum for the transfer fee is true then at least we have got back a decent amount of cash for him.
