Leading the race to sign Ellis Chapman from Lincoln.

Any good?

For me 'meh' local lad who originally left the academy to join Leicester but who returned. Left footed looks a neat player but never really had much of an impact for me or imposed himself. I also think majority of fans have cut him a huge amount of slack as we have been starved of local talent due to been in the National League.

I'm assuming he's wanting a better deal and if Swindon or someone else can offer him more money then fair play. If I was Michael Appleton particularly with all that's going on, I just wouldn't be pushing the boat out to get him to sign a new contract.

As above.

You'd be disappointed if he was anything above our 4th choice central midfielder next season. He seems to have stayed at a similar level since he started training with the first team nearly 4 years ago at the age of 16 and that promise he showed/showing needs to turn into something.

Technically good and looks like a footballer but, as you can imagine for someone at his age, physically isn't there yet. He's a bit like a young winger playing in CM in that respect.

If Appleton, as one of the better coaches of young players, isn't pushing the boat out to keep him then that probably says a lot.

Looks a bit silly turning down our pre-Covid January contract offer now. We'll get compensation for him anyway so it all goes back in the kitty.

EDIT - I say turned down the January deal, he didn't actually reply to it.

Not a signing, but Wellens has said that Keshi Anderson, who has left for Blackpool, was our highest paid player last season and wasn’t worth it.

I’d have said all day long that Doyle would have been the highest earner. We’ve made an offer for Jerry Yates, close to agreeing terms with Woolery and Grant and made a 2nd offer to Doyle.

All sounds promising.

Nine sixteen y/o lads have signed up as first year scholars, two of whom have already played for the first team in the EFL Trophy, while a third has attended a training camp with the Polish U17 team. Promising...

Sounds like we'll start making some signings in the next week or so.

Not too much coming out but as previously mentioned, GK Kieran O'Hara has been after his release from Man Utd, CM Connor Kirby after his release from Sheffield Wednesday and ST Kevin O'Hara from Alloa.

He's better than his dad who played for us in the early 90s.
Compared to Joe Morrell who had on loan he's miles behind him shame really as you want local lads to succeed.

If we sign O'Hara the keeper we'll need another option as he's still got 5 games left of his 6 game ban left for biting.
Looked decent especially for Macclesfield, got them a point almost single handed at our place in 2019.

After our 5-0 reverse on Saturday, our chances of dropping back down have increased somewhat which is clearly disastrous in the current circumstances.

So how are teams managing to prepare for next season? Apparently Sep 12 is the date where the season may start, but reports in the last few days claim that it could be in the latter part of August, meaning teams could be back in training in the next week or 2. Whatever happens, it needs to be decided this week I'd argue.

How are teams signing players without this information? And without any salary cap information?

MacAnthony has previously said they will do their upmost to get promoted next season and will no doubt spend, spend, spend. They've sold less than 2500 season tickets - we've sold nearly double that so far.

It was hinted that this week we could find more information about getting fans into stadiums. Surely it's difficult to restart any football at this level without any sort of crowd?

We and the playoff sides are going to behind the 8 ball for next season. Going to be over a Month behind everyone else in terms of preparation, we are probably waiting to understand what league we are in terms of contract offers, recruitment etc as well as probably not thinking about planning a pre season.

Also going to be very out of pocket for having put the games on to finish the season which are going to be losing money hand over fist for. Sweet et al won’t allow us to be reckless (a good thing, not complaining) so could see that impacting our recruitment a lot. Wouldn’t surprise me if we have a tough start to next season at the least and maybe a very uneven season.

A few rumours on Twitter that Liverpool may be interested in our left back Harry Pickering. Seen a few things about how he’s ‘analytically’ he’s comparable to Alexander-Arnold. I believe he’s good but not that good to be premier league champion quality. But as long as they are willing to part with a decent chunk of cash for him, he goes with my blessing. I think it’s probably just a rumour.

Wouldn't read much into Pickering to Liverpool, just an article on The Athletic

Our CEO and our owner both said last week that end of September is when they understand the return to matches will be.

Sep 19 is an international date (not that it matters in L1, but they won't start L1 on a different weekend to the Championship)
Sep 26 would prevent the League Cup being played I'd argue - let alone the Trophy.

Yes I saw some of the links, is he any good Crewe fans?

I guess some of these rumours from ex agents and the like get the odd one right, that’s 4 different players linked in a day or so.

Yeah, he's a good player, he was all set to go to PNE a few years back but failed the medical. He's had some horrible injuries over the last 3 years or so and even in the first half of this season, he looked like a shadow of his former self. However, when he got a good run in the team, he got properly fit again and back up to speed and he was starting to really contribute again. I'm disappointed he's decided to go - if he stays free of injury, I really think there's a good league one midfielder there. Despite all of the injuries, he's played over 150 times, is only 24 and has previous league one experience.

Hard to say, when he broke into the team 4 or 5 years ago he looked a star, a box to box midfielder who had a knack of scoring goals. He’s was on the verge of a transfer to Preston then got a bad injury which took him out for about a year, then was never the same and had struggled to get in our team. But since Christmas he has seemed to start to get back to that player and get a few more starts.

There is a talented player in him and he has a goal in him.

Luckily we have abit of depth in midfield, Lowery and Wintle are far more important, Finney played ahead of Jones for most the season and does a similar job, and I know Artell really rates the young lad Lundstram who I can see getting a chance next year.

Our local paper and radio station are both reporting that he's not signing a new contract and they make Lincoln favourites to get him. They tend to be pretty cautious about these things - they don't usually report a rumour if there's not something in it.

Thanks for the heads up guys. We shall see then, we certainly need to strengthen and add bodies to the 13 currently in the squad.

I still think lots of these rumours end up not happening or the player goes to a different club, if not re-signing even.

Agree with LOTP, it's the local media are picking it up then something must be imminent.

Feels like, generally speaking, the transfer wheels are starting to turn in L1 and L2.

I really couldn’t care less if Jones goes. He’s not even half the player he was before his injury and for the most part he was well off the pace last season. There’s talent there but how much his injuries have done him in for the long term is up to debate, a solid year or two playing in the starting 11 may get him back on track. Like Crewe lad says, we’re pretty flush with midfielders. I don’t think Jones would be entirely assured of being anything but a squad player here at the moment, be surprised if he was a first 11 man for any L1 team tbh.

And Pickering to Liverpool? Lol.

The Pickering to Liverpool thing is definitely not happening. All based on an Athletic article suggesting his name as a possible option.

It’s one reason why all this analytical stuff is a load of baloney and nerds will never become scouts from their keyboard using it. Pickering may have great numbers but it doesn’t show he’d be massively out of his depth for any Premier League team, let alone Liverpool, right now.

Given that we're now moving to a younger squad with promise, looking to develop and sell on (decision made pre-covid) I think we'll see a few more 3 year deals here to protect ourselves although it's a fine line between protecting yourself and getting it wrong but I suppose it's a risk that has to be taken as long as it's calculated and not reckless.

Not something we've done very often full stop, mind. Alan Marriott back in the early 00's was the last one before the 3.5 year one we gave Hopper in January.
