Stickied League 2 Away Support Thread 2024/25

I’m guessing Mansfield’s is skewed above ours on the basis of the high attendance at MK where they had a meaningful final game.

Also skewed by their derby game at Notts where they took a big following. I believe Nottingham is fifteen miles from Mansfield, whereas our closest 'derby' game was fifty plus miles away.

If you consider all distances and the season as a whole, I would say Lincoln and ourselves are one and two in the division.

When you consider distances travelled, % of away fans as a proportion of home gate, skewing of averages due to 1 off followings etc etc I’d say Tranmere and Lincoln have the genuine best away support this season, closely followed by Notts Co (especially considering their season), Carlisle, Oldham and Mansfield... notable mention to Exeter too who travel consistently solidly despite their relative isolation.

On the other hand, Crewe’s away support has baffled me for a while... poor considering their relatively stable fanbase of around 3,500-4,000, considering they’re well placed in the country and have very good rail and decent road connections I can’t understand why they don’t travel better. Old demographic of fans maybe?

For Grimsby to average over 500 is very good considering they've finished 17th. Notts is exceptional too having been so poor on their travels, awful at our place back in August.

It's not helped being consistently one of the worst sides away from home this season. We still average around 10% our home crowd away from home which isn't all that bad.

To take around 17/18% of our home support away during our lowest league position in near on 50 years isn’t bad. Fair play to Notts too - I don’t think any other team in this league would average that number during the season they’ve had.

Yeah, but a lot of us have stopped going because we were so poor, I only managed 6 away games this season which is the least since we got relegated into non-league.

For the first season ever since following Town I’ve been to no aways this season due to a combination of my shift pattern and then my car fucking up leaving me pretty skint. My weekends off when they have come have just fell shit for any decent away games, and then in the last couple of months of the season I’d planned on doing Oldham and Morecambe but the clutch went on my car and I had to scrap it and get another so couldn’t afford to go to any.
Probably a blessing actually as it coincided with us being absolute dogshit.

It’s still a good effort though isn’t it? Taking 4,000+ to now non-league County counts just like anything else, and I don’t understand why the need to compare so much either? You can consider all you want, but it’s probably best to go off the actual table who’s #2.

Mansfield could win the FA Cup and you probably would still have to grit ya teeth and not give any sort of positive vibe, so come on mate, be a good lad and say something nice because us Stags fans want a pat on the back for once?

So MK used to be even less supported away from home then? Because that’s a abysmal effort all considered, yes even the franchise aspect.

We’ve had more away fans this season than we had in the last 2 in league one. The only year I know that we had more than this was the championship year.

Mainly down to the fact that the kids are growing up and are doing most home and aways to be honest. It’ll be interesting to see what our away support is like next season.

You get the odd child wearing premier league shirts of course, I’ve seen that pretty much everywhere I’ve travelled, but our away bunch are pretty much all solely MK fans which is nice to see for me. Still, the funniest thing I saw at Dons was a grown man wearing his Bolton strip at a home game against Brighton.

Final summary of the 18/19 season- has been a great season to be an Imp so a little of my travels first.

I've managed to get to 15 away games this season (Bury, Cambridge, Carlisle, Colchester, Cheltenham, Exeter, Everton, Forest Green, Macclesfield, MK Dons, Morecambe, Notts County, Northampton, Stevenage, Yeovil).

All trips done in the same day except Cheltenham when Mrs SB agreed I could stay overnight (after a work meeting in Birmingham on the Friday before the game).

Travelled a total of 4,000 miles averaging 278 miles per trip.

Best Away day(s) MK, Morecambe and Cheltenham.
MK experience, atmosphere and result were unforgettable
Morecambe has a quaintness I'll miss (alongside Fish and Chips with Eric on the seafront)
Cheltenham is a lovely town and the football locals very friendly.

Worst Away Day- Bury
After match shenanigans were pretty dire really and dampened the whole evening.

Anyway, on to the main event!

Not that it matters much but we had 2 1000+ followings in April.

Anyway we'll have no more than 400 in Newport tonight I expect.

Thought finishing 4th in these play offs was meant to be an advantage? Away on a Thursday night and then home on the Sunday so they'll be able to travel in good numbers to the 2nd leg whereas a 4 day turnout to Newport away on a Thursday is just a no go.

Then the table of attendances is wrong I could have sworn we made a big fuss about selling over1000 tickets but it was ages ago and I've had far too many beers in between.

It is the number who enter the ground, not ticket sales.

Tranmere sold out their Easter Monday allocation of 1000 at Sincil Bank but only 920 attended the game.

I only use official away attendances announced (with the exception of around 10 games this season which were estimated on this forum).
