.........Personally, I'm just gutted that we've gone from having an excellent travelling support and a passionate home crowd, to what, by all accounts, is something average in number and quiet of voice away and good in number and poor of voice at home.

It's strange that the best season on both fronts was our failed promotion attempt under Quinn and co, and our double-winning season didn't even match up. Ho hum. Hopefully things will improve when our club stop trying to kill off the passion/ban anyone who dares sing up.
CHOMP!!!

and prepare for contentious in part response..

I share your pain. It felt like our travelling numbers were down this season, after a blip with the new ground/promotion effect. In fact, they appear to be up again - but the extras seem to be from an older age group and more thoughtful set of fans (myself included, perhaps on both counts). Many have moved on or broadened their horizons.

The amber army seems to have lost numbers and its edge. Yesterday was the worst in a while but not atypical. The team were not great, no worse than I expected, but it's difficult to join a passion about how much better City are than Rovers or how a naïve Irish lad, who changed jobs 'cause his new club were keen to sign him and his old club (who'd paid him loads of dosh after he got injured playing/training for them) indicated they didn't rate him, is a c*nt, w*nker, Judas and ginger tosser.

I'll continue to try to add to the positivity and humour when opportunity offers, join in songs/chants when moved by the moment and company, enjoy the banter and beer with salt of the earth League 2 fans across the country and tolerate those of our more challenging fans who deserve it and mutter about those who can be an embarrassment.

Does that fit the Habbinite stereotype? Have I finally thrown off my NRE shackles after over 10 years since my migration?

Good numbers although I do recall your club programme used to run an article about following the side away from home and the piece went by the name 'The Inter-city Trickle'.

I completely disagree, I hate arguing....

Anyway, I cast no stones. It is not I that attacked Leyton Orient apropos of nothing.

Incidentally, that 5-0 tonking at Histon,ffs...was that the lowest point for you as a United fan?

In footballing terms, I'd probably say so, the only mitigating factor was it was the FA Trophy (a competition that was despised at the time and for about 6 years afterwards). When we lost to them in the league was pretty bad, but by then we'd actually assembled a decent side and were superior overall. There were a few other defeats in the Conference that were the pits, losing at Rushden 3-1 one season with it looking like we'd be relegated to the regional divisions was awful, and I seem to recall Hayes and Yeading lining up with what looked like a team of children, before smashing us to pieces.

None of these football low points really compare though to the stony silence that greeted full time when we got relegated, or the fact we nearly lost our club and had to fight tooth and nail for it, or the rape and pillage by John H*ward and Gary Harwood, were all far lower over all.
Fair enough...but 5-0 at Histon!!!
If someone had suggested that might actually happen a few years prior, you'd have laughed the rest of the week, wouldn't you?
Pretty damned humiliating,I'd have thought and surely worse than getting turned over by Camb City.
The equivalent for us would be losing 5-0 at Nantwich,a side that lots of Crewe fans go and watch when they have a big game.
I know we'd never hear the end of it.

Are you lot ever gonna sort yourselves out with a decent ground?
Somerton was a dump but Rodders ain't much of an improvement in all honesty.

651 gas heads @ Carlisle!!!

Superb that, really hope you lot go up again as despite breaking our hearts in last years play off final all the fans i spoke to on the walk from tube station to Wembley (of which there were a lot as we got off at the wrong stop)! were brilliant people, and even though Barnet won the league Bristol Rovers were far and away the best team in that league last year, so great to see you doing so well again with a chance of back to back promotions, good luck!

Cheers GTFCfish, we were lucky at Wembley you could have beat us. Fingers crossed we got a good run of games now apart from Northampton and back to back promotions would be unbelievable! Shame to see such a good club like yours still out of the football league.

Yeah on the day we were unlucky but over the season you definately deserved to go up, some of the football you played at Blundell Park was fantastic and i don't know how we managed to only lose 1 - 0!
I didn't notice you had lost your last game at Carlisle i thought that you were 3rd, but still as you say a good run of games coming up for you to hopefully make up the 3 point gap, and even play offs would be a great effort after coming out of the conference.
I have my fingers crossed for you! :)

Very good for a 350 mile round trip.

What we really need is you lot back in the league. Your away support is better(and much louder!) than most L2 sides. The only thing that worries me is Hurst, but I'm hoping he gets it right this time.

You can't win the league but not be the best team!

But yes, great effort that. Only reason I don't want them to go up is because they're far more accessible than Crewe or bloody Blackpool. Well, that and the nailed on banker of a home win against them!

Yep, probably true. Thing is I don't watch a lot of Championship footy, in fact I rarely do.
Me neither, and of course it's only half serious but we do average more than a few at that level and there are loads more local games in London, Lancashire and Yorkshire, than we have.

Hurst worries most of us I think, he lacks a certain tactical something...
