Swap Mansfield and Newport around and the top 7 won’t be far off how it’ll look in May.
It's a fair shout.

Last season at the end of October after 16 games, the top 7 was:

1. Notts County, 33pts(finished 5th)
2. Accrington, 32pts(finished 1st)
3. Luton, 31pts(finished 2nd)
4. Exeter, 30pts(finished 4th)
5. Swindon, 28pts(finished 9th)
6. Coventry, 27pts(finished 6th)
7. Wycombe, 27pts(finished 3rd)

Lincoln were in 9th on 24 points and they finished 7th.

So, 6 of the top 7 after the first 3 months remained the same by the end of the season. Wonder if that'll be the same this season.

Tranmere should know themselves how easy it is to drop away - still plenty of games left to go.
I’m unsure in what context you’re referring to Tranmere in that remark?

The L1 season when we table-topped at the half-way stage but imploded to finish 11th was largely due the recall of a couple of key loan players, who weren’t adequately replaced. Our L2 debacle never saw us above lower mid table. Yesterday’s side saw only one loanee, Luke McCulloch in the starting xi. While a shortage of midfielders might put us back if both he and Gilmour were recalled in January and there may be difficulties if we decided to cash in on Norwood, there’s enough squad depth to suggest we can remain in with a chance of the play-offs at least.

I still remain convinced we'll drop away into mid table, but that's just me being pessimistic as usual! Who knows?
If Norwood had a complete loss of form then sure.

But I also know we have 100k's left in the kitty for January.

The club had different ownership and was in a completely different place in 2012-13, so I am not sure how relevant that season is to this.

Its extremely relevant you guys should know that all it takes is a few players to get injured lose form or be recalled and the team suffers. Its not a dig its just the nature of football at this level. To say the top 7 is going to stay the same from October to May is a little naive.

Two seasons ago we looked fairly well set before an insane injury list and we then missed out by a point, whilst by Boxing Day last season we were fifth, one point off the top three and looking good - it turned absolutely horrific after that. Think we have more grit about us this year to ensure we don't fade in the same way but a few injuries and we'd probably wobble again.

Yet as JJ 1532's interesting post about movement between the end of October and May highlights it is also possible that there will be little change over, if last season's pattern is followed. I didn't see enough L2 games/highlights last season to comment on whether there was a bigger gulf between the top 7 and the rest than there is this season. My impression is that there aren't many stand out good or really bad teams in L2 this season, so the top places may be more fluid.

I do think we're due a bad run. And it is the Tranmere "way" to falter towards the end of the season. But who knows, 7th is overachieving as it stands.

My post wasn't just aimed at Tranmere - one of the other 6 teams could drop out too. You could be right Im still not convinced we're good enough for the top 7 but there's a lot of football still to be played with plenty of bad refereeing decisons that pretty much decide games as much as the players these days.

Am hoping this run of form is our blip and we can soon start to get back on track and actually look like winning games again. A tough game coming up on Saturday against FGR and that nice man Mr Cooper.

Another defeat/bad performance and a win for them having lost the last four against us would be a very unpleasant pill to swallow.

Looks like the league was never our priority this season anyway, we turned it on last night in an emphatic 3-0 win over Cheadle Heath Nomads in the Cheshire Senior Cup. Winning that gets you into the European Cup Winners Cup right?

You are just soooooo wrong with this that I bet you’ll feel an absolute fool when I tell you your glaring mistake:

It’s called the Europa League now dude. ;)

Fair play to FGR if those figures are legit. We have spent enough time bashing them for being bankrolled so let's give them their dues when they are in the black.

I'm really looking forward to Saturday. For some reason I like going to Crawley, and the last game we played there was brilliant with their striker in goal for most of the game and a 90th minute equaliser.

Last time I personally went there though was for a Supporters Association tournament and I got injured, playing my last ever game of football however, so mixed memories.

We should win, but Crawley seem to like playing against the teams at the top so hopefully our defence can stay strong once more.

Hardly a surprise given that your 'sponsorship' and 'other football revenue' mysteriously rose from £960k to £2.4m and £200k to £1.2m respectively, whilst most other areas showed only moderate increases, bar wages, which increased by 50%.
Financial Fair Play in action Luke!

Not sure if serious...read Luke's post. Lots of 'sponsorship' from that nice Mr Vince's Ecotricity and renting out offices in the ground to his company at hugely inflated prices. It's bankrolling but with a modicum of decency.

By who exactly?

Don’t recall anyone on here saying that about you.

Phil Brown was saying something about how we were one of the big boys, which was of course frankly ridiculous.

Phil Brown’s a tosspot. Anyway, he probably meant ‘big’ in relation to your league position - at the time!

People still taking what managers say to the press especially post game seriously? I thought that only applied to folks from Bury.

Sad times, I thought we were better than that on here :mell:
