Not very eco-friendly corporate boxes, all that space took up for just a few seats.

Deepcut; I doubt if the wood would be flown in (I work in air cargo) but the point about sustainability and the global economy. I do scratch my head sometimes about how we manage things. The Young's Scottish langoustines that are flown to Thailand for processing before being flown back to Grimsby for packing spring to mind.

In other news. Crawley are slashing the price for children's tickets next season. Under 11 s will now be free entries to the ground.

Hopefully, a few will come back as fee paying adults. Something needs to be done to break the kids supporting The Premier League teams.

The capacity of that stadium in the renders so far would be approaching 13-15K.

Compare it to York's new 8k stadium.

I expect the renderings are showing the stadium at 10k, which the capacity will be able to be increased to 'without structural changes' apparently. Probably means the bowl itself will fit 10k but we'll only install 5k seats to start with.

I've always said I'm intrigued to see what Vince does if the new ground was rejected - always in the belief that it would get given the green light (no pun intended).

He's always made it sound like this stadium, and the eventual eco-park, is crucial to any future with the club. Whether that means he's going to walk away, I'm not convinced. As much as I think the club is mainly an advertising tool to him, I do think it has got under his skin a bit.

I guess a lot of us are hoping that he has an alternative lined up, or will appeal, but I'm not sure that that will be the case. I do think that we are limited by our current ground as, even though it was built with view to attaining Football League status, I'm not sure that too many people seriously considered that as being likely.

When we moved to TNL in 2006 we were still at the stage of struggling to avoid relegation, though the new ground did allow us to reach a point of relative stability and mid table finishes. It was only the arrival of Dale, plus his business acumen in addition to the financial backing, that really had the club looking in the opposite direction. I would agree with you that the club has got under his skin, he talks about it with passion and probably sees it as somewhat more than purely a vehicle for his green ideas.

I am sure we will hear more in the coming days about what is being planned next, despite the initial reaction that there wouldn't be an appeal.

FGR existed long before Vince and will exist a long time after him, in some form. His investment has grown the club, but one of the current regime's major failings is the almost total detachment from the local community. It used to be a busy social club, hub of the community but now it's seen by a lot of residents as a corporate advertising vehicle with new glory hunting fans driving in from elsewhere with no real benefit to the community. These views might not all be totally right, but they are held by a lot of people and DV himself is not massively popular either. On that basis it's easy to see why residents in Eastington, Stonehouse etc are not particularly keen to see the club build on their doorstep, as they don't see any major benefit to themselves to make up for all the extra hassle. If the local public aren't particularly keen on you, then the elected councillors aren't likely to be either.

Maybe we as a club need to take a step back and focus more on being what we originally were, a small town club at the heart of it's local community with a thriving social club happy to be realistic and accept that we aren't going to be some national superpower or global advertising vehicle.

Sadly, I don't see Vince going for that.

Whilst FGR may survive if he went, it wouldn't be without trouble. There's no way the club is sustainable at the moment without his/Ecotricity subsidising it.

I used to live in Stonehouse and then, I had absolutely no idea FGR existed - although this was probably 25 years ago ish. I suspect that's probably changed somewhat now.

Likewise, I used to live in Cirencester some 40ish years ago and had never heard of FGR?

Obviously had no interest in the local non league scene then? We were in the Southern League back then but were a well known name in local football.

Absolutely none at all (and still don't). That said, I was in my early teen years so there was only really Swindon, the teams Swindon played and Liverpool, Arsenal and Man U really that I was interested in.

Although I did enjoy going through the scores in Match magazine and seeing who had played well and who had played shit on a weekend.

I wasn't really into football at all back then (too young) but I did start getting Match around that point cos I liked the free gifts. That got me started on supporting Man U, and I don't think I'd ever heard of Swindon Town at that point either lol.

When we got to the Conference our mini match reports, player ratings etc started appearing in the 'Matchfacts' section which was exciting. And we had our own team tab to go on the team tracker they gave away at the start of the season. Good times.

I used to bloody love the League Ladders. I used to keep it at my nan's where I stayed every other weekend and ensure it was kept up to date after the Saturday fixtures when I was there. Great times.
Until you lost one or three down the back of the bed or side and had to make your own.

Used to buy Shoot and Match every week.

Anyone remember that postal management game you could send off for they advertised in the back? I did it once and got Port Vale, Tony Naylor was a hero.

Yeah same here, my league ladders are still on the wall in my old bedroom at my Dads house and I moved out of there about 15 years ago.

Cor, this is turning into a bit of a retro-thread. Does anyone remember the fantasy football league when the Daily Telegraph started it. I seem to remember that you made your changes by post?

...or it skipped a page and you had to wait for it to come around again.

That must be from the early 90's, I can remember seeing two of the scorers play, Junior McDougald and Alun Armstrong.
