So for the XG nerds out there this makes interesting reading so far. Cambridge and Stevenage massively under where they’ve had the chances to be, Salford, Cheltenham and FGR largely above where the XG suggests they should be.

Oldham and Bradford pretty much spot on the points their chances have deserved.

Morecambe failings clear to see and maybe a sign of who to back in a relation battle.

Would have taken a point before the game yesterday given Cheltenham's form this season (and, particularly, their home record all year). On the radio it didn't sound like we were really at the races, so to still get something must be seen as a point gained.

Although it didn't sound like we deserved all three points, the penalty looks like a massive dive which is a frustrating way to drop two.

I thought it was an even first half, with us hitting the bar and then absolutely gifting you a goal.

Once you got that goal you went into all-out defence mode and were clearly not intent on attacking at all. I agree though that I thought the pen was very, very soft (and that's being biased). Only one team were trying to win the game afterwards though, the ball just didn't fall for us.

Cambridge looked every bit as crap as us yesterday, and despite being among the highest xG scorers in the division looked as though they weren't sure what that big white rectangle at the end of the pitch was.

Thought we were deservedly beaten yesterday against a team that is clearly starting to get its shit together . We throw in that sort of performance every so often but we've lost 2 in 12, so not too bad. I believe that we've lost 19 points from winning positions so far this season. We just can't see games out very well.

One thing that didn't help was the referee. He was one of those 'it's my show' refs who can't help but blow his whistle whenever anyone goes down, irrelevant of whether it's a foul or not. The sending offs after the game show that he still wants to hog the limelight. Disrupted the flow of the game so that it ended up scrappy. Wish we had Van Veen, he's a real difference maker.

Van Veen has been dire every time he’s faced us prior to yesterday! Dare I say it we probably missed the option of Pope off the bench to make it stick up the other end once chasing the game which has worked most weeks.

Think they racked up high XG points early season as they seemed to outplay a lot of teams and were picking up pojnts

How many goals you score and let in, and how many points you have is all that’s relevant. I’d never even heard of xG prior to this season.

Seems fair. As I say, I can only go off the radio but it didn't sound like we were playing too well and certainly riding our luck so it definitely felt like the equaliser was coming when it did and can't have any gripes that we didn't win the game.

I said last week scunthorpe are a good side that wont go down and will end up around the play off positions.
I still think vale will finish somewhere between 10th and 14th which is clearly better than the last 2 seasons.
Brown made some terrific saves yesterday and even though he was at fault for that goal I'd still say he was one of our best players.
We played some good football at times in the first half but stopped doing it once we scored and scunthorpe deservedly won and probably should have won by more.

Vale have informed the EFL of their intent to Appeal Worralls red card... oddly it covers FA Cup and League games but not leasing.com games... however you can't play in the leasing game either so effectively a four game ban.

Not sure Scunthorpe's intentions with their lad but hopefully we can get it sorted.

Yeah this was an issue that came up when they first introduced U23 teams into the tournament that sums up perfectly how well thought through the whole sham was.

On the one hand, they want to believe that this is a highly regarded competition that teams should be taking seriously, you can't say that and then allow suspended players to play in it because then it clearly isn't a 'proper' competition.

On the other hand they know that it is a tinpot atrocity and that most teams would consider it a bonus if their suspended player could serve out one game of their suspension in a competition nobody cares about and where they probably won't even play their first team in any case.

So they kind of mash both those attitudes together and get this stupid bastardised idea where it both is and isn't a proper senior fixture.

Chances are we wouldn't risk Worrall anyway as he is carrying a niggling injury so the enforced break wouldn't then be worth losing with that but crazy as teams who wanted to use said player can't and suffer the extra game ban purely because the fixture falls when it does.

As below par as we were after the break you were far better on the day than Bradford or Crewe who we’ve placed recently, I’d be surprised if you didn’t climb the table fairly rapidly now and your form suggests you’ve turned the corner.

Our full backs in the main have been excellent recently, Gibbons one of the player of the season contenders and has a few big clubs allegedly watching him, once both were booked though it was a difficult afternoon for them to get in to.

So far Scunny are one of the best sides we’ve played on the day.
Gibbons struggled against the pace of our left wideman. Any scouts watching will have noted that.

Wozza and Lund both lose their appeal much to the anger of both managers with Scunthorpe's actually suggesting the referee has said things happened that "clearly didnt"

Meanwhile both clubs are being charged by the FA (second time for us after Orient) all very petty, as Askey says if someone grabs a team mate by the throat are you just to stand and watch?

Extra game ban?

No and yes... its a 3 game ban but because the leasing game falls in between those three games despite not counting he cant be selected so we are reporting it as 4 game ban (presumably to make a point)

Lund has only been suspended for 3 games rather than 4, I assume this is as he wasn't the instigator in the situation? Seems so odd

Worrall is 3 games technically but can’t play the leasing game even though he’s not officially banned from that game due to FA rules that it has to be all football activity. So we’ve announced it as 4.

A few rumours/ tweets flying about that Robbie Williams may be on the verge of announcing a gig at Vale Park.

Would be massive news if we have managed to pull it off and Vale take a percentage of the takings.

Matty Palmer still not played for us since Lund’s tackle that saw him sent off, I thought you got an extra game if you’ve had a red already?

At the start of that post, I was expecting the Robbie was going to be taking over...
