Like I say we need a clear out, Bishop can go to County, in the right pairing he can still do it down there, Macca needs moving on desperately too. Midfield is our main problem.

I've always rated Macca the few times I've seen him but then again Stags often looked worldbeaters against Notts.

Again, lovely offer and it's a position we need to strengthen but an over the hill Neal Bishop isn't going to get in the side once Jim O'Brien is back fit. Not even a decision to make.

We had he was 29 years old , we don't want him when he's 39 lol

Oh yeah, completely agree about those 2 - bish could still do a job at that level for sure, he’s just not the legs for league football anymore, som team with less ability/quality like chesterfield or county would be ideal or him for half a season - though in bishops defence GC shouldn’t have played him in the first place given the Cambridge game a few days before

As for macca, if you were there and saw him going mental at the fans that’s was us guilty as charged - coming over clapping giving the thumbs up after that. He’s a total fraud of a football player. “He puts in the effort” is all you hear, well that’s nice - id put in all the effort I had to beat usain bolt in a race - doesn’t mean I’ll win or be any good at it. Tomlinson needs someone beside him or advice on the pitch to allow him to thrive - he’s going in the wrong direction also.

Mellis put in a good performance at Cambridge - but as I said on the way back - “that’ll be his good performance for the month” not reliable at all.

Someone in on loan, maybe 2 - with the view to a move - would remedy the situation until the summer when we can start again. This season is already over.

Weirdly we are in a position where the players we want gone will likely do a good job elsewhere, Bish at County, Macca at another L2 club - it’s just not working here anymore.

No comparison between Plymouth and these - Plymouth are a much bigger club and would easily average 20k plus in the Premiership - and that's their own fans,

attendances were good when Plymbury ( ahem) were in the Championship it was a great opportunity for Devon folk and the Cornish just to see good quality and ex-Premier teams on their doorstep without travelling much, nothing to do with being a greeny

He wasn’t the best all round in honesty, whereas he certainly gave a few soft decisions our way in general he was poor and there was no argument over the red it was a stupid challenge.

Guess we’ve both won at each other’s places with 10 men this season!

Still don’t want to talk about that performance on us though, astonishing - it was like being in the conference again!
Yeah if he’s giving soft fouls both ways then it’s fair enough but it felt like there were quite a few where he didn’t give us them the other way, one in the second half where he played on and you nearly scored from it, firing one just over the bar. I think that helped the atmosphere though as we felt like we were being wronged so it cranked up the volume. What about this save from McKeown too, I thought that he’d parried it into the net at first.

That was embarrassing yesterday, it was a fantastic result for Grimsby, not a great performance but if you win away from home with 10 men for most of it who cares? We basically lost due to a lack of effort, despite Grimsby clearly being a poor side like ourselves they actually played with a bit of passion in that second half and ran around a lot, it took a own goal to win it but I think they deserved it still.

There were absolute no movement whatsoever, although Maynard should have won the game with that 1v1. We need a major clear out, the manager has got to be brutal on these bunch of jobsworths, I never want to see Bishop play again either, he can go to County or something.

Side note I think our home crowds deserve praise, considering how poor we have been all season.
I was just pleased to see us trying to pass it around rather than the hoofing we’ve been watching all season, a bit scary when our back 4 are doing it ala FGR but I think we’ll get better at it the more Holloway’s influence kicks in.
Agree re Maynard’s chance too he should have buried that and if he does then we lose that game 2 or 3 nil.

I think 4,400 home fans given the absolute dross we’ve had served up this season at field mill is a great effort - I dare say not that many will turn up next week against FG.

Such a sorry performance though. The movement was so slow, laboured and predictable we still wouldn’t have scored now.

There is much work to be done let’s say.

Easter Monday bauy - I know you're looking forward to it !

If it's true that Mansfield are slow and laboured then next week is going to be a fucking snore fest. Two sides that play in slow motion. Be like watching a pre season game played in 35 degrees in Spain or somewhere, only it will be 5 degrees and in Mansfield.

Well we’ll have gone to Stevenage on Easter Friday, had a lads weekend away in Gdańsk and back early Monday for that game, so yeah I’m sure that weekend will be great!

I only say county because of his connections there, whether he’s good enough I wouldn’t know, as it’s not league football it doesn’t really get the coverage, but yeah he certainly would do a job in the conference still. He’s a good lad and still got quality but his legs are gone - which given he’s 40 odd is understandable.

Just find it astonishing we’ve such a budget and he’s one of the better midfielders we’ve got. Says it all really.

Much work needed.

that’s very true, I watched chesterfield and notts county back in October (couldn’t resist) and was astonished how bad it was, I forgot the standard down there, both worse than any side I’ve seen in league 2 this season.

I guess what I should have said is coverage not worth watching, though yesterday would have probably not been far off that standard, a limited Grimsby side beating a thoroughly hopeless Mansfield side who still wouldn’t have scored had they been playing now.

Hopefully the £40k prize money netted by dispatching Ipswich Town from the Tin-Pot Trophy yesterday will help King Matt Taylor fund a left sided player to cover for the injured Jack Sparkes.

I would agree we had more threat after he went off, but when he was on we had far more of the ball, as soon as he went off, Mansfield had so much more possession because there was no one holding the ball up top anymore.

Luckily Mansfield were poor and did nothing with it but anyone else and we were just inviting pressure once Ogbu went off. He did have a decent game and was drawing fouls from their back line which didn't happen with Rose.

What happened with Rose on was we scored.

As regards Mansfield putting pressure on us more was mainly down to the fact we defended deep and it wasn't really till late on when they were piling men forward that they looked anything like scoring.

did we? I remember having that shot which was straight at your keeper that you or I would have saved.

We had absolutely nothing up our sleeve to suggest we were going to score, all teams have to do is sit back and chill as we won’t score.

Though the new manager had come in, there is still an element of real hostility from the Mansfield fans at home towards the players, though the fans do their best at the start of the game

Other than the 1v1 and I remember your goalie pulling off a rate save afterwards too.

Rose who had nothing to do with the goal other than accidentally missing the ball which ended up being a great dummy. Don't get me wrong I like Rose but to say taking Ogbu off helped us is wrong, we had a lot of procession in the first half with 10 men because the ball was sticking up top with Ogbu or drawing fouls for set prices which unfortunately we kept wasting. It obviously worked in the end but I and many others were confused why we was taking Ogbu off when he was having a good game and doing what was needed as a lone striker with only 10 men.

When Ogbu went off Mansfield had nearly all the possession other than our rare counter attacks. Agree with Mansfield fans too, despite all their possession they never looked like scoring all their shots were long range efforts, with the only real danger shot being straight at McKeown and the last kick of the game which was more to do with McKeown being out of position. We didn't have many chances either, the goal obviously, Clifton with his run and then wasted shot and Vernams effort just before half time which was also unfortunately straight at the keeper.

Their best chance was in the first half with the one on one and even that came from our mistake with both defenders going for the same ball and missing it.

Is that the one from Rose’s header? Couldn’t believe he managed to keep that out, although the flag turned out to be up anyway but they didn’t know that.

I’ve been pretty lucky with my recent trips to Mansfield, in the 4 times there since we’ve been back in the league we’ve twice been completely outplayed and lost and twice we’ve gone and won 1-0, and the two games I went to were both of the 1-0 wins.
My Daughter isn’t really into football at all but she had to go with us yesterday as my missus was working but she loved it and now she’s got the bug and wants to go to another one.
Another new GTFC fan in the bag. :bg:

Sounds like Tom Pope is going to be investigated again for his tweets, what an idiot. He needs to delete his Twitter account or just stop talking. I would be fuming if I was Vales boss if he gets suspended again

Yeah I think so.

What a idiot Waterfall is too, I know weirdly that sending off helped you but what a ridiculous challenge so early on, dock some wages for that.

In fairness we had macca in midfield so it was basically 10v10 anyway.

The challenge from waterfall was madness

It wasn’t an anti Semitic comment at all but he’s currently in the National and international news for his tweets so was not the cleverest thing to tweet maybe whilst the press are interested in him!

I will be annoyed if he gets a ban for that but this is the FA so probably will.

Yeah strangely your manager doesn’t think it was a red but for me even as a Town supporter I’ve no complaints with it, at the time I didn’t think it was and thought your guy was play acting and thought the ref had fuelled for it but at half time someone had posted a clip of it on Twitter and it’s a definite red for me.

We’ve had enough reds this season (though not for a while) but yeah it looked a red to me, actually I thought the ref was going to give a yellow.

I don’t think most of the fouls your fans went mental at were bad decisions - yeah he got some wrong - but after the red and being behind the goal I can see how your fans saw it how they did - id have probably done the same in honesty.

I was unsure at the time, but looking at the replay you can see why the referee gave it. I also thought a yellow was coming because he took a while to get the card out.

Thing is he’s encouraged by you lot, and the ‘it’s just how he is’ attitude, the club need to tell him to stop.

What didn’t help was when you had all those early corners one of them your guy headed over and all your players were heading back to the halfway line ready for a goal kick and he goes and gives you another corner, even your own players looked baffled. I think that set the tone and then it seemed that all your fouls he gave you straight away whereas all ours he probably gave us about half of them and then played on the rest. I will say though that towards the end he did start giving us most of them which was helpful in letting us run the clock down.
