Or semi final like we did in 2001 losing 2-1 to Liverpool's first XI. :bravo:
We've been to the Semi Finals twice*.................. :ds:

Luton might even struggle to be honest, it seems that the gap is widening between L2 and L1 and promoted teams the last few seasons rarely flourish.

Its not that strong to be honest, the level is better of course and mistakes more ruthlessly punished, the first season we were back in league one you had the likes of Brentford, Wolves, Sheffield United, Coventry were half decent then etc, now you've not got that much to fear in there. We were shocked how bad Oxford were in the cup and they have been around the play offs.

We’re not exactly going to be pushing for promotion next year if we do get promoted, but I think a play off push would be achievable. We’re an ambitious club; I don’t think our senior management would settle for going nowhere.

Luton will be a Premier League club by the end of the century imo. Lot of potential.

Oxford and Bristol Rovers done alright last season and Pompey doing well this season too. Even Blackpool are mid-table currently and they were shite last season really, finished miles behind us in the league (and we were pretty shite last season too by and large). If you've got a bit of cash to add quality where needed I don't think there's a huge gap for the most part.

Looking at recently departed former Luton players in the league I find it hard to imagine a huge gulf... Shaun Whalley at Shrewsbury couldn't get in our team in the Conference or in an attacking-neutered League Two team a couple of years back, Mark Cullen a bang average League Two forward, Alex Lacey looked poor in League Two for us, Jack Marriott ripping the league up despite struggling to get in our team last season (although I do rate him highly).

Whalley is the truely bizarre one out of that lot, looked a totally bog standard conference level winger during his time here. Had the odd good moment, think he scored twice in a game once with both goals being real quality ones, but that’s about it.

Really shows there’s a lot of factors at play in how a player performs at a club outside of just pure ability (although I would assume he has improved there too).

We've just spent pretty much 20 years in League One and it isn't that great - albeit League Two is still noticeably worse. Anyone going up would add a few signings and the bottom half teams wouldn't be much different really.

There is a gap between divisions 3 & 4 but defo not as big as a gap between3 and the championship. I reckon Luton could do quite well but its the second season going back up its the trickier. We are finding this out now having kept most of the players that got us back here. Half of them are not good enough and hopefully with our "wealthy owners" we will spend in jan in order to stay up.I know the size of a gate is not everything but how the hell can you progress up the divisions with average crowds under 4k ?

Second season is hardest as you go up confident and on the crest, we finished 9th first season back up then nearly went down the second year (despite being on 48 points with 11 to go!)

I think finances come into play more in the second season, as you say first season up you get the motivational "bounce" and them after that the players from the lower level start to get found out and redeveloping the team becomes more important.

Depends... after finishing just outside the playoffs in our first season we should really have gone up automatically the following season, just threw it all away with some poor form late in the season.

The Grimsby/Matt Dean saga rumbles on.

Matt Dean‏ @mattdeanradio 21h21 hours ago
An apology to the fans. Had planned to do a BBC Look North piece tomorrow on #gtfc’s game at Luton. The club invited me to today’s press conference, my first since the fans forum. However Russell Slade refused to talk to me and denied me access to speak with players.

Newport have had a whole stand closed because of people throwing objects at the dug-out areas - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42441283

FGR, for some reason, didn't pay for an operation for an injured player even though the injury was sustained while he was contracted to them and had a year left on his deal, albeit out on loan at the time - http://www.gloucestershirelive.co.u...ews/forest-green-rovers-captain-forced-944134
A small section of the Hazell terrace behind the away dug out will be kept clear for 2 games. Rest of the terrace and stand above will be in use as normal. Curle got a bit carried away celebrating a goal last week and some muppet threw something at him.

I don’t know how, with the absolute shite served up at the County Ground, that people could get so worked up that 10 STFC fans got arrested against Newport.

I’m surprised they weren’t still asleep.

Newport for us today. No injuries, trained at Villa yesterday on the way across.

Can't imagine we'll make any first XI or squad changes from the Accrington game.

Routine away win at Crewe. Much needed after a poor run of 5 defeats. Don’t even think there is a matchday thread so posting it here.

Mind the gap - Kenny

FGR will not go down - Carlisle fans

We won but Evans should still get the sack- Staggies

Notts Co aren't a certainty for the top 3. We haven't scored an away goal since September but got three today at ML - Yours truly

The opposition usually say something kind after theyve taken all the points. Staying up would involve getting a few ourselves and we sounded dire again today.

Feels a bit of a missed opportunity to jump to 3rd today given other results and playing against 10 men for 30 minutes or so, although it doesn't read as though too much happened in the game so I'm assuming both teams cancelled each other out a bit.

Well we've got abuse and threats passing between our players and (mongrel) fans now. We're a club in crisis.

Fuck off McGhee. Fuck off TK.

Another clueless L2 ref on show today - straight ref for O’Brien was a joke. The twat even cautioned a steward.
Thought we were direct but Lincoln are at another level. You know what’s coming but tricky to stop, just constant long balls to the bus driver and Palmer. Crowding the ref at every chance, shirt pulling, chopsing all the time. Fecking horrible team. Plus the chuckle bros on the bench were great value.
Good turnout from the Lincoln fans, think it was 483. Makes a change hearing the away end singing so well done.
Decent point in the end. Onwards to Wycombe and Cheltnum.

JCR was absolutely the wrong target, but the anger is totally justified.

Cowley didn't think it was a red either, although he said that the player could've just tactically fouled Green(?) and not gone in as strong as he did and trying to leave one on him.

He's got £1.20 he wants to return to the Newport fans.

Have to agree with Vanni too - for all the fans that have said FGR won’t go down because they played alright, they keep losing games. At some point, it’ll be too late.

Agreed, but I reckon it's a bit odd tbh. Personally, I don't mind congratulating the opposition if they deservedly beat us. OTOH, I also don't like to claim that we were poor every time we lose a game, as I find it all very unfair on the opposing fans. I'm not saying being poor on the day doesn't help the other side, of course it does, but there are times when your side looks poor only because the opposition are making you look poor.
