pretty comfortable win in the end against an underwhelming Stanley. You expect JC's teams to play with unerring desire and hunger, but first half they didn't really at all and we bossed them. Should have scored more, but Bennett up front didn't help matters. That said, we did have Bonham to thank for being quicker to a ball that Devitt passed to nobody.

As expected they came out meaning business in the second half while we were lethargic, and quickly earned a penalty, which they put away. For a while after that they did have the run of the game, but we gradually found our feet. The difference was then bringing Miller on for Bennett. Miller is ten times the striker Bennett is and quickly proved it. John O'Sullivan too was excellent after coming on while Hallam Hope had his best game in a United shirt. I would say though that we showed today just how quickly we can go from awesome to awful and back again.

more of the same against Coventry please.

They were poor, but it shouldn’t take away the fact that we were excellent for the first 45 and last 20 minutes. We should have been out of sight really. Devitt and Hope guilty of missing easy chances, pretty much open goals. The game was fading out and heading for a 1-1 which would have been 2 points utterly pissed away. I was thinking this is typical of us, playing well, missing chances and dropping points but thankfully Shaun miller produced a moment of class to get us what we deserved. They were never going to comeback after that then Grainger made sure.

I think this system suits us, but no doubt when a result goes against us Curle will change us back to our boring park the bus formation / tactics. Really I’d like us to stick with this 3-5-2 system for a good run of games. I do however still think we need a striker to take Bennett’s place if we are going to get a place in the top 7.

agree with that. I would say same line up against Coventry, but miller for Bennett. We just need the belief too, and we need an earlyish goal or else the fans will turn.

Good win for vale and we are doing really well under aspin but we have got no chance in our next 2 games Luton at home and Notts county away take 1 nil defeats as it's most likely going be 5 nil in both games.

Best I've seen us in the league this season, some great moments from us today and deserved the 3 points. Hope, Devitt, Jones, Parkes were all brilliant and everybody else put in a shift, another great strike from Shaun Miller to give us the lead again.

6 points off third, somehow.

Pretty much given up on this season already. Awful football and in a totally false league position. I'll be shocked if we finish any higher than 12th.

11 league goals with a goal every 128 minutes from midfield for Sammie Szmodics now this season - hopefully he's past his injury troubles now and can have a prolonged run in the team.

Looking at John Colemans post match comments I'd be interested to know which match he was watching, because he wasn't watching the one at Brunton Park.

We're third in the league with Matt Rhead, Matt Green and Nathan Arnold in our team...I'd like to see some apologies issued. Those that questioned why we hero worship the Cowleys probably understand now. Over 9,000 home fans at Sincil Bank today - I wonder if those "jumping on the bandwagon" will stick it out for the rest of the season, eh?

Oh and Son of Cod, if there's any chance you're reading this - what do you make of our play-off chances now?

He was the same in our recent games against us, too.

"I don't want to come across as a whinger, but...". Spends four minutes making excuses.

Still not entirely sure what a ‘Cowley’ is.

He’s like it after every game they don’t win, accused us of playing with 2 goalkeepers bizarrely, and then had a moan about a penalty that was as stonewall as they come.

To be fair he must sort of need to do that, they don’t have too many resources so generating that backs to the wall, everyone is out to get us mentality is probably at least part of what he does to ensure they do as well as they have have done.

Surely you don’t know if they’re bandwagon jumpers until you start losing? Anyway, we’ll see what Crowley is made of when Raggett goes. If Lincoln are still 3rd at the end of Jan, then we’ll start talking.

Yeah, true, I think it's a mentality thing he needs to get. I just worry he believes what he says!

Seriously? We’ve taken 23 points from our last 12 games under Aspin, why would we fear losing 5-0? Luton will be a tough one as will County but our form is automatic promotion since game 13 so no reason to be negative. Just pissed off we didn’t get Aspo in the summer, we’d be top 7.

We've been mid-table until recently. I don't expect us to finish in the top 3, but I expect us to challenge for the play-offs like I said at the start of the season. That's all Lincoln fans ever said and we were ridiculed for it.

Not sure I’d start Miller. He tends to do fuck all when he starts games and is more effective off the bench when defenders are tiring.

Not by me, thank god! Though I was a pro-Cheltenham guy last year so you can’t win them all. Admittedly you’ve had an easier run these last few games but it’s certainly impressive, especially with only a small group of players.

We’re not Luton, but we are unbeaten since October.

Grant looks set to stay unless Forest receive a huge offer, if he goes, we lose a huge attacking outlet and a big part of the way we play. If he stays we’ll be up there. He’s not a 90 minute player but in the 15 minutes he does turn up in, he basically takes the piss. I hope teams continue to underestimate Notts as that plays into our hands.

Nolan is a big part of our success. Him and the Chairman get on very well. I can’t see him taking a risk and going somewhere else unless he knows he’s going to get a good chairman. Money isn’t that important to an ex player who was on 40k per week... especially one that had to put up with Bechetti. I can’t see a premier league team taking a punt on him either.

Lincoln and Colchester both looking in good form. The game at Sincil Bank is going to be tasty, looking forward to it.

Congratulations to Luton on achieving safety btw

May at well start Cosgrove or Rigg then :) OK Bennetts had a handful of decent performances but not many and he did nothing today.

It’s exactly why I think we have to sign a new striker if we’re to have a chance of getting top 7.

Miller is a good impact player to have off the bench. Bennett has one half decent game every 6 games or something.

Surely if we get rid of Cosgrove and Rigg, then try to offload Ellis and Nabi, we’ll be able to sign someone. There are bound to be players on the fringes of championship teams who we could get, like we did Wyke.

possibly. I don't think were guaranteed a Wyke, there's probably more shit players than decent out there. We did have to pay for Wyke so we'd need to get the chequebook out to get a similar player I think, and hope Luton don't sign him just because they can. Nabi, Rigg and Cosgrove are probably on so little that it would barely go towards it, It's Ellis I think is possibly on a fair whack, and fgr I think still want him. I think Nabi is worth keeping, the other two have had chances and not taken them. Nabi hasn't and seems to have some kind of natural talent which we may find useful.

We don't need to sign anyone to block other teams. Its not like the Conf with only one Auto Spot where that is/was a legit tactic if you had money and a close rival. I think with three spots we're comfortable with our current squad if we don't get raided from above in the window.

But one or two good signings by a team in the window could propel any number of teams into the auto promotion picture.

Lincoln in 3rd I can understand. Out of the relatively small sample that I have seen us play this season they were the best organised and most up for it.

Yesterday was another milestone in how far we've come since the disastrous start under Brown. That was a game we once again would have lost easily.

Without looking at other fixtures I'd say our Christmas fixture list has been one of the toughest down at the bottom but to come out of it with the points we have so far the next two games are almost bonus games. Our next two will be very tough, but you know what, let's give it a go. We've nothing to lose now and we really shouldn't fear anybody in this division with the form we're in.

I saw the Cambridge as a must win on Dec 9th as we really potentially could lose the following five. We beat them and then with the Yeovil debacle before Carlisle with the red cards and extra time that looked a tough ask there but credit to them two more wins and a draw.

Anything from these two games would be a bonus. Take a point from the two games if offered.
