I would happily take Torquay, not too far an away trip for us and one of the closest for them...we have lost Cheltenham from the West Country mini-league, it would be nice to gain a third new member in addition to Swindon and the Gas.
You forget Exeter.

I would never forget Exeter, a really good day out...I usually include Newport in the same category as it is close enough to feel neighbourly, will have to wait until later today to see if their club membership has been renewed or if they are hanging on to Cheltenham's coat-tails and leaving us for pastures new.

'Lethal' Lee Power has sold Waterford FC to a company that doesn't appear to exist on Companies House, at least none have any directors matching the name given in the press release on the Waterford website.

Can't wait for this guy to get out of the club. Just hope the next custodians are less dodgy!!

Please let an actual traditional league club win the playoffs, next season looks non league enough without adding Bromley into the mix.

Also, £4m has gone missing from the director’s account at STFC. No wonder he’s wriggling on a hook.

Anyone know anything about darren kelly former scarborough manager? as apparently he is our new sporting director.
Confirmed,
Don't fill me with much confidence after seeing his track record at oldham and halifax.

Didn't he have to leave a club because he was a massive fan of the IRA?

Suppose it all depends on what his actual remit is. The other issue is whether Michael Flynn is on board with it. If he isn’t this could go sour very quickly.

Not sure I’d read too much into his time at Oldham. Most appointments there only last a couple of months so he’s really just done par for the course with that job.

Looks like the game is up for Lee Power after yesterday’s court hearing. To cut a very long story short he tried to sell the club without telling other shareholders to a mythical company called Able (which we think was just a front for himself). He agreed to sell the club for just £250,000. When the other shareholders found out they got an injunction to prevent it. They offered to purchase the club for £7,5m but Power only wanted to sell to Able.

Now, here’s the funny bit. Because of what’s call pre emption rights Power had to offer the club to existing shareholders first and because he was willing to sell to Able for £250,000 that’s all the other shareholders have to pay! All this was confirmed by the judge yesterday. He’s squirming like fuck now and by being a crooked, fat twat done himself out of £7.25m.

well i'd say that if the others only have to pay £250k and pending any appeals (Power is bound to appeal isn't he?) things will either look a lot better for Swindon if things can be sorted relatively quickly OR the other hand if he appeals and it drags on for ages he won't be putting in any money at all - and withdrawing as much as he can manage - which could seriously mess things up for Swindon....

He’s already charging the club £14,000 a month on loans. The judge has made it very clear he needs to sort it out now as he may well force him to hand over the club. I presume Power is playing for time to attempt to clean up any dodgy dealings. He has to prove to the judge he had the finances in place to fund the club until September when there’s a trial to decide if Michael Standing owns 50% of Power’s shares in the club. That’s why we have an embargo on buying STs, merchandise or attending games to starve him of funds. There is an injunction in place preventing him putting the club in admin.

The worst case scenario, I think, is that we have to write off this season on the pitch if he drags out until September. A price well worth paying.

so basically you'll (in the worst case scenario) start next season like Southend started last season - but when the January window comes you have new owners in charge and get the chance to rebuild and try and stay up?

Tbf, we have signed a couple of decent looking players already. But, as the prospective new owners said to the judge, if Power has to sell them the club it should be them making decisions on players and their contracts and not him. The judge was getting very frustrated by the lack of information from Power - who asked for an adjournment because his solicitor had been on holiday and wasn’t up to speed!

We’ll certainly not be any great shakes to start with for sure, but maybe we could do a Bolton after January!

I think in Wollacott and Sweeney that's a good start to recruitment. The manager also seems competent. If we can sort this sale to Clem out, season ticket sales should fly out the door, he's promised better comms, a better community presence etc. On paper times look better. Let's see how that goes but I'm reasonably optimistic.

So, just why has Power bothered to sign a manager and players? That’s what’s made me a bit twitchy.

I can only think it’s to give the appearance to the judge that he’s a genuine custodian of the club :fl: :fl: :fl:

Possibly. God only knows what goes through his useless head.

Not useless AG, just crooked. It's sickening that clubs with a fine history have to go through this, not least for the fans. I look what happened to us and then think of Bury, Chesterfield, Wrexham and Notts County and realise it could have been worse.

Could have been us a few weeks ago, but fortunately the EGM, removal of two directors (including the CEO) and subsequent recruitment of three new directors (all local businessmen and long time fans) has (hopefully) drawn a line under things.

Has put a temporary hiatus on out of contract players re-signing (hopefully they all will, although Eoghan O'Connell in particular could do a good job at an upper end L1 club). Then there's the contracted players who we might get bids for, principally Olly Rathbone and Steven Humphrys. So our squad seems to be a bit up in the air at the moment.

Interesting times - we could finish anywhere from 1st to 24th next season depending mostly on whether we sign some solid, competent defenders (ex-players Rhys Bennett, Joe Rafferty, Harrison McGahey, Rory Delaney all spring to mind, young Gabriel Osho looked useful on loan from Luton last year, while Cian Bolger has always looked decent against us, and seems to be a no-frills stopper). Midfield and up front, we should be OK (if Humps is sold, I wouldn't mind Theo Robinson, tbh - not a worldbeater, but would be a useful foil to some of our youngsters), while Jay Lynch (if he re-signs) is a competent keeper.

How was Alex Newby for you last season?

Yeah you are absolutely right. Dishonest, shady and crooked. Too many of these characters about. Would be great if there was a proper reform to ensure clubs can't have these spurious characters running football clubs. Fit and proper my erse piece.

Started excellently, scored half a dozen goals. Faded later in the season - probably not his fault, but we were playing wing backs rather than wingers, so he sort of flitted between attacking midfield, second striker and substitute. Hope he does well this season.
