I agree with having the same amount of promotions and relegations through the EFL. I don't think I've ever seen any reasoning why it's ended up differently?
I thought the four up from league 2/div 4 was to do with the end of regionalisation. Div 3 north and south were promoting 2 teams each so they just carried on.

No, Div 3N&S only promoted one team each to Div 2.
Div 3 when regionalisation ended started with four down so four up from Div 4.
The four down comes from the four (2 from south and 2 from north) applying for re-election.

Bradford and Grimsby fans (maybe Colchester too). Remember Scott Neilson?

He's been arrested and extradited to the USA on international fraud charges.

Obviously I have no idea if he is guilty or not but I thought Id mention it.

the quality of the conference playoffs last season was extraordinarily poor.

Yep, saw he was part of some kind of scam a while back. He's more than likely guilty of something even if he's not the ringleader, wouldn't have though the US would go to the trouble of extraditing if he wasn't. Scamming old people out of pensions I believe it is?

Was too good for the Conference on his day, but didn't really have the best attitude. Probably what prevented him from keeping his place in your squad when you went up.

The one big difference (again grimsby and stockport fans will know more) is usually the pace of the game, stockport looked alright when they came to mansfield but after the wonder goal by sarcovic we stepped up the gears and pace and they didn’t really have much of answer, sort that out and half the battle has been won.
Agree that the pace of the game is one of the things that is noticeably different, but to be honest we've only really seen Orient and Swindon that moved the ball and attacked with that much swift conviction. Everyone else we've played hasn't looked particularly better than the top 5/6 in the Conference, which buys into what a fair few people are saying in that the gap between the top of the Conference and midtable L2 isn't massive at all.
It’s hard to gauge a side on a few games, but for instance the quality of the conference playoffs last season was extraordinarily poor, was really surprised.
You obviously weren't paying attention to McAtee, particularly in the Wrexham game. Absolutely unreal performance. Stunning goal, two assists (one of which was absolutely class) and another rocket disallowed. Ran the show. Ben Fox insane performance away at Notts too. If we're using the playoff matches as gauges, Stags vs Cobblers was absolutely drab as fuck and miles behind the Conference playoffs for both drama and quality so your argument falls flat on its face there.

22 goals in the 5 National League playoff matches last season.
11 goals in the 5 League 2 playoff matches last season.

I know which one I'd be rewatching (even as a neutral) if I had to rewatch one in its entirety.

I was an advocate for 3 up/3 down even in the many seasons we were in the bottom half of league 2. There’s no difference in my mind between promotion from the conference to league 2 and the promotion from league 2 to league 1, or any of the other “nation wide” promotions. All should be 24 team leagues with 3 up 3 down.

The only reason it’s not that way is the self interest of clubs in the bottom half of league 2, it’s not for the greater good of football.
This is my view now, as my team sit in the bottom 2 and have flirted with the drop before.
I've always found it a bit crap that a team could finish 2nd on GD in the NL and stay down. Just standardise the promotion spaces for the EFL and PL.

The scumbag was head of an operation fleecing vulnerable elderly people and laundering money.

Remember the name but cannot remember how he did for us, so obviously didn't leave any impression on me at all

Sonny Hilton out injured for 8 weeks.

OK this is getting silly, the only thing I can think is that one of the Barra fans is sneaking round our training pitch nobbling our players when nobody is looking.

Currently our injury list stands as follows:

Morgan Feeney (CB)
Ben Barclay (CB)
Joel Senior (RB)
Josh Dixon (CM)
Jamie Devitt (AM)
Sonny Hilton (AM)
Brennan Dickenson (W/F)
Omari Patrick (W/F)
Tobi Sho-Silva (F)
Ryan Edmondson (F)

That's 10 players in a senior squad of 28
Simmo actually said there was 11 but not who the 11th is.

Looks a bit like ours last season, hopefully it won’t last as long as ours, which has lingered into this season

Scott Simons

We can actually name a starting 11 of injured players.

Simons
Senior Barclay Feeney Dickenson
Dixon Devitt Hilton
Sho-Silva Edmondson Patrick

I'm sure one or two more will have dropped injured by Saturday.

Think we signed him from Cambridge City for about £35k.

I rated him at the time. I think he made his debut against Rochdale in the cup back in 2009 - the first away win I ever saw (3-1?).

We sent him on loan to Cambridge United and then sold him to money bags Crawley for more than we paid for him.

He couldn’t settle, but a decent talent.

I’ve really tried hard here to think of a pun with Hilton to do with either hotels or Paris and I simply can’t think of one.

Disappointed in myself to be honest. :(

A Premier (inn) player imho.

Needs to play in a 6-5-0-0-0 system to get the best, out of him (very old people will get that....a Glenn Miller tune).

Last time I saw him he was putting on a Ritzy performance.

Shocking defending!
Haha for once I agree with you,

Made for one hell of a game though, I was at work after this game and the whole night it felt like I was on whizz I was buzzing my tits off for the whole shift.

Goals do not necessarily equate to a good game.
That's park football, or someone who only enjoys the goal highlights of games.

We've managed that this season too. Feels good. Great news for Swindon.

Thanks SOD. Yeah we've had huge issues off the pitch for decades (we can't get rid of the 'swindle' nickname!) So this does seem big. Next step is to pay off the deposit for the ground in January and get the old dear up to modern standards, the plan is to put a roof on the stand behind the goal (and hopefully use it for away fans in my mind) and then completely renovated the opposite end making it into one huge stand with hotel and conference facilities etc. Obviously since the estimated cost of that was put together the costs will have spiralled so not sure if the plans may need to be tweaked, but the fact we are even talking about it, is an immense for us and the current owners should be applauded.
