Massive win for us if only for confidence. With 3 home games from our last 4 I'm now confident we will get in the play offs. The game in hand against Lincoln looking like it could be a decider.

Defensive football, since they moved grounds they've lost the home advantage Christie Park gave them. I think they've never won more than 8 games at home in a season there. Not to mention they play most their games to draw so it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they've had the most draws in the top 4 leagues since Bentley took over.

It's most certainly a factor, a lot of people don't bother anymore because it is most of the time horrible to watch, our home record as mentioned since the ground move speaks for itself. The majority of the town just simply don't care, it's full of armchair Prem fans and they have never bothered unless it's a big cup game or the free game against Dagenham. There are others who have been alienated by the club, others who have never agreed with the groundmove (which was via a loophole) etc etc. The list goes on!

Add to that the whole ownership situation, the club is on it's arse. Jim is working a miracle every year.

I enjoyed today's game though, a good solid point. Drawing our way to safety. Devitt's goal was superb, would love to have him and Stockton back.

Offered me tenth place next season I'd take it too!

An intercepted crossfield pass led to a free kick that led to Coventry's first goal. An intercepted pass led to the move that led to Coventry's second goal and an intercepted sideways pass led to Coventry's miss of the season! Did you spot the common thread there? You're right. We're shit!

I've seen us be shit many times but at least we had a go. The last three seasons we have been shit and not really tried to win a game. I'm bored with it.

Good luck to the sky blues. Deserved winners today.

Interested to hear if things are looking up for Swindon since they managed to con Mansfield into taking their manager?

First half and first 10 mins of second half were an inept, passion free and virtually event free kick-around but apparently that was the plan. Kept our limited powder dry until we were playing towards the Amber Army rather than Circus Vegas Big Top across the road (yet another 3 sided ground this season). Then we withdrew the blessed Melito and released the Corr - scored with his first touch, looping header from another pinpoint Maris free-kick. Wrapped up the match with a a magnificent ticka tacka passing display around the penalty area - finished from 2 yards by the Corrminator. Looking forward to watching it on the telly.

Wish I'd been more optimistic about our chances but I misjudged how limited the oppostion was and how on-form our Caretaker First Team Coach is. The sun brought out a decent number of pay-on-the day U's fans as well. Kept the Boro from picking up the Mid-table title. Edit: Apparently they'd already got a share in it before 3 p.m. thanks to Spiirites losing in the early kick off.

I didn’t go (first time I’ve missed Stevenage away since the play off game there) but the win is a pleasing result even if we set out to bore everyone to death first.

Corr is something of a hero isn’t he? I was all up for releasing him at the end of the season but he does have a certain quality that only two or three other strikers in this division have. I mean, he’s League 1 quality really. He just has the body of a pensioner!

A sub-thousand U’s following is symbolic of how our season has gone and the disconnect between club and fans at the moment. I’m glad those there were able to enjoy a win there again, especially after Dino’s comments in the week.

I reckon Stevenage and Cheltenham won the mid table cup prior to their kick offs today unfortunately/fortunately.

Continues to look like we will be the unfortunate lot to meet Exeter in the play offs.
This would be the first time in our history we've made the play offs and only 300 will see our away leg.

Thankfully I have some good friends form Exeter who will hopefully get me a ticket or two...

Things *that* bad?
Hard to say absolutely that we'll struggle next season because our board don't tell us anything until things have already gone wrong and they need a handy excuse, but the fans forum didn't sound very positive last week. Talk is of us spending beyond our means and needing to make savings, and that's with a mid-table budget to begin with, we're gonna be in Morecambe territory next year. Almost inevitable Curle will be gone. They'll go for the cheapest option available as manager next season, probably one who is already on the payroll, and try and force a load of youth players on him.

I always remember when we tried to sign Jamie Devitt in 2016, Steve Davis said we were "blown out of the water" by Carlisle to sign him. In 2017 however, Michael Raynes rejected a contract from you lot to sign for us, so at first I thought Davis' line was bullshit, especially given he was obsessed with saying how inferior our actually decent budget for this level was...

But then it got me thinking when I saw this, what if you decided to go for it last season with signings like Kennedy, Liddle, Adams, Miller and Devitt (all of which wouldn't have come particularly cheap) and the upturn in fans and income never materialised despite you guys having a good year last year? Cos that would be a key reason as to why there's such a shortfall this year too. Especially coming off the back of that payday you got for playing Everton in the FA Cup not so long ago as well...

If Carlisle are going to have to cut costs, I wouldn't mind going after Devitt and/or Adams, both are tidy players at this level and would improve our front line immensely.

Devitt has triggered a contract extension and wants to stay so he likely won't be going anywhere but who knows if you can offer a fee that makes our boards eyes light up.

Adams will probably be available because with his injury plus not knowing who will be managing us next season the board aren't willing to offer him an extension. Adams has come out and said he wants to stay but can't wait indefinitely to find out if he's getting a new contract and may already be looking elsewhere.

At the moment I get the impression that Curle has managed to foster a good squad mentality and a lot of the players specifically want to play for him (even Jabo, with no disrespect to Cambridge said he wished he could have stayed here) so their opinions may change depending on how the whole not offering him a new contract and bringing in a new manager plays out. Knowing our board it will be a mess that will alienate half the players.

Well Raynes chose Crewe over Carlisle mainly because of the length of contract you offered and it being closer to his home. I don't know whether you offered more or the same as us in wages but security is a big deal for players at this level, especially more mature ones. We offered a one year contract, I think you offered two with an extra year to trigger based on appearances.

You may be right about us going for it financially, but our board are far too conservative for me to imagine we'll have tried to compete with the top spending teams in the division. We had a pretty small squad last season with quality in the first team but very little in reserve.

Jason Kennedy is on a basic salary of £1,500 per week. For reasons I can only put down to gross incompetence, our managing director revealed it in response to a question at our recent fans forum. I don't think Curle or the players are very happy with our board for that and apparently had a squad meeting in the week about 'distractions'.

Time for Carver to support some other side then but I don't know. Barrow and Sunderland are shit so I'm afraid only Newcastle stand a remote chance of attracting a new fan.

I'm sure he'll fit in nicely as a Cambridge fan, cufc17 could even join you as he won't need to change his user name.

I think I will become a Cambridge fan so I'll have to move down there, can I stay at yours please just until I find a suitable place of my own?

I’m sure you would gladly take Devitt back, but you can’t be serious about Stockton? I’ve watched him a few times now, and I genuinely can’t believe he’s a professional footballer. I can’t think of anything positive he’s contributed since his arrival, he looks like he’d rather be anywhere else than on the pitch and is just generally awful to watch. Richie Bennett is shite, but he looks world class in comparison.

Another poor quality game, with just 3 games left of this utterly dull season you’d think it can only get better next year, but that’s not looking likely. Decent atmosphere from both sides at times yesterday, enjoyable day in the Morecambe sunshine.

We had Devitt on loan in the Conference a few years back, definite quality there but he will be best remembered here for doing star jumps in front of Mansfield’s defensive wall to try and put them off whilst we were lining up a free kick.

You had a couple of top wingers that season - Devitt and Coulson(?).

I think Coulson was a little bit before that season, the season we had Devitt was the year Mansfield won it but I think Coulson had already left for York by then, I can't remember who else we had as winger that season.

As Fish says, Coulson left for York in 2012. In September of the 12/13 season, we got Marshall and Neilson in on loan. When Neilson left, we got in Devitt who was nowhere near as good as the former two. Though I suspect most teams that season would have been lucky to have any of them!

That Elito is a top player.

Bravo Sir :bravo: You quite clearly know the difference between a League 2 clogger, a pub league dilettante masquerading as a FL player and a quite skilful and talented chap like our Medy (aka Don E). The ability to make a distinction between said types of footy players may sound easy at first, but it's anything but, according to my findings. Sure, it's easy to spot the better players in the PL or Serie A or La Liga, but it's much harder to do that in the lower leagues. For most fellas, if you can run, tackle and head the ball then you're a decent L2 player

I do seem to recall Luke Imp saying 'that Cambridge No 21 looks decent' or words to that effect. So he's another one with this somewhat rare ability of differentiating between L2 players that I'm talking about. Well done to you too Luke mate :bravo:That makes three of us then :cool1:

As for Jabo, I don't think he'll be with us next season, but you're welcome to stay at mine Cufc17 if you decide to start following us. I could also invite Carver I suppose, but I fear he has a habit of waking up in the middle of the night rambling on about our good Lord and saviour Jesus Christ and how we're all going to hell.

Where will Jabo go? I would quite like, for sentimental reasons, to see him end up at Orient, but he is far too good a player to be playing in the Conference. Barnet perhaps, if they stay up, could be a good fit.

The reason we were able to sign him is that he's settled with his new kid and wider family close to Orient and the bottom of the M11. If we were to let hm go, Stevenage or even Wimbledon might be a better fit than Barnet but I'm hoping we'll give him another go. His recent time on the sidelines has been concussion protocol related not ageing striker syndrome.

I'm usually wrong on these things.
