Dreadful performance with a really negative line up today... but arise the holy one to ensure safety is sealed!

Mansfield had plenty of pressure but fairly powder puff... took the bizarrest of own goals... and minutes later Howkins nearly scored another.

Story of our season. Bascially spent virtually the entire game in control, but couldn’t finish to save our lives and the one decent forward on the pitch does what forwards do. We’ve had so many of those games this season - Exeter, Luton, you, Colchester - but it’s our own fault.

If we’d have had a decent forward we could and should have won that 3 or 4, your players were on holidays and begging to be beaten.

And we were doing so well, until agent shitcroft got involved. Take off the best player (though he was tired but you weren’t attacking much as it was) then go stupidly defensive against a team who had offered absolutely nothing until that point. He really is a spectacular clusterfuck of a manager - I can only but hope we’ve something in place to fuck him off in the summer, I can’t begin to state how terrible he is. He’s already lost the vast, vast majority of fans in 10 games. The chairman tweeted a pretty hostile tweet after the game also.

It’s all been quite a brilliant end to the season really

Aspo was furious with the performance in fairness despite safety being assured. I guess we saw the best and worst of Mansfield this season with us dominating at home and losing 4-0 in the most clinical performance imaginable and then the polar opposite yesterday.

The line up was completely nuts considering your form to play a central midfield three of combined age of something like 110! Five years ago that would have been a great midfield but not now.

Not sure why he didn’t stick with the side so good last week!

Your captain was lucky the ball went in or he would be missing next week mind trying to finger tip it over!

Going forward despite two wins in 18 we have a plethora of draws so are not far away, of the few defeats suffered we haven’t lost by more than a goal since November so it bodes well for improving next season.

Aspins first remit was met in keeping us up and in the end it was done with relative comfort from a seemingly doomed situation. As said after the game the real work starts now to get us to the level we want to be at to challenge where the club should be at the top end of the league next season. Will be an equally tough challenge though after two disasterous years.

I think yesterday sums up our season a little bit. Grimsby Town do the double over us.

At home our form has been abysmal and the style of football absolutely appalling. The worst thing is that these teams that have beaten us at home haven’t actually pulled up and trees and we have just been so consistently inept that it’s meant we’ve just not been good enough this season.

Not particularly looking forward to next season at this juncture.

Adam and VF16 both decent summaries chaps.
Vale were totally on the beach and lacklustre, Aspin has done a modern day miracle in keeping this rabble up ( thanks Michael brown ) .
However I don't get his love in with Pugh in particular who was abysmal. The midfield dad's army over ran game after game after game.
The Mansfield left back is the best player I've seen in that position since Meredith of Bradford, I presume he was in team of the year ?
As VF16 said Mansfield were quite powderpuff despite being camped in our half most of the game. Hemmings looking particularly lethargic.
Great day in sunny Nottingham before and after and cos the pub by the station was rammed the old bill directed us to one near the Superbowl, nice beer garden and some decent Mansfield fans in there.
Bizarrely Ricky Millar was in the pub, slightly unprofessional ?

He won’t be here after the summer I assume, and also has a court date coming up.

Yeah yesterday was nice in relation to the fans, vale travelled in decent numbers to say they didn’t really have anything to play for, despite the ridiculously small chance they could have gone down, was in a beer garden with some yesterday, one even got a round of shots in, so that was alright. Not sure where all the talk of bother was coming from. That said, the pub I go in - the railway - is a real ale pub and not that big, if you’re an idiot the ladies behind the bar will just tell you to fuck off.

The left back was Mel Benning, he’s been a tad off in the last month or so, but came back strongly last week with the winner against chesterfield and did well yesterday, he likes to get forward which pleases the home crowd

Yes Adam we have a reputation but the trouble always seems to be known about or a 90th minute goal against causes our cave dwellers to go nuts.
There was 11 of us ranging from 20 to 53 , some shock horror in Lacoste , Paul Smith etc but our sole intention was a good day on the lash and a good game, pity about the latter.
Despite looking mob handed maybe we were welcomed in that boozer and had a good banter with a few of your fans.
Not a hint of aggro all day even when 25 Boro turned up in Nottingham pub after the game.
Port Vale fans in behaving well and actually decent blokes shock !!!

Scenes yesterday when Waterfall thumped one in with what was basically the last meaningful touch of the game.

We could've shut up shop and taken a point when we went down to 10 men with 10 minutes left but we dropped a CM into CB, went from 4-3-3 to 4-2-3, pushed the full backs on a little more and it paid off.

Ollie Palmer continues to impact games when he comes on and was unlucky with a hell of strike, which hit the underside of the bar.

The noise when Waterfall got his last second goal was quite amazing. Going to be a big turnout at Coventry, wouldn't surprise me if we lost both games at the Ricoh and Stanley tbh.

There was a couple of Yeovil fans in pre game who literally looked like they'd just walked off the set of The League of Gentlemen , scary .

I live in a city not a town. I only venture into North Nottinghamshire if work takes me there, or its for our annual defeat. Otherwise best avoided.

Glad to hear that there was no/minimal trouble, although as Vale fans have said many times before it only seems to happen at the big games. So no danger yesterday

I live in Somerset and have to say people from Yeovil are somewhat odd and belong on the Jeremy Kyle show, thank fuck i don't have to go there very often.

Picture banjo plucking inbred a la deliverance....:69:
And getting a blowjob from their granny before she puts her teeth in before breakfast  I've visited some right shitholes in my 57 years but i'd say Yeovil is by far the worst and locals playing the banjo is the least of their problems but at least they keep things in the family

Stags fans....out of interest what is that bizarre black metal structure near the corner flag ? We couldn't fathom it out ( yes the match was that shit we discussed that instead ).
Last time I came was 93/4 season and the ground has changed remarkably.

Is it not storage for the goals etc?

There is an unfinished end covered in advertising hoardings but in the corner is a strange black metal thing, it isn't storage as it is more akin to a huge satellite dish /aerial

PS I'm not mocking because we've had an unfinished stand /breeze block end for 20 years.
I was just curious as it is a weird thing

Twice this season during a match involving FGR a spectator has invaded the pitch.
First time at Coventry when a Coventry fan came on pitch to finger-wag the Coventry captain.
Second time was on Saturday when a Chesterfield fan seemingly wanted to have words with his manager in the dug-out and chose a shortcut across pitch to get there.
What other team can better twice?

Watched the Bostwick sending off a couple of times and can't really work it out. A tug on the attacker?

The foul is for pulling him back, the sending off is for denying a goalscoring opportunity. All looks a bit soft though really.

Sorry but surely the guy deserves a sending off just for that ridiculous beard and slicked back mullet.
I mean at what point do you look in the mirror and say yeah, that looks good?

Boy can you tell Grimsby have had an awful season.

I think he looks rugged yet beautiful , I’ve seen a lot worse on a football field
